Fun fact- Fanta originated in Germany. Tim Tams are Australian.
Fanta was originally German . It came into existence when the German Coca Cola bottler could no longer get ingredients from Coca Cola Corp. during WW2.
Persimmons began to be grown by NZ horticulturists for the huge Japanese market. It is a popular fruit in Japan.
You should just eat your way through Griffins biscuits. Toffee Pops come in several varieties now, all good, and then you have Sultana Pasties, Squiggles, Macaroons, Mallow Puffs, Gingernuts, etc. All Kiwi favourites. I'd say Shrewsburys too, but I bought a double pack a few months ago, and they were not good. I think they've changed the recipe, and made them harder and odd tasting. They used to one of my plain biscuit favourites so I'm hoping I just got a bad batch.
Maltesers were in the top 3 of every child in Europe 😂❤️
Could you do a video of traditional NZ dishes???☺️
You should try a bakery food tasting! Bakery foods is iconic for NZ. Potato top pies, ginger bread man, donut, egg and ham sandwiches lol!
That can vary a lot depending on the bakery though.
Yes to the mr whippy sherbert icecream where you can't breathe in too much because you will breathe in the powder
honeycomb and hokey pokey are two different sweets , one is made from honey , hokey pokey is made from golden syrup, try a crunchie bar , also ladies , try fruit bursts and eskimo pies .
eskimo pies are called Polar Pies now, definitely give them a try!
@@s6r231 nice , thank you for the update.
Persimmons go great with fresh walnuts. Who knew?!!
Oh really - will try that
The Burger Rings, Rashuns and Muncho chips are YUM! But as a 80's kid I can tell you that the lollies and chips now taste totally different to when I was a kid. You are missing K Bars, jet planes, wine gums and a few others that I can't remember. But great video and funny reactions 🤣
I love wine gummies, and I wasnt even born before 2000
Pineapple lumps
Is a K bar Whitaker or a Kellogg K-Time Twist?
Wait jet plains are a New Zealand thing?! Damn. I love them so much, they can't be just a New Zeland thing surely. Come on jet planes are the best
Whittaker’s is my faaaaaave choc in nz 😋 trumps Cadbury every time 😍
OMG Whittaker is the bomb.
almost every time ... Black Forest is better than Berry & Biscuit. Everything else, Whittakers is number 1.
I’m an Aussie and Whittaker’s is the absolute best!
Yooo I’m from New Zealand 🇳🇿 and Whittaker’s is the best!!!! Why is no one trying to Whittaker’s chocolate milk? The best’
@@juice8037 I’d have to go with Puhoi chocolate milk for that one then bro 😂
Persimmon are similar to apples. Best way to cut them crossways and you they have a star shape in the middle or core
This is hilarious. Great fun. Thanks for the laughs.
Also persimmons are meant to be peeled or you can bite off skin, spit it out and eat the fruit, you can also chop it into segments like an apple and eat to the skin, throw it away. I prefer them when still crisp with a crunch to the flesh, the soft, very ripe ones can be sickly sweet and off-putting
I'm really offended that yous don't like the burger rings or rashuns 😂😂😂
I’m offended too🙌🏼 haha 😂
Ewwwwwww.
Cheezels were the best.
Its coz they didn't grow up with it their taste buds are different
Yes I like cheezels
@@almostyummymummy Cheezels are Australian. Made by Australian Snack Foods.
I'm a Kiwi and I've never had many of those snacks, however I love love love persimmons! Whittakers chocolate is way up there also. Hokey pokey is similar to honeycomb.
persimmon is Japanese
I’m your average Maori gal born and raised here 20years in and I can say I have never tried that Tim Tam slam thingy😂😂 I don’t even know why either
I am sure someone else has answered this but honeycomb as it is called in Auzzie and US, is called hokey pokey here because as a child growing up in the 80s and 90s NZ we used to make it as a slab like toffee, but it is made with a mix of sugar, bicarb and few other things, the chemical reaction made it into crunchy, hollow and chewy snack as you broke it into bits to eat. Hokey pokey was associated with a song and dance called The Hokey Pokey and it also resembles a bee honeycomb with the holes in it. It is like the sweet versian of pumice stone
Both Whittaker's Berry Forest and Berry & Biscuit are so much better than Cadbury's Black Forest. Cadbury went down hill when the Dunedin factory closed and production was moved to Australia.
Rashuns love them by far my favorite snack
🤣😅 crack me up!!! Genuinely love watching you two. Your kids will enjoy leftovers.
