I really like Gundam movies with this ultra-realistic direction!!
Really shows you how devastating a mobile suit battle can be. 20 meter tall running and flying death machines that fire artillery rounds on full auto and have reactor powered beam weapons that only a decade before were reserved for battleships and they are spamming all this over a busy city with little care for missing their shots and blowing up city blocks.
@@TheFreakedoutduck iirc there was an older series where the perspective is following a bunch of civilians trying to evacuate while a MS battle is going on in their city. There's one scene where a mother is running holding her kid, and a spent shell casing from one of the mobile suits just drops and cracks her in the back of the head and she just goes down and dies instantly. Probably the most granular instance of collateral damage I can think of. So many Gundam series have whole colonies exploding, or ships we know to be carrying civilians, but it's rare we see something as basic as that. Not even an explosion (like Shinn's family in Destiny), or anything as major as that. Literally just a shell casing landing on the back of her head and she's out.
@@The_Razielimthat was a movie; Gundam F91. The woman getting killed by a spent casing is from the opening battle. There’s also a scene in that battle of a Jegan botching a landing during the fight and coming down on top of (and through) a crowded store.

@@joejunior5991 Pretty much. Forced deportations of spacenoids is the least of what they'll do. It gets much worse for the Noa family in the novels.
Neither did they too much. He was literally using the civilians as a shield after blowing up two hotels.
The difference though is that one is calculated while other is not.@@assidragon
The federation officials and the soldiers most of them are corrupt so yeah they dont give a damn about civilians. In their minds only money,power and position.
Zeon cleary has better system structural then federation
What I really like about this movie is actually the sound design, particularly for sounds that a heard from a distance and from within a building/cockpit. It's not often that this kind of detail is taken into consideration
I keep saying this like i didnt care for any of the characters involved I jst couldnt get invested in the plot after the ship landed im not a fan of the Penelope design aesthetically I think its an eye sore HOWEVER the production value of the entire movie, the sound design and the animation, i loved the score and the ambience of the world and jst the look and feel of the environment. The condensation on the window screen and stuff like that incredible!

そう考えると市街を背にしながら戦うテロリストも連邦軍と同じやな。
Brilliant scene, especially how the Mobile Suits display actual weight and realism. Using the skirts to provide lift while descending and how the verniers burn the air around them to ignite the trees. Even more jarring is how the Federation's automatic weapon fire scatters and randomly strikes the ground below.
And those automatic weapons are firing projectiles the size of tank shells.
2:14 my favourite scene
My two favorite details.
0:21 Really sells the war realism. Intense flashpoints on the horizon, viewed from a high altitude. Not everyone is in the action at all moments. The sense of serenity contrasted with ambiguous action in the distance.
2:15 The sensation of gravity and momentum. The robots are heavy things moving very fast. A second of weightlessness followed by a burst of high-Gs.
and weaponary is so monstrous in relation of that civilians. how much power gives thet violet beam? if you gonna look at splashes temperature - it's beyoun imagination for just a guy on the ground.

This is peak animation for MS battle in UC! Imagine those Zeon city invasion scene from Unicorn Gundam but with this level of animation!
Unicorn had animation quality like this already just no weapon realism and sound realism. But unicorn was unrealistic magic go brrr anyway

They really are changing and rewriting how federation does things. Usually like in unicorn feds are shown to be pretty good natured post Chars
the Federation still sucks in Unicorn. Most of the good ones we saw were specifically Londo Bell
The Federation's never been a fully righteous group, by UC105 they dropped all pretenses of being the only good guys in the Universal Century.
one of the major plot points in Unicorn, specifically informing Banagher's character arc, was that there are all kinds on both sides. Banagher interacted with the best and the worst, and a lot of in between in both the Zeon and Feddie sides of things (There also wouldn't be much of a story for Hathaway, the F90, Crossbone, Victory, etc. if Unicorn had actually resolved ANYTHING)
both side were pretty nasty during the one-year war fed use pretty nasty people to attack Zeon's areas and when i mean nasty people they one if they die no one will be sad that they die.

At first I was a bit confused about this movie first off is the character , I don't really understand what is Gigi's intentions or her purpose in this show , I did find her character interesting like she's a little sassy and a bit of a tease but after the attack at the condo I saw how scared she was that in the end she's still just a human who's scared of war and then there's that general that I've completely forgot his name his basically just a simp for Gigi also I don't understand if Gigi actually likes the general or she's just making Hathaway jealous , then there's the action I didn't really saw that much epic fight scenes except for the mafty attack , then after the show I've realized that this is not one of those movies where it has complete structure like the director didn't try to fit all of the elements , it has a slow phase show because I feel like it's nothing more than a prologue or an introduction to a completely different conflict or arc of the Gundam series , first we have the zeon war lead by the zabi then char's rebellion , and the Gundam unicorn which basically becomes the closing story of the whole zeon and char storyline and now with Gundam Hathaway opening a new type of problem which is more on the earth federation side like idk the federation this time will be the main main baddy of the Gundam series and that char clones will no longer exist but a different kind of char this time . What I'm saying is that Gundam unicorn is what finally closed the gate on the whole zeon , char conflict and now Gundam Hathaway is a prologue that will open a new arc on the Gundam franchise kinda like the episode 0 of Gundam the witch from mercury but we will see it when they finally made a sequel to the Hathaway this is just my personal theory btw so forgive me if there's some error .

