There are only a few high class performers and there used to be Leyte Kalipayan what I considered spectacular, perfect, rich, excellent and the best. Kalahi is second best.
i love the dance. despite of some details that being questioned i appreciate the effort of the group to perform this without the purpose of disrespecting the culture but instead showcasing it and proud of our own dances. SALUT!
Kapag apir is a welcome dance by maranao people living in lanao... at this video the dancers are wearing Tausug custome which is a muslim tribe that lives in zamboanga basilan jolo sulu and tawi tawi...Kudos for the dancers and choreographer
hi! is there any way i can get the mp3 file of this music? i'm organizing a filipino culture show at virginia tech and i want to include this dance into the program :)
Ano po ba ang correct garment? Do you have photos? We visited the Cultural Center of the Philippines to get advise from a lady who is an actual Marnao princess. She gave us two designs: this one and the malong. Your knowledge can help us if you can share please. As for the movement, we are working on it. Most of us are born and raised in the US so we're just learning the culture, movements, etc. We joined the group so we can learn and share thru performances. You can help us.
What's often missing in these dances is their true royalty. Which is understandable for a republic. It would help if strict court etiquette would be written down and demanded. So that all these dances will not become contemporary or creative. Royalty composed music and dance to represent their realm and era and to distinguish it in terms or wealth and talent of the past monarchs. These dances must convey their original purpose to please the monarch, show off the skills of court maidens and symbolize the skills of a certain kingdom or sultanate. Perhaps more study needs to be done on preserving every single step. What I often see nowadays that those dances are just seen as colorful carnival the more spectacular the better. Let's go back to the simple intricate woven pattern both in dances and costumes. The dances should embody the spirit of the exact royal dynasty that bestows upon their people wisdom, talent, wealth and prosperity. Just as Bali's dances are very well defined, Thailand's exact movements so should Philippines bring back their originality in dance. Ancient royal dances are solemn and expertly performed. There should be a ban on untrue representations and people should study 6-8 hrs daily to become professionals. Kalahi is definitely on the right path. But the cultural center of Philippines is unfortunately not enough to get to the truth. One needs research and untiring travels to these remote islands to capture and order the right dance with the right community. And not mistake Tausugs for maranaons or Mindorons. It's not a mix a match frenzy. I think I like Kalahi they're nearly getting it right.
This is the one of my traditional dance pamagapir kano You see like this If have occation for Datu bae in maranao people we have ah many traditional dance And song I understand the song because we are maranao also but the custume is not maranao it's belong to other tribe in Mindanao called tausog
This looks much more rehearsed and behaved and synchronic or dynamic as Asian dances should be. It looks Leyte Kalipayan inspired Mrs Theresita Pill guided. What I miss though are strong timing and lining I'd rather see more rigid and solemn timing. The dance itself is graceful as it's less hopping around and swaying as is with amateur dances. This is definitely a high class performance with more expertise. However the colors red and yellow are too contrasting I'd opt for more earthly tints or feminine dress. All in all perfect performance.

Hello po saan ko po pwedeng makuha yung audio?
Kapag-apir ang audio search mo
but they are not wearing the Maranao costume but wearing the tausug one
Pag-apir po. Sorry for the late response. I can send you mp3 if you still need it.
Mam need ko po sana audio nito, thank you po
littleelement pa send po ako maam
I am a Maranao and I feel offended everytime I see our dances are being portrayed differently.
The costumes should be uniform in unison to my taste. And the richly sewn embroidery is missing to my taste.
Muslim po ba ito?
opo
mag sasayaw po kami ng ganyan sa March 1
