I should have saved this vlog for Friday! Now I don’t want to go to work, I want to get my plot sorted!!! Aargh! I’ve got a hard week this week so I’m going to need time outside by the weekend. Hopefully it’s not raining! I could watch you all day, I can’t wait to see what this year brings on your smallholding ❤
I am so envious of you both what a great lifestyle, sadly I am too old for strenuous gardening plus I live in a small town house but am completely enjoying your videos.
Always so much inspiration in your vids. Our exciting news is that we’ve finally decided to take the plunge and sell up so we can find ourselves a small plot of land. Lots to do to get ready for that but hoping we might be on a new plot within a year 😊
We will be moving a little slower this season, hopefully, because of all the jobs that need to get done around here in the rainy season of Kentucky/Tennessee. By March, it should start to dry out. changes are coming soon!!! I can't wait to see your garden in full bloom!
I put in onion sets earlier this year, first time doing it in winter. They are looking great. Also have some from seed, coming along. Wish I had the space like you have. But land prices in Oxford is astronomical 😅
It poured this morning but sun came out and I got a wee bit done. My winter broad beans died due to cold wet weather so I’ll sow more this week. Wild garlic 🧄? 😂😂 your not gonna win 🐓🐓. You should be able to split the rhubarb as long as the stalks are still small (under 12”). Oh my I grew lovage one year note the word one 😮 it was a freaking tree 🌳. You’ll get there it’s moving along really well and a list is great because once ticked off you can see the fruits of your labour. It’s a shame isn’t it having to hide everything but needs must. Thanks for,the walk around Tracy, have an awesome week, Ali 🌦️🇨🇦
Sorry for the late reply, another one of those weeks LOL - when isn't it? You're cold again now aren't you? Wait until you see the list for this week ! Hope you're doing ok Ali x
So pleased your potted French tarragon has survived the winter 😃. In the late spring when it gets warmer, you can take cuttings from it. I find the tarragon planted in the ground outside tends to show new growth much later in the spring, so don’t lose hope. Garden really does look great. Lots of little jobs but shouldn’t take each one too long. It’s always a bit overwhelming this time of year. It’s fantastic that you have carrots, parsnips, sprouts, artichokes and leeks growing to eat fresh. And green onion tops 😉 And new kale soon. Along with fresh eggs. (And fresh roast rooster 😬😄). I call that a huge garden success for your family. 👍🏻✅💚
I didn't know that on the cuttings, thank you. Lovely words, thank you Amanda. The last of the veg is coming out very soon though I keep extending it as it's not showing signs of giving up which I expected by now!
mushrooms look like wood blewit. Look underneath the gills should be a nice lilac colour. They usually grow in wood litter like wood chips and they usually appear after a frost.
I remembered your wild garlic! re the raspberries if you can remember too, get some electrical tape, wool whatever, if the raspberries send up new growth from the crown tag them, they are autum and should be cut to a couple of inches every january, if they shoot from old wood, they are summer and you should prune the canes that fruited in the autum leaving this years growth for fruiting next. do you have any farmers that grow under poly tunnels near by? if so offer to dispose / reuse an end of life plastic sheet. you can recover your poly and maybe the cold frames (polycarbonate or plastic greenhouse glass off cuts more sturdier) and also useful for temporary tarping. great videos as always, new beds look ace, Mike
Ahh I wondered if anyone would remember! It's coming along a treat. Thanks for the rasp tip too! That's great info!! Cold Frames sorted - coming up in the next vid :)
Hi Tracy.. thanks for sharing - fab as always …. Very interesting you mentioning the German giant garlic being very slow/ a bit of a no-go. You may remember me mentioning that I also sourced some German giant garlic and like you for me everything else is okay and doing well but the German giant is not.
As I was listening to you about moving the fruit trees Comfrey popped into my mind ( the none invasive kind) on the permaculture sites I watch they grow comfrey under the fruit trees not only are they good for the trees but it make's good compost, and act as a weed suppressant Oh and couple of leaves are good for chickens as it is high calcium,
I tend to keep all my herbs a bit hungry, and find I get healthy plants and they seem hardier. Brown dead tips on rosemary this time of year I find is frost and / or wind burn.
@@OurSmallholdingAdventure we get a few hours of sunshine and the next morning it's wet again. I think they are intentionally trying to screw all the food growers. They want is relying on their crappy value food grown on rocks with chemical fertilisers. 100%.
Hi Tracy, Another great video, I too have done lots and lots of onions this year, normally I just do sets but I’ve put in 9 trays of seeds (yes I know 9!!!) but hey you can never have too many onions right? Looking forward to seeing your squashes this year and also would like to see how you are doing your soft fruit cuttings as I never have any luck, I’m a fruit grower by trade who can’t grow fruit from cutting, mad hey? If you happen to have a pick your own fruit place around you they may be selling off their coir bags as they can only be used for the maximum of 3 season? Worth an ask if you have one near you? We sell our strawberry bags for 5p each!!!! And normally you get free strawberry plants in them too that normally come on well, they are great for fruit trees and indeed any fruit really, I also use them mixed with compost for my seed starting as vermiculite is quite expensive, anyway have a wonderful week, I hope the weather is better for you than it’s forecast for here in Wiltshire, have a good one guys x
Hi Maria - so late getting back to everyone this week but here I am. I hope you're well. 9 trays of onions sounds right up my street ha! Made me smile on the fruit grower luck ;) Thanks for the tip too.... great idea. The weather is up and down like a yoyo! Take care x

@@OurSmallholdingAdventure Many thanks
Great video well worth the wait
Thank you Arron - busy days but we do love managing to get a video out at least once a week. Another tonight at 6pm.

Oh how much fun! That's so exciting, can't wait to hear how you get on.
You’ve reminded me that’s what I wanted to buy this year.. a honeyberry!!
I can't be held responsible for any impulse purchases :P

How exciting on the onions - one of my favourite things to grow!

Those mushrooms look very much like blue buttons , purply colour on the tops , Delicious .
I thought you might know, I’ll Google those, thank you 🤩
@@OurSmallholdingAdventure Please let me know the outcome. Thanks Tracy.

You know, I was thinking about you saying that after the video. If I get one to grow, I'll share the cloves to try again!

oooh that's very good to know I'll look in to that thank you (and treat em mean ;) )
Great catch up as always. The new raised beds are looking good.
Thanks Lorraine x
Lovely video as usual!!! I wish they'd stop with the weather modification because we need some sunshine, wayyy too wet im so fed up!!! 😩😞
Same here! I thought it was settling down but seems we're off again!

Divide that rhubarb . They tend to die at the centre. Same as most perennials. The outer edges will do better without the old centre.
That's really good info, thank you