That was so fun.. thoroughly enjoyed your taste testing.. I so love love love Persimmon's too.. thanks friends.🤪😅😅
All great kiwi staples
Burger rings used to taste like burgers when I was a kid, they did bring out a cheeseburger flavour years ago. But the main fun was seeing how many you could put on your fingers
Cheesels, rashuns and twisties are a hit or miss depending on if you like the soft fresher ones or the hard stale ones
That cheeseburger flavour was amazing, I wish they’d kept it.
Never liked them too salty
Buger rings were originally made by smiths chips
Cheesels and twisties are Australian not kiwi
Awesome review on part 2 of your food tasting ..great to see.enjoy the snacks .(.Whittakers)..yea not really afan of some of the other products myself ...at least you picked your best 3 😁..Really enjoying your channel on YT..Do more .
Mr whippy is awesome in nz too 🤣🤣we love it
Hokey pokey is golden syrup with sugar and baking soda all heated together and then set. It's delicious. But it can also be really sharp.
Timtams are bomb asf!! 🤣🙌🏼
If you want some contrast to Black Forest, try Whittaker's Biscuit & Berry
Rashins and Twisties yum
Tim Tams are Australian, manufactured by Arnotts, in Australia.. Named after a champion race horse. Burger rings are also Australian, manufactured by Smith's. Persimmons originated in Asia (Fuji fruit).Maltesers are British, manuctured by Mars. Doesn't hurt to read the packet lol.
Most of those snacks only kids eat lol. Persimmons are lovely. Whittakers regular flavors are the best chocolate. Toffee pops are too sweet for me
Hokey pokey is honeycomb but made with golden syrup. I think most teenagers have made it in their chemistry class in high school, it's just sugar and golden syrup boiled together, then baking soda added at the end. Persimmons taste different depending on the ripeness of them, some have big pips/seeds in them, some have small pips, you can eat them peeled or unpeeled. I usually take the top bit off and cut them into segments like an orange, take out any pips, then eat them, I prefer them crunchy, the man-thing prefers them more ripe and softer
We grew persminion (I can't spell this late at night) in South Texas. You are supposed to wait tell the are soft
i love twisties and yes those rashuns
this is so funny, love it
Bery good once again Tara and has given me a good idea for a forthcoming event.
I usually peel persimmons. They are like an apple but tastes like melon
Fanta originated in Germany as a Coca-Cola alternative in 1940 due to the American trade embargo of Nazi Germany, which affected the availability of Coca-Cola ingredients. Fanta soon dominated the German market with three million cans sold in 1943. The current formulation of Fanta was developed in Italy in 1955.
Whittiker's Choc is the best anywhere! Something you gotta try when your in New Zealand, and I get all my visitors that come here to do this... In America they get Mint Chip icecream and they do NOT have Orange Chip or Banana Chip ice-cream and they love it!
I have a friend in Canada who came here 20 years ago, loved the meat pies and they returned and created their own meat pie business in Saskatchawan He now has 5 shops open and making a fortune. Orange Chip ice-cream and meat pies the Kiwi way, in America = multi million dollar sales, even if you just do it in your own city individually.
You two are great together :)
Persimmon are really good in a fruit salad..they absorb the flavours of the other fruits.
I just tried butterscotch pecan ice cream 🍦 yum
Had to watch part 2 after an entertaining watch to part 1. Another good laugh! I'm sure you'll appreciate some these snacks if try them on their own. Hopefully you'll give rashuns another chance 😁
Persimmon yummy ladles 🙋♀️ RJs toffees are to die for. Love your channel 🙋♀️❤
Omg the rjs liquorice with the choc in the middle 🤤
Tim Tam's, are not a Kiwi thing, and I have never seen anyone slam one into their mouths.😉
Everything is reversed...thats weird. I really miss Pinky bars, last time in NZ I picked up a whole box and brought them back to the UK.
N Z boysenberry ice cream. Rich, creamy and fruity.
I think that hokey pokey ( or honeycomb ) is caramel that has baking soda added to it. I used to make it for the kids many years ago
Pavlova. Trifle with cherry. Two types of puddings. Also another which isn’t too popular is rotten corn pudding. I am told if you can get past the smell it tastes really nice.
Persimmon, slice it into thin wedges, like a tomatoe and eat it. Tastes really good.
You should also try Moro bars, Crunchie bars, Kiwi biscuits, Minties and Ginger Nuts.
Yes I have had all of those - that is why I did not pick it. Ginger nuts were on part one!
