They haven’t aged a damn day! Beth’s return from the dead story in 1989 (along with Roger Thorpe’s the same year) were two of the best return from the dead stories ever.
I loved Judi Evans as Beth, but Beth Chaimberlin grew on me. Nobody could be Phillip but Grant Alexander. Just my opinion. They both look so very young. Like time stood still a little bit.😃
Mary Kay Adams was great as India, always stirring the pot whenever she could, especially with Alex, Alan and Philip. Sherry was also great as Blake she played that part really well.
My wonderful mom began watching in the 50’s when she came to this country. She bought brass jello molds to put on her kitchen walls because Bert Bauer had them. And I still have them in my kitchen. We loved watching it together. I wish it had not ended!
Alan thank you so much for getting Phillip and Beth together. I miss Guiding Light so much. You shows are so greatly appreciated , especially since we all have to stay home due to the pandemic. It gives us something to look forward to. Thanks again.
Guiding Light, with its long and distinguished history, is the only "soap opera" that I ever instinctively loved and followed. I think I had good taste!
I saw this an hour after it ended. I regret not being able to ask Grant a question. I had heard that he had gone to the producer right after Guiding Light ended and tried to get the show back on the air. Unfortunately the producer passed away before their conversation could get much further.
Grant and Beth love them! Grant is probably my favorite GL actor! When I started watching he was my fave and I remember cheering in 2008 he was returning.
Again, thank you Alan for putting these together. Grant is timeless and just always brutally honest about everything. It's quite a trait! And Beth... when you look at her you see a beautiful woman "of 20" and you can't imagine the incredible history of insane things she's played the same character through. Both had amazing runs with and without each other and so great to sit here spending a Saturday afternoon catching up with a flood of memories featuring them both. I miss GL so much these days!
I remember exactly when Grant and Beth both joined the show. I was a young pre-teen when Grant joined and I was smitten from day one. When Beth joined I was an exchange student in Japan. They didn't get GL there, so my sister would tape them on VHS and send them to me. As soon as I saw her, I just knew she was Beth the character even before they addressed it. I am sorry that I missed the live, but grateful to see the video now. They both had such great chemistry with the people they worked with, which is a testament to their talent. I loved hearing about the great actors that are no longer with us, they had an abundance of talent and we are better for having seen them in their prime.
The role of Philip on the Guiding Light.... fits Grant Aleksander perfectly......there had others to play his role..... but none could play the role better than Grant Aleksander...... Brilliant
Lots of love from Germany. Startet watching GL in the 80ies - 99. Loved it so much. In Germany it ends at that time. Later on I discovered several episodes here and there, but I thing the greatest time of GL was in 80 and 90. You do a great job here, miss GL, but enjoy very much seeing
This was so awesome in so many ways. To hear the deep love for fairness and unity that I heard in the last 5 minutes of your conversation really made me still hopeful for our Country. It's okay to disagree, just do it with respect.

@@TheLocherRoomI didn't know you had a UA-cam channel dedicated to guiding light fans I was a huge fan of the show are you planning on having Hunt Block on your show anytime soon? he was so cool as Ben Warren or David Andrew Mcdonald as Edmund I liked his character as well.
That’s My Super Couple Right there.💯💯💯Love Beth and Philip 💕I am so grateful for Locker Room. GL is one of my favorite Shows. I miss the show so much 😭😭
🤗LOVED TODAYS GL REUNION LOVED BETH & PHILLIP FROM DAY 1 LOVED BOTH BETHS BUT BETH CHAMBERLAIN IS FOREVER THE MATURE BETH STORYLINES JUST AS JUDI EVANS IS FOREVER THE PROM THE BEGINNING OF THE FABULOUS LOVE STORY OF BETH & PHILLIP PLUS CHRISTMAS IN NY WITH PHILLIP & BETH IN 1983 OR 84 LOL WHICH INTRODUCED THE CHARACTER OF NICK OF WHICH I LOVED & LOOKED FORWARD TO SEEING EVERY YEAR AT CHRISTMAS AFTER THAT🤗🌺🌺🌺🌺
I loved the New York storyline with Phillip, Beth, Rick and Mindy too. I was extra special when they introduced "Nick" to the storyline. They should never have taken As The World Turns and Guiding Light off the air. They replaced them with a doctor show and a talk show. There are only so many ailments to discuss and only so many subjects to talk about. Taking the soaps off was a very bad decision.
@@tomtrout6593 I loved Judi in the role. Beth C fit the older Beth. I’m not sure Judi would have worked if, say, she came back in 1997 when they brought Beth back. Who knows, though. The writing for Beth was atrocious. They wrote for a character named Beth Raines but they didn’t write for the character of Beth Raines. I blame the writing for Beth during Beth C’s second run.
Wished he would have asked grant about charita bauer aka bert bauer who always reminded me of ada from another world . Connie ford and charita bauer were 2 of daytimes most iconic actors performers. Both AW. And GL. Were lucky 2 get them.
Alan, it’s been years since I’ve seen Guiding Light. Now watching again on UA-cam. I was wondering if there was a way to post some of the cast members names, side by side, with their character and real name and so we know who’s being talked about. Maybe at the beginning of the show or the end. Or perhaps some other creative way. Don’t know much about technology so not criticizing by any means, just a suggestion. Appreciate your show. For Beth and Grant, I understand your frustration with the shows format but believe me Guiding Light had so much happen in one days show compared to several soaps now that have nothing happened in a week. Thank you guys for doing this interview. Grant has a great point about our society today. He seems very analytical. Good Luck Beth with your business.
GL is the longest running drama series in broadcast history. Of all programs, any genre, GL ranks as the fifth longest running series. It may soon drop to sixth as the British radio soap opera The Archers turns 70 this year and may last longer than GL's 72 years.
Mine too...they inspired our first dance! It takes me back every time I hear Truly. I love Phillip and Beth! My favorite soap super couple ever! i wish I can find that prom scene on youtube.
Philip spaulding is the essence of the 80s and he s angry because it wasn t said that he was adopted. Grant alkesander like philip spaulding not dj philip di capitol, i see all my children. Philip grows yes but blocks what he wants to be writer, to be a businessaman, I also like the substitute bolger, the rivalry with half brother alan micheal, thanks for making us dream with Beth.
LOVE watching these and am seriously BIGGEST P&B fan ever but WHY IS NO ONE EVER TALKING/ASKING GA and BC ABOUT PAMELA LONGS EMMY WINNING WRITING RELATED TO BETHS SECOND RETURN? The mystery, Phillip in restraints, Blake hiding truth, the phenomenally acted hospital scene where he sees her for first time only to realize she doesn’t remember....WOW WOW... then adorable scenes with GA somersaulting off Alexandras bed he’s so excited talking about Beth FINALLY kissing him... trying to get her memory to return... etc etc. THESE were the best written most romantic simple scenes. Pam did the best at sweetness then extreme raw darkness/rage. Her unparalleled strength writing IMO is emotional RANGE and having touching moments that were not saccharine. Sigh. Long for GA to talk about this era.
I actually got into GL when Bolger was Phillip. Phillip and Rick were on the outs and Phillip was more Evilish. So basically the Lujack yrs when he was singing was when I was into GL for the most.
@@Dee-gx7yb Beth worked with Michael also. A memorable scene between the two was Roger and Beth having a confrontation about Roger and Mindy’s affair the day of Phillip and Beth’s wedding.
