BMAC, Let me just say, every video of yours regarding the mk4/a4 vw/audi has been one of ,if not like in most cases, the best video on YT for that specific job or task. And the intro beat is also one of my faves in all of YT. Thank you from a 'Yankee born and raised in the south' i guess is how a lad like you may describe me lol. I have my 04 gti 1.8t next to me and i am about 2-3 more tasks away from trying to crank it up. She has been sitting for, damn first time im being honest about this even to myself lol, 6-7 years after overheating due to my dumb ass not flushing the coolant loop of air. Worked on it for like 2 weeks back then before grabbing another set of wheels. The past 2 months, been working on it at least 5 days a week. Worst thing, the Gutter Trim - Rear Roof Moulding Right, was missing the whole time and water ended up getting into the cab. Besides a decent bit of mildew on, well almost everything, some surface rust on some metal mounting brackets under the dashboard. No rusted cables or connectors so electrical is still looking good. So interior trim had to come out, only putting front seats back in so i can try to crank and not have the airbag system flip out on me. Had some reasons to get my ass in gear and start working on the GTi, ford exploder i bought from a fam member failed to inform me that not only was the u-join and slip yoke in a major relationship breakdown and within 20 miles, shit got physical between them two and one thing led to another, and the yoke lost a ring... U joint was just too much of a thicc boi and busted the yoke up like, well, we cant make them jokes about women of a certain race having intercourse with a man from another certain race, while saying the actual races of those two individuals, without getting called racist by ppl that cant tell the diff between racism and the use of a humorous harmless stereotype. After i was able to get a new yoke and u joint, them two seemed to like each other much better. Sucks that within 200 more miles, the trans locked completely... So with that being the case, said fuck it, the VW is coming back to life, and i knew exactly which of my subs i had to go to. Might throw together a vid of the journey, could be interesting or just another fun project along with documenting the transformation. Ill link it in a comment if i ever end up doing so. Don't expect a watch at all, just wanted to say thanks and share a story while procrastinating just a bit before getting my ass back to work. Already replaced fuel pump, MAF, Sparky's, ignition coils, crank sensor. Still Got crankcase breather entire line to replace, upgrading the coolant flange and hoses in that same area, along with replacing some other vacuum hoses that have started to show some rot. Had a broken headlight so figured i would take off the bumper for a bit more access angles when working on the two other jobs listed. Want to get cranked at least before or on the 4th or July. Like i said, im a Redneck Yankee with a major in Windows/Networking nerd skills, minor in car repair with Haynes books lol, and overall tinker-er/random project builder. So we like to play with pretty decent boom boom fireworks down here in the south. Yall take care now ya hear, and remember, "things just ain't the same for gangstas, times is changing..."
Going junkyarding tomorrow, video was very helpful in refreshing my memory as to what’s needed to remove a Mk4 bumper. It’s been a minute since I worked at the dealership
I just got into a tear in accident today and this video really helps me out. Gladly I’ll only have to replace the bumper and hood. Excellent video mate 👍🏻
thank you!!! I had to remove my bumper on my 2006 Golf so i could sand and paint it. had no idea how to do it until I found this. looks like its the same setup as the 2004. thanks again!
Hey thanks for the video. I know it’s been years since this was uploaded but I’m having a hard time clipping the bumper back on the sides. It doesn’t seem to fit in, especially the last part closest to the wheels. Any tips ? Cheers
Great vid but I'm stuck on the part where the bumper grilles are to be removed. I have the hella micro de fogs in them. Can't seem to get them out. Any advice? I'm worried I'm going to break a clip
Just remember guys, as one removes the grill, there are 2 plastic clip bolts located immediately above the vw badge on either side, and they need to be removed before the grill is prised loose or they will certainly break. P's any ideas beyond wd 40 for removing rusted bolts please. Many thanks.
great great video...thanks mate! last night I release the e brake then I put my gti on neutral...dumb mistake of me lol! the car went forward and It hit the parking bar and the whole bumper practically came off, after seeing this video I can tell...that poor bumper is missing a lot of screws
Hi, at first i want to thank you for the videos with removing parts of vw golf mk4. But i have question about bumpers. How can i safe remove the "small plastic bumpers" on the bumper? In this car they are in colour of the car, but on others cars, they are black. Do you know what i mean? Also have question how to remove (safe remove - i dont want to break it) the stock front lip under bumper.. Thank you for reply and have a nice day !
well I'm working on my second MKIV automatic and I bought a super duper air intake but it requires the removal of the whole front bumper and I'm really not feeling it on the California weather is 96 degrees here right now I'm on the shade but it took me until now to see I need to remove those screws off in order to remove the bumper cause it needs to be removed in order to fit the air filter elbow of the intake
OMG 2 minutes to take the grille and bumper off, 20+ mins ferking about trying to get the damn grille clip/pin back together. Ended up using an M3 screw and nyloc nut.
8 years later still useful and informative, appreciate it!
I am literally building my car off your tutorials, I really appreciate you taking the time to make these videos.
It's nice to be shown the right way to work on a rusty car, outside, in the cold. 👍
I have a garage but unfortunately I have an infinite amount of crap piled up inside so I work on my rusty car , outside , in the cold. lol 👍😎