Gigi is sort of the alternative to Quess, who was the reason Hathaway ended up where he did at the end of "Char's Counterattack" and what motivated his actions in this movie.
@michaelsimarmata5880 if you want the rest of hathaway's flash you can search up zeonic scans' translation of the novel and then watch the F91 movie, the Crossbone Gundam manga and Victory Gundam
The movie is beautifull, why doesn't it do better the Seed Freedom Movie.
The only thing I don't like about this move is it's too dark. I can't see shit. It would've been nice to see those mechanical designs of the mobile suits shown in the movie.
I think the film is produced in such a way that it looks best when seen in a movie theater.
Movie theaters are very dark, so the battle scenes that take place at night can be seen very well.
However, I agree that I would like to see the mechanical aspects of the Gundam.

I feel its on purpose. The scale and range of war from the PoV of the pilot. You can't see what the enemy really look like. In the dark and from a distance, all u see is a dot and numbers with only the targeting reticles assisting you.
It sucks, the fights were much brighter in the trailers. Hopefully we get some daytime fights in part 2.

his comrades were dying and getting captured because he was busy chasing skirts and abandoned the plan

I don't know the precursor to this story but being consistent doesn't make him a likable character. It just killed it for me and I never looked back since
@@superdahoho the thing about Hathaway is that he's trying to take over the mantle of the two people's ideals he respected the most while knowing full well that it's too much for him (that's why you always see him downplay people's praise for him).
He's fully aware that what he's doing is in the wrong (the whole terrorism approach) but doesn't know any better way.
Then comes Gigi, who immediately sees through his disguise and calls him out on how contradictory his goals and actions are, this plus her charms naturally make him waver since he was already unsure of himself to begin with.
He's not just being a simp because she's hot, it's because she's the only one that sees through him. Hence always being on the fence on whether to kill her or protect her.
Gigi's role is a weird mix of both the angel and devil on his shoulders, she points out his errors, but doesn't dissuade him as she finds it interesting.

Also, for the context you're lacking; He found himself in a similar conundrum in the previous work he was in. He fell in love with an enemy and in a half assed attempt to be with her and keep her safe, he ended up causing her death (or someone else's depending on the version as there's an alternative version of that story).
I say half assed because he was naive, not because he didn't put effort into it.
But yeah Hathaway in this work is an interesting character, he's got a lot more flaws than good sides but you can tell he's desperately trying his best with the fucked up hand he's been dealt with, or rather that he picked up.
An interesting conflict of "what happens to your idealism when reality already kicked your face once but you're not ready to abandon it yet?".

I found it darkly humorous that Mafty's group cared a lot more about civilian deaths than the FEDERATION OF EARTH!
I won't condone civilian death, but even forces in history considered near-universally justified and virtuous, were still brutal. The French Maquis resistance against the Nazi occupiers of France, for instance.

興ざめなことを言えば、MSが重力圏で飛んだとしたら、戦闘機の方が機動力高くね？
小説だからなんとなく納得できたものも映像にするとそんなことまで思えてしまうね。
戦闘機は機動性より運動性だしここまでMSが発達した時代で一発でも被弾したら墜落戦闘機で勝てるわけないと思うけど
@@荒木勝-m8t戦闘機のイメージがゴジラ等の怪獣にお手てで叩かれたりしているプロペラ複葉機程度の低速度や低高度なのかもしれませんが、リアルの戦闘機は超音速かつ1分で成層圏まで到達可能、人間の限界を遥かに越えた高G機動をします。映像がリアルになり過ぎると巨大ロボで空中戦の違和感が増しますね。富野監督はこの違和感を人形メカはジャンプの延長線程度の機動として表現、本格的な空中戦は可変機やサブフライトシステムで表現されてましたね。3次元表現で富野さんはずば抜けていると思います
一応戦闘機自体は現存してるみたいだけど大体は空中偵察とかそのへんの描写くらいしかないね
ミノフスキーと言う簡単に妨害電波が出来る粒子がある世界に戦闘機を主軸にしてミサイルも使えない豆鉄砲でMSを落とせるのか。
