  • Wantan noodles served with Char Siew (barbecue pork), pickled green chillies and dumplings. A delicious plate of noodles! The wantans and its soup contribute further to this delectable noodles.
    www.nyonyacook...
    My great grandma sold noodles to make ends meet ever since she was a young lady. She had been doing just that for almost half a century before she retired! Perhaps that is why, even after all these years, we still have this love for noodles.
    In Hong Kong, Wantan noodles are very different from those sold in Malaysia. There are two different types but the more common of the two is not the wantan soup noodles but the dry version known as “kon loh mee”. Directly translated, it basically means dry mix noodles.
    The springy egg noodles go perfectly well with the delicious barbecued Char Siu pork and the sweet sourish pickled green chillies. This dish is anything but plain! I love how the sweetness of the barbecued pork goes well with the sourness of the pickled chillies.
    Wantan noodles can also be served together with the chicken from the Hainanese Chicken Rice recipe. If you prepare more servings, just increase the amount of ingredients accordingly.

    Wow thanks for making these videos. They're all really high quality. I don't get the chance to eat dishes like these often because I live in China but I'm glad that I can finally make comfort food. Your channel is definitely a game changer in my mission to stuff my face with food.

    I cooked this dish and I was in heaven, my friend happened to visit and he too loved it. My only regret is that I hadn't prepared more. My friend has asked when I will cook it again. I am not telling him But!, at least I have a glorious dish that I can show off when we next have a big family get together, Nyonya I love you and your cooking keep it up.

    Hi, you can keep your fresh Wantan noodle in freezer and it can keep for at least 3 months !! Nowadays we try not to boil water to cook the veggie instead add in 1 -2 spoons of water with the veggie, cover it and let it cook for 1-3 mins. Done.

    I'm so hungry jus by watching this now. So easy. I saw egg noodles sold here in the supermarket bt not sure if it taste like the authentic wanton noodles..
    Grace, what is tat sweet sauce? I have a bottle here named sweet sauce too and it's use for dipping popiah. Can I use tat?

    • @nyonyacooking
      @nyonyacooking  10 років тому

      Try it out!! You will never how it taste until you've tried it :P Even if the egg noodles are not authentic, it should taste close enough.
      That sweet sauce is not the one used for dipping popiah but it's called as Kicap Manis. It's like oyster sauce but much thicker and darker in colour. Tastes sweet of course. Hehe..

    Thanks Grace. Have one question though. I bought a bottle of Kecap but the label says Sweet Soy Sauce and it also says Kecap Manis and your recipe calls for dark soy sauce. So is there a difference between Dark Soy sauce and Kecap Manis. I don't seem to be able to find the non-sweet Dark Soy Sauce. Is that just ordinary soy sauce and reduce sodium soy sauce, sometimes labeled Light Soy Sauce? Confused in the US.

    If your target viewers are non asian, I guess this recipe is ok. For asians, you probably left out 1 small detail (maybe due to space and equipment constrains) and that's to "wash" the noodles. How about ayam buah keluak for the next recipe? That ought to blow the minds of non asian viewers :P
