    For people who can’t find an enphase local store, and our electrically minded themselves and phase will allow them to go through their certification program, which is all online and then they will allow you to buy the product directly from them and have you install it. How are you install? It is up to you as in, and then get the electrical inspection or higher electrician to install it.
    I got approved for this route, but ended up just buying a gas generator for the few hours a year that I need it when the power goes out.

    @Matt, you really need to look into the Western Australia grid.
    The grid operator has been DELIBERATELY pulling down long distance power distribution lines, and DELIBERATELY establishing micro grids across the state.
    In some cases they are giving farmers solar systems as it is cheaper for the grid to give this than to support the distribution infrastructure. (FYI: my company supplies the micro grid controllers)

      Yes indeed. I recently read an article talking about the Aus energy supplier building microgrids instead where power line runs would exceed whatever km

      @TinkerTry Oh, thanks for reply. I keep Matt "spammed" lol on Patreon with Aussie updates. He's not wrong with how far Aus is along the curve. The solar stats are crazy. And the state of South Aus are so far ahead of everyone else here in energy mix.

    I’ve learned so much over the past year on the different brands and types of solar systems out there. I would love to share my insights amazed on the markups in this market and finding UA-camrs who have done it themselves and websites to help you design your own solar system

    At the cost of the solar roof, many people in that income bracket, especially those who aren’t doing the math to figure out penny, by penny, how much is going to cost them they just want to click the mouse place the order and pay the check. They don’t want to be a project champion or the project manager, don’t want to be calling and following up and scheduling and persuading people.

      I'm just glad m Tesla Project Advisor out of Dalton UT did a great job advocating for me internally, but I do hope Tesla gets to the point where this can happen with less follow-up. In the end, it really was a pretty turn-key experience during a period of extra stress (moving, new job, health stuff, etc).

    51:37 "I would question the thinking of anybody who said I don't want save some money" I use that all the time regarding EVs. Many people have the mindset if they're not running on 100% renewables, they're not worth it. I would say if I could cut your bills by 75%, would you say it's not worth it unless you could cut them by 100%?

    I live in SW CT, and it's not actually possible to hate Eversource more than literally every one of their customers does. They're the reason I just replaced my gas furnace with another gas one (I can't do solar currently for reasons).

    32:50 Funny story like Paul. When I had my solar installed, the installer just left it on after testing it. When the inspector came a few weeks later to inspect it. He said it wasn't supposed to be on until he inspected it. We both shrugged our shoulders, oh well. Had a few extra weeks of solar energy.

      Thanks for sharing that story Scott, that there is some latitude and forgiveness out there. I was warned to be cautious until PTO since my utility might actually charge me for the power I was exporting, or something along those lines. The warnings were inconsistent, and sounded odd. In the end, the new bidirectional meter and billing eventually worked out just fine, there was one month with no bill, then another that was tough to figure out, but all is normal after all that.

    Tesla Virtual Power Plant paid out $2500 for me in SW CT last year and brings my payback for my system (14.4kW solar panels & 3 Powerwalls) to less than 5 years and NPV positive with a 10% WACC after year 7. This includes the federal tax benefit. VPP is a game changer in my opinion.

    • @TinkerTry
      @TinkerTry 2 місяці тому

      I certainly do hope I get accepted, but it's anything but certain, especially since the VPP program apparently ended Dec 31 2023 here in Connecticut. I should be eligible since I was installed in 2023 and made my request in 2023, but there's still hold-ups and it's ultimately their discretion whether I get in or not.

    1. If you're buying and selling "credits" to the grid, then you're not off grid.
    2. Manufacturing solar panels and batteries, along with shipping, are not good for the environment, so to get solar because of climate change is like cleaning your hands with dirt to get clean.

    • @jmacd8817
      @jmacd8817 2 місяці тому

      EVERYTHING requires manufacturing and transportation, so that is a completely misguided argument. The real benefits of solar and others are the on-going, day to day reduction in emissions. Zero CO2 is being emitted during operations, unlike fossil fuels, which require mining/drilling, transportation, refining, and further transportation, PLUS the day to day CO2 emissions.
      Arguments like yours are 100% bad faith.

      3. It makes financial sense in my country, I am not so worried about the environment, I still use a wood heater in winter for example.
