About to have this surgery tomorrow. I'm very nervous. Some over people described their vision as permanently changed. Thank you for posting a more positive outlook and perspective. I'm hopeful that surgery will go smoothly.
Thanks matthew! I was nervous before the surgery but had a little anti anxiety medication kindly given before the surgery and I was on cloud 9 lol. If youre being put to sleep just relax and trust the surgeons. After the surgery you wont feel a thing either because you should still have some anesthetic in the area. Youre going to be fine. Get plenty of rest afyer the surgery and take every day as it comes because healing will take a minute lol. My vision hasnt changed at all, it was blurry for a few weeks but eventually gained all vision back!
I am in same situation as yours. Please post your experience after surgery. I will be getting it done after two failed vitroctomi's.
Macula off detachment here. My vision is definitely changed. The distortion will never go away unfortunately. But you do get more used to it. It sucks but things get better

Your presentation was right on. You kept it under ten minutes. Great. We would like to know how you are doing over time. It has been a week since my surgery and the sutures in the eye have finally dissolved or at least they don't bother me anymore. The bubble doesn't seem any smaller to me. And vision is distorted to big shapes only for now. If I can I will let you know how it is in another week it is February 10 / 23. Hope you are doing great. Good information. Thank you.

Thanks for posting your story. Nice to see you went to lifting weights, normal life. I am about 3 weeks post scleral buckle , had no symptoms before. My vision is blurry, still have the gas bubble, swelling and I have a weird yellow filter effect and feel like colors have changed.
Do you know or heard if this is common?

@Anisha Bux hi there! Yes, definitely, I am doing much better. Swelling has gone, yellowish filter is gone too. I kist have some serious post surgical floaters now which hopefully are gone otherwise surgery again in 1 year arghhh..yikess.

Hi anisha that’s for posting this video my wife just went through buckle surgery last week it’s been 9 days now she start to open her eye on 5th day no issue at all but her vision still blurry how long this will take did you get full vision back

I had the same surgery and I had a full blood eye. 5 weeks post op in pain and fully red not as bloody but red. It’s been stressful painful and it’s hard.
Had same surgery 4 days ago. Did they put a gas bubble in your eye? If so how long did it take to dissolve. Did you have to lay face down? Or side. All of the time?
I was operated a little over two weeks ago and had to do it on the rush so I couldn’t choose my doctors and I can’t say that I have a great deal of faith in them although the eye seems like it’s healing, I had to do the buccal surgery. I had an enormous amount of facial bruising even on the opposite side and my operated I was clamped shut for three days. now, after a little over two weeks, the doctor has said that there are no restrictions I can do anything and yet as I don’t have any confidence in him, and I am listening to videos in which they say not to do heavy exercising I am wondering what your opinion is. The face down position was extremely difficult for me, and my sciatica has come back, in a huge away, so I am suffering a lot physically, and want to get back to my exercise class which was making my life better, but I’m afraid to do it too soon. Thanks in advance..

Did the laser surgery cause blurring of vision? I had my scleral buckle 2 weeks ago and planning to get my laser done in another 2 weeks but ive got my Uni started. So cant really miss out on studies. So did the laser affect your vision?
Hope you’re doing fine! I’m one month after scleral buckle surgery. Very similar experience to yours, I was also conscious during mine. I’m still anxious about what comes next and how much worse my eyesight will be. Was your eyesight good soon after the surgery, or did it take some time to get it back to normal? It’s good to watch your video and see that you’re doing just fine and that the surgery went well. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Im still doing really well, i had to have a top up on the laser in my left eye but this wasnt painful at all and took only a few minutes! The eye i had surgery on is still going good! I think it took about 3 weeks untill ny eye opened up fully. In terms of vision i'd say 6 weeks and my eye was fully back to how it was prior to surgery. Vision didn't worsen at all. Dont be afraid everything will be fine! Xx