Minties are Australian.
Try all our nz ice creams and the soft serves too 🤣🤣🍦
Love the looks on your faces when you try some of these things. 🤣As a Kiwi I don't like a lot of those snacks you tried either. Whittakers Chocolate and Potato chips are much more my thing. 😁
Thanks for watching
Rashuns after toffeepops. Don't think kiwis could even do that combo. 😀
I can. :)
Tim Tam Slam , never tried it myself :)
You guys been having a few wines lol giggles alot
We usually peel the persimmon skin
The dance is called "The Hokey Cokey" in NZ (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hokey_Cokey), while hokey pokey is made of baking soda, golden syrup, and sugar. When we combine the hokey pokey ingredients, they fizz. It is a recipe most Kiwi kids have probably made before they leave primary school :-)
Also try Proper Crisps, and Baron Hasselhoff's Salted Caramels (car-ah-mells; not car-mells in NZ English 👍🏼👍🏼)
You can slam the toffee pops too
Hokey Pokey Clusters "YUM" see you both at 8:30.
For chips/crisps you should try the Kettle brand. Salt and Vinegar, Sea Salt, Honey Soy Chicken.
Kettle brand chips, are owned and manufactured, by the Australian Snack Food company.
Pinkies taste really good after a few minutes in the freezer. They last longer that way.
You should try cadbury crunchie bars, clusters are newer. hokey pokey is honeycomb
It may have been a tall tale, but I had heard that the original food colouring in the Pinky bar was not FDA approved and was banned in the U.S.
But it’s quite possible that a different pink food colouring is used now.
Honestly burger rings are my favourite lol it hurt my poor heart to hear the "eeeewwww" haha but to each their own. Love your videos Tara. I've been watching for awhile now i just learned your name. Its good to introduce yourself in the intro.
Thanks for watching!
The new choccy flavours are just marketing gimmicks... the best selling are still the original staples .... caramello, milk chocolate, fruit and nut, peppermint... bars are Moro, Crunchie (hokey pokey), Pinkie, Chokito.
100% behind you with that!! Wonder if we're related?😄
Nutroll 💕 .... Where/Why did it go? 😥
Try the Puhoi Belgian Chocolate milk, not cheap, but so damn good, and Belgian Biscuits, another Kiwi classic,my German mates tell they taste like Christmas.
Grabbing me some burger rings now
Try Deep South icecream - if you can get it in the North Island. French vanilla is best, and it must be good as it's often sold out when I get there
Yeah they sell it here in the Manawatu. It’s all we buy.
As you like coffee, you should try to get Prenzels Coffee Liqueur, and top it with their Coffee Cream Liqueur float, better than Baileys, and have you driven to the top of that little hill you live
on, and taken in the view from the water reservoir, at night, a great view over the Harbour and the Lower Hutt valley, especially on a cool clear night.
Never seen kiwi strawberry fanta, have to go try that
I love Rashuns. 😄
Same! Not sure how they're bad tasting lol. Burger rings aren't bad either.
Hilarious 👍
Chit Chats are an NZ biscuit ( you should try ) they are equal to an Australian Tim Tam, Chit Chats were in stores before Tim Tams arrived.
Chit Chats are 10 times better,it's the Chocolate.
@@Andy_M986 Absolutely!!!!.... totally agree with you, much better chocolate.
Marshmallow shortcake, peanut brownies, that aloevera juice (tastes like green grapes), pineapple lumps, nashi (fruit), milk bottles (I don’t like those), Afghans, kumara chips w sour cream lol the list goes on. I miss it all
Where are you living right now?
@@Kiwiamericans Abu Dhabi 🇦🇪 lol
I've always lived in NZ, and unfortunately I don't really like most of these either. Tim tams, toffee pops & peanut slab are always good though.
Pineapple lumps, Perkynana, Eskimo’s, Lemon & Paeroa, Kiwi dip (not the fruit) Kiwi dip is made with Nestle reduced cream, a packet of onion soup and a tsp of lemon juice, pavlova (never ever buy it, as bought ones are rushed) pav’s need to stay overnight in the oven once it’s finished cooking so the base cools slowly making it firm and crunchy. Bought pavs are too thick and marshmallow like because they rush the process.
Just a suggestion on the Tim Tam Slam. It's way better if you use cold milk instead of a hot drink, as then the biscuit goes soft and the chocolate hardens instead of falling apart in your hands. I actually started doing these about 30 years ago, but drinking port through them. Probably more of a love it or hate it flavour, but definitely worth a try.
