My other tip to add: Don’t get overwhelmed by library books. If you are like me, your library isn’t open, and you are limited to audio and e-books only. I add a ton to my hold list, and without fail, every book arrives at the same time. Be willing to let them go and get back on the list. It’s impossible to plan no matter how hard you try. Sometimes I will be 400th in line, and other times I will be 4th in line, and both books will arrive in the middle of my 700 page book that I’m currently reading. It got to the point that I would quit every book out of frustration. Read more by forcing less on yourself, I guess is what I’m trying to say. It took me a long time to find the balance with online check-outs. Don’t feel obligated to finish them just because you have them. And don’t be afraid to DNF a book you aren’t enjoying. ❤️
I can so relate - no matter how I time things, all my interlibrary loans or ebooks I've been on the waiting list for always come in clusters, usually during a week I know will be super busy. I am also guilty of bringing home too many library books. I did that a lot this summer when our library reopened to let patrons in to see the shelves again. It was totally an emotional comfort trick for me, but then I'd get stressed trying to finish everything. Now the library is closed and having to call and request a book by pick up has helped keep me in check, although I do miss going to the library.
Oh my goodness! Yes. I’m guilty of doing to myself when I go in-person. Funny, enough, 3 loans all just arrived at the same time. Lol I’m being good and rejecting the loan so someone else can actually enjoy it. I’ll just get back in line.
@@samanthaaiello my e-book lending library has this great system. If you come up next on the waiting list and you aren't ready for the book, you can request they skip over you for an option of different weeks, but you don't lose your place in line. Say you tell them you want it after two weeks, or three, or four - when the book is returned to the system after that time, they offer it to you again.

Good morning from Florida, and thank you for posting this, it was very enjoyable and helpful! Not sure if you will even see this comment, as I see this video was posted 3 years ago, but wanted you to know that all of your tips made so much sense. I have been out of graduate school many years, and now retired, I enjoy reading as much as I can. I have been consuming a lot of non-fiction books on an e-reader/digital note-taker, which I thoroughly enjoy, but would like to break away to a good fiction book. My main interest in fiction is the horror genre, like Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and others. My wife read a couple of Matt Haig books, which she loved, and I will eventually like to read that author as well. Reading should always be fun, not a chore (as I felt it often was when I was in school), and now for me, it is ONLY fun and enjoyable. I have yet to try audio books, but one day may give that a try as well. Thank you again, and I hope you have a wonderful day! 📚📚

I use Audible in the car driving to work related events which is so much fun! Then I read before bed-I try to set a goa of 50 pages to read and before you know it I’m there. I also typically read two books at a time; one audiobook and a physical book. I agree, reading is so much fun!! I joined your Discord group and I love it, everyone is so kind and helpful 💕 i never knew a platform like that existed until I saw your channel 🙌🏻 amazing 🤩

It has definitely made an impact on my reading! Also, I love your channel and also the music that you use in your videos. Do you have a Spotify that you share? publicly?
This is a great video! Every single tip is the same as those I tell my ELA students at the beginning of each school year. We do "book talks" in the classroom, which is like BookTube. Kids can share about a book they just finished reading for a minute or two, either recommending it to us or not recommending it. For middle school and high school students, I also encourage them to find some BookTube channels they like. The only tip missing from your video that I also tell my students is to prepare for "reading emergencies." Those small pockets of time here and there throughout your day when you have to wait for something. If you always have a book with you, in your bag, in the car, an audiobook or ebook on your phone, whatever, then you can pull out your book or pop in your ear buds and get a few minutes of reading in. To help them see how much reading time they can glean from these moments, I have them keep a record of one full day in their life, noting how many minutes they spent waiting and what they were waiting for. Many of the students were surprised that by the end of the day they had usually close to an hour or more of time.
I been wanting to read more but sometimes I feel obligated to read more. But I been researching and most people said read what you are interested in. I agree with the booktube tip. Yes, I was able to find books pretty easily on my own, prior to watching Booktube, BUT my selections have changed so much SINCE starting to watch Booktube. Because of you and Gabby, from Gabbyreads, I have read a couple thrillers, some middle grade, and a few other genres that I would have never really been interested in. And now, my daughter and I are part of your book club, which is also something I would have never done without Booktube. ❤❤