Hey there… I’m 23 yo, and I have macular serous that caused retina detachment, the doctor recommended the scleral buckle and I’m scared. I wanted to try the vitrectomy instead because it seems less invasive, but because it has been 2/3 years that the retina detachment exists, my chances to recover some vision are doing the scleral buckle. After reading so many reviews of people who felt severe pain, complications after surgery, or their eye simply never became to look what it was before (changed shape, became droopy) makes me wonder if I should really take the risk and go through all the headache and pain for something isn’t guaranteed it will work, besides, can change the way my eye looks forever and make me even more depressed… idk what to do, if I should just go blind of that eye and save myself the pain and uncertainty.
Hi hope you are staying well,I can only comment on my experience of having the buckle and so far I have had no complications no pain no problems at all. My eye isn't a different shape and hasn't changed in its appearance at all. Took some time to heal but it's god bless doing good. Everyone's experience of the surgery is different please remember this. Don't make your decision based on the experience of others because yours will be completely different,if there is a chance to save your eye I would say go for it,yes there maybe be complications but there might not be and there is a risk we do with anything in life. Whatever decision u make stay positive and present focus on today and not tomorrow .Take it day by day with your recovery x

Hi, my husband is going for a Scleral Buckle Surgery this Sat. His Surgeon told him that it is very important to posture the head (after surgery) for at least 15 hours per day for 2 weeks to enable the gas to stay in the right location to expedite healing Can anyone comment on this? How do one posture the head correctly without any discomfort. Thanks

Hello I has this surgery a month ago vision is getting better but my eye has become so small My eye lid covers my vision half way I have to keep lifting it but it just pulls it self straight down did this happen to u and if did how long did it take to resolve?
Hey ,I think it really depends how big the buckle inserted is and the location! The shape of my eye and size was smaller right after the surgery and returned to its size a few months later . It healed over time x

I'm also experiencing flashing. I went back to the doctor and he said no problems. The healing looks great from the surgery. I'm 2 weeks out. Do you still get the flashes?

Hey Olin, my flashes are worse now than prior to surgery but my surgeon has checked over and said it all looks good, just give it time and keep in touch with the doctor about it

I was diagnosed with an old retinal detachment. I have been telling eye doctors for years about my eye issues. Finally found an optometrist who seen there was definitely a problem. He referred me to an ophthalmologist who diagnosed the detachment. He has advised me to get the scleral buckle. He said my vision won’t get better but the surgery will make my eye stronger. I’m not feeling good about this because my retina has been detached for years and now I may have permanent vision loss because of it. It’s a very scary thing to even think about. I’m trying to stay positive but I’m so scared. 😕

I’ll be having surgery next month. The dr told me that he’s done quite a few surgeries with old retina detachments but that didn’t make me feel better🫤

How is it possible to have a detachment for years? If it detaches, vitreous fluid leaks between the retina causing complete blindness. I doubt it was detached for years and not cause blindness. That's not possible
Hi, I went through the same surgery last year. So I was so nearsighted (myopia) in the right eye. Did you have to get your cataracts removed in that eye after the retina surgery?

@@anishabux8507 Thanks for the prayers and wishes.. Am in 2nd week after surgery. Seems to be the worst part (Pain, swelling, face down etc..) is over. Hopefully, can see some blurred images, but not aligned. Eye lids are still drooping. Patiently waiting for coming months as doctor said.
I am in third month after surgery now, and totally disappointed. Vision is partially restored, but foggy, distorted and misaligned (double vision). droopy eye lids, still red eyes.
Hi! I had surgery to attach my retina from my right eye. I had the surgery 2 weeks ago. I am so scared because I am able to open my eye but it still hurts.And I am so sensitive to the light. My question to you is how long does it take to open your eye without pain. I am so worried. Can you please answer my question.
Hey , hope you're well, it will still ache and hurt slightly. If its incredibly painful get it checked for infection x

Hi,i had scelaral buckling surgery on my right eye ,its going to be 5 months,but still often i feel irritation uncomfort in right down part of my eye where more buckle attached.and that area also looking wired redness swelling bump is there.is it normal?and i feel discomfort while seeing light,sun shines and screens, anyone faced the same issues,it ll be okay?
Hi there ❤ I really can't advise but would I would suggest is that you follow up with the hospital/ doctor to ensure you don't have any complications. I didn't experience any discomfort 5 months post surgery . I don't think it should be causing u the symptoms you describe but it's best to get advice from your primary doctor/consultant xxx
I had this same surgery 12 days ago.Right eye is little bit red. I am nervous too. When can I start my work on computer? When can I expect my vision back?
hope your surgery went well! The redness will subside,I think when you're comfortable to work on the computer then u can. Just try not to cause unecessary strain on the eye. It does take time to heal and every recovery is different. Vision usually returns after a few weeks but it depends on how much vision was lost to begin with . Hopefully you will regain back all your vision and there are no issues! 🙏🙏

