  • I haven’t painted a scene like this in Photoshop in a long time (now I think about it) but since I upgraded my computer to something more modern and painting is a lot smoother now I decided to put some time in and finally sort out a nice painting brushes set for PS CC.
    This background scene works as a demo piece showing what I use this brush set for and what you can do with it. The set is meant as a stand-alone thing so you can paint a piece like this using only the brushes from the set. It has some simple basic brushes that are a standard in Photoshop and about 10 brushes of my own devising, made based on my all-time favorite presets for scenery painting. You can download the set from my Gumroad store here:
    Matt’s Photoshop painting brush set:
    gumroad.com/l/FcRSq
    The picture took me about 2 days of work to finish (I painted it on and off at my desk and in cafes) and is based on a photo I took in Kanazawa when we went there with Kana last year. I really liked the narrow streets in the older part of the city and already painted one illustration based on those photos before.
    See the finished illustration here:

    * Photoshop CC

    i think you really are the perfect example for people not needing fancy brushes to do great artwork. i mean what you are doing is pretty basic, but the way you do it is simply amazing

    I am learning so much from your writings, videos and your tutorials, Mateusz. Thank you so much. Especially for making your brushes available for Photoshop. I don't have iPad, so I can't use Procreate. But thankfully, I can use your brushes and try the organic painting style you use for your painting. As you said, the lines don't have to be perfectly straight, it is more organic feeling and is a lot of fun to paint.

    I like that the set is so concise and practical. The biggest problem I have with Kyle Brush is that he has 1000+ brushes and I can never find what I'm looking for!
    Also, have you ever heard of the app Astropad? It lets you use your iPad Pro and Apple Pencil as a second monitor for your computer. Effectively turning your iPad Pro into a Cintiq. I haven't got an iPad yet, but a recommendation from you would help seal the deal!

    • @mattjabbar
      @mattjabbar  5 років тому

      Glad you like it. I have not tried astro pad because I actually prefer painting in Procreate when I do line work or sketches so there is little incentive for me to buy it now :)

    Many apologies my bad apparently when "Sample all layers" is turned on and you have a dark background the color picker is not consistent the brush works fine just gotta make sure u paint on one layer and sample colors with 'current layer' instead

      I've actually rewatched these style vids you have more than 40 times just learning on how to work with procreate. So far I've only completed two on my own. Have them up on my instagram. @josedeolioart
      I've seen clip art but never tried it. The results are pretty good too on that.

    thanks for these, using them now for a personal piece. interesting that you dont use opacity set to pressure for most brushes. For shading, do you never change the opacity of the brush? (with 1-9keys)? or do you just use your shading brush which seems to be a bit less opaque?

    • @mattjabbar
      @mattjabbar  5 років тому +2

      I use opacity on some of them only. These I use for shading and adding texture but as this set is meant to mimic painting with opaque gouache paint most of the brushes for defining shapes of objects are not transparent :) But feel free to modify the presets as you see fit of course! :)

  • @estuary
    @estuary 5 років тому

    The shading brush is super awesome n can achieve amazing effects however for the life of me i can't get it to work when picking a new color thats brighter. even for the main painting brush. so if i paint the wrong color thats it i can't even color pick a nearby brighter color to paint over it and i have to switch over to some hard round brush to paint and shade all over again :-(

    Matt, how do you draw trees? It's something I'd like to incorporate into my work to make then seem more realistic and my trees are pretty basic. Do you have any tips? Thanks :)

    • @mattjabbar
      @mattjabbar  5 років тому +2

      I think about the shape and make them more simple with distance. So the furthest trees are just fuzzy shapes but you can clearly see the leaves on the closest ones. Plus it's easy to divide them to FRONT, TRUNK+BRANCHES, BACK layers :)

    • @AnjaliMallampooty
      @AnjaliMallampooty 5 років тому

      Mateusz Urbanowicz oh okay, thanks! Uhm, I don't really get what you said in the last line, though. Could you please rephrase it? Thanks :)

    • @mattjabbar
      @mattjabbar  5 років тому +2

      I think of trees as objects with three layers - the leaves in front, then trunk and branches and finally the darker leaves in the back. You can divide it into more layers but 3 is enough most of the times.

    Can anyone tell me how to make a straight line in any direction in photoshop the easiest way because i am having a hard time figuring it????😭😭😭😭😭😭

    • @barbara9631
      @barbara9631 3 роки тому

      it's a bit late repsonse but in case you're still struggling you can press your brush in one point and then while holding shift press in another point and that creates a staight line connecting these two points but it gets a bit tricky because sometimes the line is very thin or not visible at all (that's because of your brushe's flow and opacity settings) so what I usually do is create a new layer, draw a straight line while holding shift (you can do that in only 4 directions in 90 degrees angle) and then I move it and rotate it to my liking. Or you could use a pen tool but that's another story. Hope that helps.
