  • Welcome back to my channel!
I've not been to a MODRAIL event in about 30 years, when it used to be held in a school in West Swindon. The event is now held more centrally, in a side building that is part of STEAM museum. Unfortunately, the lighting in the exhibition space is very poor, meaning good layout lighting is a must.
There was a great variety of layouts, in all the popular scales and one that doesnt feature that often on this channel. Quite a few of these were from local clubs and exhibitors, with many being new to this channel. Trade support was minimal, but there were also sales stands from the Swindon Model Railway Club, who organised the event. One layout that really caught my eye was the T-Track N gauge modular mash up created by members of the Monkton Park school club, in association with the Bentley Model Railway Group and Network Rail. Unfortunately for you, the viewer, I didnt film this layout as it was constantly surrounded by a throng of children, who I dont record or feature in my films, for obvious reasons. This layout has previously been seen at one of the Calne shows, that BMRG organise - perhaps it will be back at their event in April 2024.
Layouts featured in this film are as follows:
Dinas Maeddy - 4mm scale, EM gauge, Cambrian pre-grouping.
Morfa Mawr - 4mm scale, EM gauge, West Wales in the BR period.
Garden Railway - 1:35 scale featuring a miniature garden railway using 9mm track.
Malmesbury - 2mm scale, N gauge, based on the North Wiltshire branch terminus.
Tiny Town - 2mm scale, N gauge, fully automated modern image layout.
Portskerra - 4mm scale, EM gauge, Highland Railway terminus during World War 1.
Ikkehaven - 4mm scale, OO9 narrow gauge - a micro layout that is still under development.
Snake Pass - 2mm scale, N gauge - a mountainous layout of North American practice.
Hanbid Sidings - 7mm scale, O gauge - a small space O gauge layout featuring plenty of sound.
Sankei & Tetsudo - a Z gauge (1:220 scale) layout featuring Japanese railways and rolling stock
Patch Lane TMD - 4mm scale, OO gauge - a TMD based layout, upon which modern image rolling stock is seen.
Victoria and Albert Docks - 4mm scale, OO gauge - a layout replicating railways in the East London area.
Farmers Drove - an N gauge, 2mm scale layout, based in the Fenlands of Eastern England, time period 1970's and 1980's.
Finally, we have Aimford End - a 4mm scale, OO gauge layout - A first exhibition layout for its young modeller. I hope you enjoyed your first time as an exhibitor!
Many thanks for watching. I hope you enjoyed the film. Please feel free to comment, like and share. If you arent already, become a subscriber to the channel - every interaction you make with the channel really helps it develop.
    best wishes, Iain

As always thanks for sharing - I've not been to Steam for many years.

The birdsong was a soundtrack being played on Hanbid Sidings. Its quite nice, but after a couple of hours it got a bit annoying. Im currently building an exhibition layout which will have something similar - but it will have a button press activation or an on/off switch!