I had the surgery about 2 weeks ago, my vision prior to the surgery wasn’t bad it was just a bit distorted in my detached eye, as if there was a small area with a ripple in it. Had the surgery done and recovering, that ripple is still there not sure if that’s normal or if it goes away after some time? My follow up check up went well
I think I know what you mean about the ripple thing,I had that also prior to the surgery,it's still present didn't dissapear fully but still visible when Im in brightness or for example if I was to look in the sky or a white wall would notice it more! I have it in the outter corner of my eye x
@@anishabux8507 thank you for the quick reply! Yeah mine is right in the way of my main vision and my detachment was macula on, so my vision acuity wasn’t even that bad prior to surgery, did the ripple reduce/get better after some time?
Also how much did your prescription change, I got lasik done prior to my detachment so I wasn’t wearing glasses but I’m guessing I’ll need a pair for my detached eye, the doctors also said getting a lasik enhancement was an option in 4-6 months

@@Frahman95 hey! The ripple thing got better definitely,it's barely noticeable,only really notice it in direct sunlight! My prescription didn't change at all 🙏
So had my buckle fitted 2 weeks ago and progress has been slow. The one thing that’s really bothering me is the shooting pains from my eye on a night into my head and makes my head sensitive to touch.. bit like a migraine sensation. Doctors think it’s because I have dry eyes, did you experience this hun? Xx

@@anishabux8507 omg thank god someone else felt it! I thought it was just me! It felt like my head was going to pop one night! Just sucks I’m getting that at the end of the two weeks not at the beginning. How long did it last for? I’m living off paracetamols atm 😩 xx
@@Chezxo807umm I think once my vision was a little settled it subsided,make sure you're drinking plenty and definitely the paracetamols ! Once everything is settled u won't notice the buckle and shouldn't feel it either x

I had that operation when I was 25. I am now 37.
I looked on YT last year how they did the operation on any patient, and damn was I tense just imagining that was done to me.
One thing no one talks about is that the week after is so painful you need to relearn how to shit without pushing because if you don't, you'll have the impression your eye will POP out of its socket.
Spending a week laying on my side, while being in pain (my ex was a complete asshole, I got no support from him - my parents cared for me) was quite intense.
12 years after, I am following Claudia Muhlenweg natural vision improvement classes and looking forward to remove the scleral buckle when my myopia drops low enough so my retina won't want to re detach.

I would like to know how long after your eye returned to its normal size, I had surgery two months ago and my eye looks smaller than the other, that makes me feel very insecure.
I think my eye returned to its normal size approx 3 months later . I think it depends on whereabouts the buckle was placed. Mine is top inner corner of my right eye
My eye also looks slightly smaller now, 2 months out but I think over time it will get better
It has been 2 months for me but still my eye looks smaller, I see no improvement between month 1 and 2
Does lifting heavy weight and doing heavy aerobics and sport's bothers you??...like can you do everything that you used to do before you had this detachment in eye....
My doctor told me that i won't be able to ride bike again and play sports....i had traumatic retinal detachment with a giant tear .....have your doctor also made restrictions for you
Hey ,I'm able to do everything,doctors haven't restricted me for anything,working out,lifting weights , going on rides is absolutely fine . Some people advise to refrain from anything that will put pressure on eyes but the surgeons and optometrists have advised me I can continue doing whatever I did before !
Hi dear @anishabux8507 I have a question please try to answer I have done a Scelra buckling 3 months ago till now everything is fine but a mild pain at the back of my eye possible where the buckle is placed from last one month have you experience the same ? I am also taking anti inflammatory drops but not a getting a full recovery can you please suggest if you have a same problem what you have done
Hi! Yes I did get slight pain in the buckle area from time to time, it will settle x also in colder weather the buckle feels a bit stiff x
How long did it take to regain your vision? I'm two weeks out from my scleral buckle surgery and my vision is still very blurry.

Did you also have a lot of floaters post surgery? I have a ton and it's impeding my vision. I'm hoping some of it settles.

I had surgery over 7 days ago and i feel pain and headaches which i have to take medications for to feel better, is that norma? Pain is less but headaches is a little much and constant, did you also experience this?

