Jeff Fisher calling Nick Foles to release him was the best thing ever to happen to Nick Foles and Jared Goff not knowing where the sun rises or sets was probably the main reason he was traded to Detroit.
My fear as a lions fan is that Goff is going to play just well enough for us to not draft a quarterback next year. If he's great that's fine. If he sucks that's fine. It's that middle ground that could derail our rebuild.

The first season in LA happened to be Jeff Fisher's last, and it was an exceptionally brutal one.
Who knew that a 30 year old coach from Washington would become the leader of the new era in Los Angeles.
Jeff Fisher is not 'Los Angeles' enough. The success of many of LA's sports teams (Lakers, Dodgers, UCLA, USC chiefly) means that you have to win a lot and often in order to be noticed in LA. 4-12 will absolutely never cut it. Few years later and the Rams are in title contention whilst being Super Bowl Champs. The Rams need to be a dynasty and they sure can be.

It shows just how incompetent most of the coaches are in the league. The TV would have you believe these are some kind of extraordinarily smart mtfs but the reality is theyre just well networked within the NFL circles.

@airborne jay......I think it also has to do with a changing of the guard from old school coaches like Fischer to modern coaches like mcvay. Fischer came up in the old school NFL as both player and coach. The old school approach doesn't work anymore in the league.

Jeff Fisher is for sure a case study in being out of touch, but to blame all of this season on him. The whole team underpreformed badly with the players they had. He deserved to get fired after the start they had, but please don't give me with Todd Gurley, Arron Donald, a solid Jarod Goff, and a solid offensive line, that team shouldn't have gone 11-5 that year.
That just shows how important a good coaching staff is to winning in the nfl. That's a major reason teams like Detroit have been bad for so many seasons. You need a strong front office as well.

2016 was a major letdown of a season, and Fisher’s “7-9” speech was definitely meme worthy. But he was NO WHERE near as bad as his predecessors, who went 15-65 over a FIVE YEAR SPAN. Jeff Fisher’s 7-9 teams were a welcome improvement after suffering through Linehan and Spagnuolo
People dump on Fisher a lot and rightfully so given how painfully mediocre he was as a coach, but yeah, it's really easy to forget just how putrid the Rams were before he showed up. That stretch from 2007-2009 might be the single worst 3 year stretch for any team in NFL history and they followed that up with a 2-14 season before Fisher showed up.
He took them from consistently terrible to consistently mediocre which isn't great, but nowhere near as bad as people have made it.

@smug tomato.....as a lions fan I'd challenge you for worst record from 2001-2009. Pretty sure we own the record for fewest victories over a ten year span.
@@stevep2380 The only team that might rival you are the Browns from 2010-2019. But I have no inclination to actually go back and count how many wins they had over that stretch.
The reason I specified a three year stretch is because the Rams had three consecutive seasons in which they went 3-13, 2-14, and 1-15. That is impressively terrible and only the 2015-2017 Browns come anywhere near that level of sheer ineptitude over such a span. The Rams managed to get worse for 2 straight years after having about as terrible a season as a team can reasonably have.

Rules are rules. If you're a leader anywhere, sometimes you have to make an example of a guy. Everyone else falls in line after that. Without repercussions, people will just do what they want, and pretty soon you as a leader will have no control, because they know you won't do anything.
