Thanks for your tip re Focus Check...just bought the Fuji X-T3 and still feeling my way around it and you're right, having Focus Check on is a bit of a nuisance so thanks again...p.s..really enjoying your vlog...cheers from Down Under...thats Australia, not my back side..😃👍😎
Just got the TTArtisan 50mm f1.2 for my first go at manual focus. I think I'm in love with it - manual focus, that is, and it seems straightforward using these tips at least on the 1.2, even in low indoor lighting. The lens is cool too but doesn't quite seem to focus to infinity on my X-T2. Got a 35mm f0.95 Risespray en route too. Thanks for the video!
Thank Mate, Your so far in front of me in sorting out those annoying concerns - this is why I look forward to your next demystifying episode. Also in agree with Paul M's comments - Peaking miss's.. Cheerz fum Oz. ;^D
A thing about these fast lenses is your scene can appear brighter than reality more often than with other lenses. It makes you aware of how the camera is processing your image. If you left your iso at 400 and your shutter speed at 60th, the odds are much higher your screen will be blown out till you shut some settings down. You might need a neutral density filter. Maybe what I really trying to say is that your camera is applying gain to the image. All the time.
Wow!!!! That is the video that I need. It is very useful. I have a lots of old lens and adaptor rings to Fuji xt3. Last weekend I tested Nikon 200-500mm f5.6 with TC 1.4x using focus peaking method . It works perfectly. After I watched your video, I want to retest this funny combo using the focus zoom option. You always surprise me. Since one year I try to find second hand a Mitakon II 35 mm f0.95 but nobody wants to sell one. :)) too good to sell it! I will buy a new one sooner. I am really really waiting for the video about it.
Hi Pal, I learn a lot from you about Fujifilm camera. I just got a used X-T20 body, only to work with my lots of Nikon lens. It must be manual focus, I know. I will use peaking method mainly. However, I kind of remember a VERY advanced manual focus assist that I can see BOTH normal and a "small" zoomed-in images overlaid in the viewfinder, where the zoomed-in image is at the far right hand side. This is extremely useful because I can keep my awareness of the whole images when I do focus checking REAL TIME. But I cannot find it in your videos or any resources on web. Would you please check that? And just to mention that Lumix does have this feature. Thanks, Felix Chen
Question for the community. I just bought the TTartisans 23mm, f1.4 with an X-T2. I've already made the settings to shoot without Lens. Works fine. I tought I could still use Auto ISO with a manuel lens, but I'm having no luck. In auto ISO, camera locks into the highest ISO number. Auto level does not change with changing light. So do I have to always manually adjust the ISO with the dial with a manual lens?
Quick question: I shoot macro with Laowa 65mm 2x macro. Can I add a macro ring on top as the lens is manual? Would this system (manual focus) still work?
Thanks Paul! Yeah, I've been switching back and forth between the two. I kinda grew up on split image (old Yashica camera) and am used to that. But I must say that focus peaking is starting to grown on me.... slowly, but it's there.
@@hand-heldblender8107 Yeah, I really do miss my Yashica camera. It was actually my dad's camera. He died and it was left to me.... then stolen from my apartment in Santa Monica. :-( Oh well, at least I have the XT3!
when you turn the focus ring and it magnifies, is is the strongest magnification? I have heard you have to have camera set on Raw and Jpeg to get this highest magnification, and I shoot only RAW. Also if you have to have jpeg in addition to raw, do you need sequential settings for the cards?
@@pal2tech I willing to buy a 35mil for my new fuji coming and I'm very attracted by the mitakon, Is it still a good choice for wedding ? or event photography ? I'v never tested the focus peaking system on fuji. I know the safest choice is the autofocus system, but a lot a ppl using manual focus for streetphoto, sport, and even wildlife ;
Thank you!! You expectedly answered the auto zoom in question i had. I'm new to Fuiji with an XT30 (which hI love) and am trying my hand at manual but really could not figure out why it kept zooming in. Now I understand. Thanks again.
Here's something I'd like to know before buying a manual lens: If the lens does not communicate with the camera in any way, camera does not know what apperture you are using. In this case, if your exposure is set to auto, does the camera still correctly expose the image or do you have to set the exposure manually?
X-T5 bug. On the X-T5, Manual focus peaking no longer works as you describe. When you half press the shutter on the X-T2, X-T3 and X-T4 the focus peaking highlights are disabled (as you say), allowing you to see a normal/clear view to recompose. However, with half pressed shutter on the X-T5 they are not disabled (and in low light they 'shimmer' dreadfully!). PLEASE FUJI, FIX THIS BUG!!!
Great video and excellent timing because today I've been toying with my XT3 and the Zuiko 50 mm f/1.4 manual lens from my old Olympus OM-2n. I'm going to apply all your tips!!

An alternative are the “TAAB Lens Focus Tab” which are rings that go completely around your lenses. They stretch and they appear to worked pretty well. I just got a set to use with my X-Pro 3 and some 7artisans and TTArtisan lenses. Just copy the exact wording I have in quotes and you should find them pretty easily they're not that expensive either. Hello and thankyou for all your interesting videos, they are great. I have a question you may have answered, I have a lense that is fully manual in focus and manual aperture. i notice that no matter where i set the aperture the camera automatically compensates by adjusting the iso, i could do with an explanation of what to set the camera to in order to get the best results from the camera, your thoughts welcome.
@@somersetschool9958 Honestly i cant remember now, i cant even remember what i was aiming to do, i can say though that i was new to all areas with the T4, i recall creating some 360 pan tours with a manual fisheye lens, i think on more investigation i simply set the iso out of auto and the shutter speed increased (I think)..what is it your aiming to do?

If you using vintage lenses can you use auto shutter speed or auto expose?

do you use manual lens for paid job like the mitakon?
Yes, I've used them. Not the Mitakon, but the Viltrox. Usually I use the fuji lenses but this all depends on what I'm shooting.

just search for a lens hood that screws on like a filter (make sure you buy the same size as your lens filter thread).