@@zuhaibahmed7655 you know I'm really happy i can see atleast, i only realise the vision is a little bad when i close my right eye otherwise all normal, my vision is interfered sometimes by some floaters that's all otherwise it's almost back to 70% of the original quality,
And to answer your question, no double vision at all

Hiya hun,I honestly don't refrain myself from anything,I was told lifting is fine! I've had a baby recently so I will get back to the gym as soon as I can,I literally don't Evan think about my eye when I'm lifting weights we have to live our life xx

Hey there, hope you're surgery went as expected! Give it some more time ,these things we cannot anticipate so allow the healing process to continue xx can take a few weeks a few months . It's different for everyone x

Why were you awake for your scleral buckle surgery instead of under general anesthesia?
Because I had had a meal prior to the surgery so they couldn't risk general anaesthetic x

How has your eye healed? Can anyone tell you’ve had surgery done? I had this procedure done just over two weeks ago and feel like my surgeon messed up my eye as I don’t think it’s healing properly
Hiya,my eye is absolutely fine,can't feel anything abnormal,it does take time to heal so u have to be patient
In regards to the appearance of my eye nothing has changed after the surgery,it was smaller in size for a weeks 👌🙏 I'm nearly 3 years post surgery and no issues so far🙏👌🤞

@@zuhaibahmed7655 hey, yes I still experience flashes from time to time but they're not the "worrying" type of flash which indicates more tears. I have yellow bright type flashes due to post vitreous detachment in the corner of my eye. The flashes I got whilst my eye was detached were green and I no longer get.

Hope you're well! I did. Have some blurred vision at the start of my recovery,the healing process is different for everyone. Try not to worry and if it's concerning you get it checked by your surgeon

Having mine in a couple of weeks and scared doesn’t begin to describe how I feel. Can someone please tell me how it feels after? Is it painful? What’s vision like and how long does it get back to ‘normal’ I’m reading mixed reviews!
It's abit achy straight after and a little sore but after 1-2 days the pain subsides ,and then for the remaining few weeks just itchy whilst the stitches heal. vision was blurry and cleared up after maybe 4 weeks

Sorry so many questions! Did you leave the house at all during the 4 weeks or did you stay in to avoid getting stuff in your eyes?
@@Chezxo807aww u can ask me anything xx I remember being careful when washing my hair and kept the eye cap on when washing so shampoo wouldn't go into my eye , I also wore the eye cap to bed for a few weeks with an eye pad untill my eye stopped feeling uncomfortable. Keeping the eye clean is important too with warm water n cotton pad.i also remember resting my eye as much as possible cause it hurt a little whilst watching TV so I watched TV with one eye on many occasions just until my eye felt more comfortable. Let your eye heal n be patient xx u will be fine!
@@Chezxo807 I definitely left the house lol, first 2 weeks I stayed in cause my eye was sensitive to light,after that I just carried on as usual .felt abit wierd wearing glasses n having an eye cap on underneath but I literally got used to it n just let my eye heal slowly.

It seems like I get double vision when I first wake up. I'm two weeks out from scleral buckle surgery. My vision is still blurry and I have a ton of floaters/debris in my eye.
@@olinmoy1386 I am in the same situation as you, I get double vision when I first wake up and it slowly subsides. Quite annoying tbh. Also try focusing in the distance while pointing your finger ahead, do you get double vision? I had my surgery on 9th June, I also have a lot of floater now compared to before surgery. In terms of vision it should stabilise but it won’t be as great as it was before. Mine has become more short sighted
@@zuhaibahmed7655 yes I'm really hoping my vision improves. I understand that it won't be the same as before surgery but it would be nice to see better than I am currently. The floaters are so bad it's also impairing my vision. I'm doing 24 hour water fasts a couple times a week and taking vitamins in hopes of thinning out the floaters.
@@olinmoy1386 what about your double vision? Do you get it when focusing on different objects at different angles? For example if you hold your finger out and look into the distance, do you see double of your finger?
I'd say you're cute Anisha. I justvhad my surgery and silicon oil was used.
About 4 months ago i had surgery in my left eye and laser in my right eye 😂 so this is pretty relatable .... But after surgery after the effects of anesthesia decrease my eye started to hurt and that was because of the iop ..... Worst experience 😂 but i don't gain my vision properly cause iam still a teen so doctor said that iam not going to get 100% of my vision back and my retina is very thin so i have to be careful lol ... I don't know what to say more ... 😂

Are you still -8 in your right eye? Also, did you astigatism change?
Numbers didn't change at all, infact they got abit better lol, i dont think i have an astigmatism in either of my eyes, i can wear the usual contact lenses x

Also would love to know how many weeks after could you wear contacts? And did they feel okay? Or was it painful at first?
I wear contacts now,but I didn't for a few months because I had to get my numbers checked again, give it time u will be able to wear contacts again don't worry x
