Exploring Celebrity Flop Eras
Hey everyone welcome back to my channel! It's definitely been a minute. sorry for how long it's been since my last upload, there was an update in the community tab if ur curious (got sick lol) but I'm all good now and happy to be back :)) While I was gone though I missed out on the absolute CHAOS that was Liam Payne (ex-one direction member) showing up on Logan Paul's (of all people like seriously HUH??) podcast Impaulsive and the fallout from it all that caused a tik tok trend of all things. That alone was just an insane whirlwind of weird moments but it got me thinking about celebrity flop eras in general. While they're usually seen as a low point in a celebrity's career, lately I've started to think that there's a bit of a silver lining when it comes to flopping, and that's the entertaining chaos that seems to always come along with it.
Whether it's a (surprisingly catchy) song for a Just Eat ad by Katy Perry, Demi Lovato's show about alien hunting?? or Liam Payne offering to fight.. anyone at this point i guess? There's literally no stone unturned when it comes to the weird things that celebrities get up to during their flop eras so I thought it'd be fun to explore! Today we'll be looking into Katy Perry, Liam Payne, Demi Lovato and Jesy Nelson who I think have definitely had the most "eventful" flop eras as of recent but if there are any other flop eras that come to mind as an especially entertaining time in pop culture, share it in the comments so I can check it out!

Think about it, "flopping" as a celebrity just means early retirement, a large accumulation or wealth, and less people knowing who you are. That would be my peak
TBH I would be relieved to flop- disappear into the woods with all my money.
Honestly yes to this. But people are addicted to the money, fame and relevance- it is their identity and purpose
Different if you CHOOSE to go out at your peak though rather than being forced to go out because you dragged yourself into obscurity. Some of those people will end up declare bankruptcy in their 40s - it's tale as old as time. Not the likes of Perry but like Liam Payne? He probably didn't get a good deal with 1D so won't be as much as it should be and his solo stuff hasn't made him much at all.
Sometimes it’s just fun to watch people try and keep the relevancy they once had.

when you chase after new trends over and over again, you look desperate. that’s why branding is so important. if you maintain a generally consistent identity in the eye of the public, you can slowly shift your way from trend to trend while maintaining your personal brand.

You missed the most problomatic part of Liam Payne's interview. He basically insulted Zayn's family and said he doesnt come from a good understanding background. Which is especially shitty given that Zayn is the only poc in 1D and from a muslim family so he went through alot of racism and islamophobia that the 1D memebers and producers never defended him from

THE DEMI FROZEN YOGURT THING pissed me off so much from a PR pro perspective. They had a genuinely good album, the power of trash man Scooter Braun, and an inspiring recovery story behind them and they BUNGLED IT BECAUSE OF COOKIES!!!!
Sometimes I think he has his artists take control and watches them mess up just so he can prove a point because that man is so good and his artists always flop over the dumbest things.

@@caseyaonso4270 As a KatyKat, I think Capitol Records decided she wasn’t making them enough money anymore, so they decided to not promote her. I think she could make a comeback, but it would need a lot of promotion and the song would have to show huge growth as an artist

So now no label will put a big money campaign on any artist especially not someone like Katy Perry. That's why we don't really have big music superstars anymore bcuz back in the day they were big bcuz of the marketing. Now the marketing is mostly through social media hence why so many IG and tiktokers becoming pop artists bcuz they already got huge following and an image ready to sell and these labels signing them bcuz they are money making machines.. i adore nmixx they’re SUPER talented, but it took me months to add O.O and Tank to my kpop playlist… they’ve both grown on me a lot since then though. i’ve been able to get over freaky fishy fishy, but what I can’t get over is that weird distracting time signature at the beginning of O.O lmaooo. but all in all i really enjoy nmixx haha
I have a feeling that if O.O and Tank were released by a debut group from a not-too-popular entertainment company, those songs would have flopped really hard. Since NMIXX is from JYPE, one of the Big 3, it was easier for them to get away with it and people will try their hardest to like the songs. I still remember that the group got tons of pre-orders even though JYPE hadn't reveal the members AND the group name yet. I'm also not saying that NMIXX isn't talented, they're SUPER talented and I adore Lily M. However, I do acknowledge that being in the Big 3 gives them an advantage to succeed as a debut group with mediocre songs.

I'm not diabetic and still there is too much added sugar into pretty much everything. And it's truly bad for our health, also for us who can process sugar. Had I seen the sugar-free froyo, I would have assumed that the guilt free is because it is healthier than anything with sugar in it. Demi needs to chill, and take a break from SoMe... they are too easily triggered by everything

Harry is so talented, the fact that he has made it to #1 with all three albums warms my heart. I used to be a HUGE fan of one direction and found Harry’s solo music to be the best of the group even though Louis was my favourite. Louis’ got a unique voice but harry is top tier in writing and vocals! Absolutely love him

i actually saw katy perry in concert during the witness era and IT WAS THE BEST CONCERT i have ever been too and i feel like both of the two “flop” era albums are pretty good
Even though the billion streams wasn't accurate, at one point in 2017, Strip That Down actually was the highest selling solo single for a 1D member. I know it probably isn't now but Liam was talking about how big an impact the song had right out of the gate, so then he had to refocus onto trying to top that. I don't know why he said he wasn't looking for a solo career though because he was one of the first in the studio post hiatus, even posting teasers on IG of his work. His biggest mistake was trying to move into hip hop. Also when he said he was placed at the front of the band at first, that was true. He's mentioned it many times over the years. He was the only one who had experience with live performance so the XF crew just put him at the front while the others got used to performing.

I think Liam's problem is he has no idea who he is and is too insecure and too desperate for relevancy and popularity to be vulnerable and explore who he is and take risks. Instead he is just musically flailing around throwing trends at a wall and hoping it works.
The other members of 1D on the other hand also had to find who they were, but let themselves be vulnerable and take risks, and as a result people loved it and related to it. Louis is doing completely different kinds of music, but his fans adore him for his relatable and heartfelt lyrics, and non-fans like me respect him for it.
I'm a fan of BTS, and when they announced they were going on a break to do solo music and complete their military service, they spoke about how the industry moves so fast you loose sight of who you are and prevented them for finding who they had grown into over the years. Now they are exploring different sides of themselves in their solo music with the same vulnerability and courage they have always shown in their group music.
I think Zayn, Harry, Louis and Niall have all also gone through that process, being vulnerable, finding who they are and accepting themselves and their music for who and what it is rather that trying to chase trends and what people expect. I don't think Liam has, I think his insecurities are greater than his courage, and I hope that changes for him.

As a KatyKat, Witness is a great album, but it could have been handled a lot better. Smile could have been great, but she took pressure from the public and made a generic album.

The thing is I think Katy Perry prefers the 2010s sound. And an Artist should make music of what they are passionate and strong about. There was no promotion because she didn't want to promote it like her other albums. The downfall of Witness was that people rejected her after she cut her hair. I mean, no one gets a say in someone wanting to change their hair. It's just stupid and I feel bad for what she had to go through