Haha I did that in another video and everyone insisted it had to be hot!
@@Kiwiamericans That's okay, they're allowed to be wrong. lol
Hello thank for your video very enjoy
Glad you enjoyed it
Peanut slabs are also used as currency in our prisons believe it or not
Well that I did not know but believe it!
hi guys ,hv avocado with creme along with coockies . ... quiet nice !🥑🥑🍶🥛☕🥞
Fanta is from Germany WW2 (Fantastic ) they came up with this as Coca-Cola could not be sold during WW2
Please try my favorites :)they are, summer bars (' europe summer roll' and the 'europe nougat honey log' ) also (mars) bounty bars :)
Oh and try our fresh nz honey and our fresh nz honeycombs 🥰🥰yummy
We put the rashuns in white bread and butter
Try the Southland staples of lasagne topper, deep fried pizza, whitebait patties & then go for a long long hike to burn it all off LOL
I'm off to buy a bag of rashuns now. Luckily we can get them in Australia (I lived in Invercargill for 5yrs)
Will have to try some of that! Thanks for watching!
you may or maynot know there is an American mini mart in Auckland called Martha's Backyard !
One DOES NOT eat gingernuts dry .. they are specifically a dunker .... when I was a kid, my mum used to make a log out of them by spacing with whipped cream between them and leaving in the fridge to soften up.
dip the gingernuts in booze...makes a really happy lo for Christmas
Gingernut log...dunk biscuits in sherry, sandwich together with whipped Chantilly cream, cover with cream decorate with grated chocolate
We have Fanta and coke etc over here in nz too haha 😂 and yeah I’m sure it’s American but idk but it’s delicious here too and yeah the kiwifruit one is yum I think
Kiwi fruit are renamed Chinese gooseberries.
Chit Chat is the New Zealand Tim Tam... Chit Chat is far superior.
It was, until they started skimping out on the chocolate coating so much that it's transluscent and also reduced the size of one of the biscuit layers. Now they're trash.
@@michaelheliotis5279 I still feel the chocolate is far superior and not that sugary tasteless Australian chocolate.
@@subculturenz I mean, I prefer sugary tasteless (sweet isn't a taste?) Australian chocolate to a coating of chocolate so thin that it's almost tasteless anyway. And the uneven size of the two biscuit layers triggers my OCD real bad, or at least it will until they make the bigger one smaller in order to skimp out even harder. But each to his own I guess. 😃
@@michaelheliotis5279 tbh I haven't ever seen a almost translucent Chit Chat and the chocolate coating is very much present.
Maybe you got a bad batch?
@@subculturenz Nope, it's quite consistent. It's not over the entire thing, just at certain parts of it you can almost see through the chocolate to the biscuit layer underneath. It's quite pathetic.
peel the persimmon cut them into wedges and drizzle Lemon over them...they can also be dried out and eaten
I'm all about dark chocolate. Here in the US we have quite a variety of both US and imported chocolate. Is there much of that in New Zealand?
No need too the chocolate is amazing!!!!!!!!!
burger rings and rashuns...ghastly
We have persimmons in Taiwan! Didn't know it's name in English, and certainly didn't know they have it in NZ! Cool, definitely gonna see if persimmons in NZ are different when I go there~
The one you ate was the sweeter type which are more common nowadays, and you usually peel them(taste better that way). There's a kind which isn't that sweet, and they get processed to remove the astringency, therefore being very soft and not a good idea to peel.
I don't think they're grown a lot commercially here in NZ, though some people grow them in home their gardens.
1:13 nice save lol
You two are gonna have to try out some Kiwi gyms after all that. 😝
Need to try L&P, potato chips with french onion soup dip, Trumpets, and Wakachinga potato chips.
Yep, french onion dry soup mix stirred into sour cream makes an excellent dip.
Fanta: American-owned German brand. More than 200 flavors worldwide.
🤗
The Fanta we know now was born in Naples, Italy, where in 1955 Coca-Cola began using local citrus to formulate the now famous orange flavour.
fanta was created in the 1930=40es in germany when coka cola stoped selling serop
Pretty sure Fanta is under the coca cola brand, as is L&P these days, but you can't get that in the US, except when I ship it to my American mate over there.
Seeing you guys doing the Timtam slam was hilarious. I was concerned for both of you at times through the whole experience.
Yeah we looked quite ridiculous! Thanks for watching :)
Hokey pokey...made with golden syrup www.chelsea.co.nz/browse-recipes/hokey-pokey/