I was an Overdrive power user for years and loved it, easily reading 50-60 books a year via kindle alone. But ... I moved. My local library doesn’t have access to the digital consortium, and while I have a reciprocal card at a larger library that DOES have access, they won’t allow me to use it. Covid has made access to physical library books a challenge as well. Ugh... It’s discouraging and I’ve found myself reading less than ever in my life. I have certainly taken the opportunity to read/reread from my own shelves, but that has its limits. Living rural has many charms but access to reading material is not one of them!
I cannot thank you enough for this wonderful video it is soo helpful.......and yess last time u said that it is nice to receive a comment from me....and OMG ! like literally u made my day that time..i was so overwhelmed by it.......tysm... 😘😘😘
Nice tips. Btw my rule is to read 10% of a book a day, in that way I can finish a book in 10 days and 3 books a month. And also it is not too much of a burden. 🙏
Thank you for this video! I am trying to seriously up my reading game this year. I have always wondered how people are able to wipe out several books in a month let alone a week. I am a slow reader. In accepting that I do believe I can still up my book count. After seeing your video I am doing all the things, so I should be on my A game to do some serious damage to my physical tbr, which is shameful. The only hurdle I have is DNF'ing. It's like my arch nemesis!
Just stumbled upon your channel yesterday, and I think I’ve already watched 10 of your videos. Are you from TN? I live in Nashville, born and raised, and I feel like I rarely come across youtubers from here. I just got back into reading at the beginning of this year, I’m currently reading goblet of fire for my first read of the Harry Potter series ever! I got out of reading for fun around middle school, and I’m now in college and I’m so thankful I’m getting back into it because I missed the feeling of getting lost in a great book. Definitely subscribing now!
My number one tip - never go anywhere without a book. You can fill all those little lost bits of your day with a few pages of reading - waiting in line for a coffee or food take out, in the waiting room of an appt., while walking (look up if you're crossing a road!), while sitting in the car while your hubby runs errands. Audio books don't work for me unless I'm on a long drive and of course I'm not traveling these days. I've tried audio books at home and I end up either forgetting to listen, or I get caught up in the story and stop working. And while Booktube is one of my favorite places to hang out, I do sometimes realize I could have done a lot of reading in that same time. It's hard to choose sometimes. Probably the main reason I can read as much as I do these days is that I watch almost no television.
I love this! Love that you said, "read what brings you joy." Seriously wish everyone would adopt this mindset. So stupid question, what are reading glass sprints? Being seeing this a lot and don't know what it is.
oh!! Great question! You put a time on a timer (like 20 minutes) and then read as much as you can during that 20 minuets. We do reading sprints on my bookclub discord a bunch and there are lots of book youtube channels that do live reading sprints! They actually really help me focus!
Yes, scribd does limit popular books. But I still keep it Bc even 3-4 (they don't tell you an actual number even if you ask, ugh) popular books for 9.99 seems like a good deal.
Thanks so much for this Video! Great advices, especially the point about reading what we really like to read about!! I fell in love with your channel, thanks!
I never use credit or debit cards online so I use audiobooks books called rul library on UA-cam and ebooks on UA-cam and my ebooks on my Libby appt to my apple book appt.
I never read because I’m so bad at picking books for myself but I LOVE reading. The last book I read was like the selection series. I think I’m gonna start reading again. I’m going to read all of the Harry Potter books for the first time. They are free on kindle right now! And everyone should like Disney movies. If you don’t. I’m looking at you sideways lol. Where is your innner child ?! What happened to you ?!!! who hurt you !!
I wrote a book last year and my hero in that book is called, Lexi Moore. Maybe I was thinking of you when I thought of her name. Haha It just felt right to me. She's a treasure hunter who got betrayed by her fiancé. It's like Indiana Jones meets National Treasure. Idk if I'm publishing that one but it was super fun to write. :)

Covid has made access to physical library books a challenge as well. Ugh... It’s discouraging and I’ve found myself reading less than ever in my life. I have certainly taken the opportunity to read/reread from my own shelves, but that has its limits. Living rural has many charms but access to reading material is not one of them!
These tips were great. Thank you for such great ideas. 📚
This was actually very helpful, thank you Lexi 👍
z library is a great option to!! You can download books as PDF files and I believe you can get audiobooks as well.
I cannot thank you enough for this wonderful video it is soo helpful.......and yess last time u said that it is nice to receive a comment from me....and OMG ! like literally u made my day that time..i was so overwhelmed by it.......tysm... 😘😘😘
you are awsome :) I'm making a marathon on your videos
Awww thank you!
Lovely video❤️✨
Yay for buddy read friendships! 🤗😃🥰
thank you!
Hunh I never thought to give audiobooks a try, I thought audiobooks weren’t really reading
Not glass and been... goodness
oh!! Great question! You put a time on a timer (like 20 minutes) and then read as much as you can during that 20 minuets. We do reading sprints on my bookclub discord a bunch and there are lots of book youtube channels that do live reading sprints! They actually really help me focus!
@@alexandraroselyn thank you. I like this idea. I'm gonna try it.
Libby gives me life
Yes, scribd does limit popular books.
Omg thank you!!!❤️❤️❤️
You’re welcome!
Thank you very much!!!
Keep up the great work :)
Love these tips!!
I love your videos!!! Where do you get your beautiful coffee mugs?
Excellent tips! 😁

Thanks Scully!!

You Give me full on Gretchen Wiener from Mean Girls vibes in the best possible way 😍😍😍
We love Libby in this house 🤗
Thank you! ❤🖤💜
I never use credit or debit cards online so I use audiobooks books called rul library on UA-cam and ebooks on UA-cam and my ebooks on my Libby appt to my apple book appt.
Not me watching this instead of reading LOL
3:49 OMG I laughed so hard that I had to pause the video 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
I never read because I’m so bad at picking books for myself but I LOVE reading. The last book I read was like the selection series. I think I’m gonna start reading again. I’m going to read all of the Harry Potter books for the first time. They are free on kindle right now!
And everyone should like Disney movies. If you don’t. I’m looking at you sideways lol. Where is your innner child ?! What happened to you ?!!! who hurt you !!
I hope everyone has an amazing day! 😃
Omg you named a character after me?!?!?? I’m honored🥺🥺🥺❤️❤️❤️
We just finished the 24 hour reading challenge, what a rush! Happy Wednesday :~)
Yessssss Lexi impart your wisdom on me
