Ack van Rooijen (Bird Award Winner 2020) salutes Clark Terry
Ack van Rooijen brought a moving tribute to one of his heroes, Clark Terry, with whom he was touring and playing during the 70's. Ack recently received the Boy Edgar Award out of the hands of Dutch prime minister Mark Rutte, to honour him with his musical achievements during his impressive career.
This show was part of the concertseries ‘You’re in the Army Now’, that shines the limelight on legendary jazz musicians that served in the US Army during WWI. An underrated connection, because many jazz musicians weren't only schooled in the Army Bands, but they also served as a stepping stone in their careers.

De concertserie ‘You’re in the Army Now’ zet legendarische jazzmuzikanten die in het Amerikaanse leger dienden, tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog, in de spotlights. Een onderbelichte connectie, want voor veel jazzmusici waren de ‘army bands’ niet alleen een leerschool, maar ook een uitvalsbasis voor hun latere jazz carrière.

¿Y quién hace ahora un homenaje a Ack Van Rooyen? Se sentó aquí en este hermoso fondo a la edad de 90 años y tocó de forma increíblemente impresionante. Por desgracia, ahora también nos ha dejado en noviembre de 2021.
