My husband got laid off in April after working for Amazon for 10 years. He gave his heart and soul for this company. It's been a very rough ride for us. Companies like these can easily throw few millions to protect jobs. But the first thing they do is throw them out!! That’s the first cost cutting measure according to management gurus.. seriously ?? Don’t you have any other cost cutting methods out there which can be on top of your list?

I work for Amazon 😢same thing happen to my friend she got fired. Her hand got hurt and took some days off while she was trying to get a time off with no payment of course, Human Resources took her unpaid hours if these hours go to 0 you are fired so they just fired her without letting her get the time she needed to heal herself after this I do not give a damn about this company.

My son receives book from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library until he is 5years old. He is not yet 5 but started reading on his own. I think Dolly’s vision for sending kids free book every month has definitely have an impact in my son’s learning to read and love for books.

US Govt collect trillions of dollars of taxes every year, why can't they do all of these things. Also free healthcare for everyone will cost more than entire US govt budget.
The point is how do you do that efficiently. You make it sound like putting all of the mechanisms in place to end world hunger is an easy thing to do. How do you end it? How do you create possibilities for people so that they become capable of feeding themselves? How do you do that on a global scale? Nobody is forced to work for Amazon. The average pay for a warehouse worker or order filler at Amazon is $16 an hour. That's competitive with other companies.

many are saying he should pay his workers at the warehouses more money or maybe even twice their current pay. he could but it would disrupt the industry. it would force other competing companies to increase the pay of their workers. when I worked for Amazon several years ago @ $13.5/hr, I got an increase to $15/hr that same year. shortly thereafter, the pay rate for many other warehouse positions at other companies also increased to that range.
....keep in mind that these are non-degree labor positions that normally pay low wages across the industry. when one giant company increases the pay of their workers, all other companies usually follow and offer an increase to compete so that they can keep their personnel from quiting.
Ok, that’s great of him but in most cases charity organizations actually spent most of the money on themselves and little spent on the real people everything was meant for….. I think he was right when he said finding the right way to spend the money on those that actually need it is a serious challenge.

Wow if someone gave me money like that to start a charity, I would start an agency that helps people when family members or friends die. It is so hard to navigate the bureaucracy of death and when you are grieving is no time to learn about it. I lost my dad to covid and had no idea what to do as his survivor and wished that there was someone I could have asked. Anyway, it's a good idea and maybe someone will at least take that idea and run with it.

Giving your wealth away to others helps you stay present with your family. You aren't thinking about inheritance laws etc. and can focus on maximising you and your kids lives and ability to self sustain themselves in their own way.
Giving $100 million to a multi-millionaire is a new kind of philanthropy, which of course he'll take a nice tax deduction for.
Better yet, give $50,000 to 2,000 random people in need!
Am I the only one thinking he's doing this to get back into good graces with the public in general? I haven't used AMAZON but once or twice and that was years ago. I haven't had the "NEED" for it as I try to shop locally & use my web browser to shop competitively, online. Am I the only one?
Yes, Amazon, particularly over the pandemic raked in absurd amounts of money. Literally hundreds of billions of dollars.
I scaled back on my use of Amazon years' ago but unfortunately sometimes they are the only one that has a particular product, such as the aftermarket keyboard for my Apple Mac desktop.
I use EBAY and Amazon to get stuff I can't buy locally, items that are cheaper , phone accessories, out of market items such as an old remote, parts for a blender, ect....
Maybe 3 times a year at most

It's some kind of scam, it always is with these types. They never do anything for the good of others. If they did think that way, they wouldn't be as wealthy as they are.
Also haven't ordered from them in a while, there's probably not nearly enough of us for Amazon to even notice though

Please, that already happened ...that's not appropriate. We should be making $40 per hour..i thought UPS and Fed Ex made that.....We are the ones who get the work out quickly and effectively 362 days a year. Off Xmas, Thanksgiving, New Years...

@@gerald5175 that sucks.. I knew Ups drivers who made good money years ago, I thought Fed ex were the same.....Amazon is $19 starting but you get more 1st 3 years up to $22 hr - regular workers. However we get OT which helps but for what we do, but we should get more.

This is just stupid. And they are stupid for doing it. Dolly is a self-made multi-millionaire to the tune of at least 350 MILLION. She owns lucrative businesses and wants for nothing. To give her 100 million, even for charitable causes, is a waste. There are SO MANY other ways they could have provided massive benefit to so many people with that kind of donation. I'm talking about direct benefits, not something passed along to some conglomerate "charitable" organization that just pisses it away. Imagine putting that 100 million into a free detox and "get clean" center in CA. Or a place that specializes in providing REAL treatment for fentanyl addictions (and not just a con businesses trying to grift on a national epidemic of misery by conning people with hugely inflated rates), etc, etc.
Gives me hope we have ppl like Belz and even his ex wife who are so generous.
