John Scofield is Monterey Jazz Festival's 2023 Showcase Artist.
A collaboration between rotating funk ensemble Scary Pockets (anchored by guitarist Ryan Lerman and keyboardist Jack Conte) and keyboardist Larry Goldings (who’s played with everyone from Jack DeJohnette and James Taylor to John Mayer), Scary Goldings combines hard-hitting grooves and well-crafted parts with the improvisational genius of Goldings and guitar god John Scofield to make for a truly fun and unique time.
Scofield is a legend. And Tal brings SO much to any session she's on bass - a future legend, indeed!
Scary pockets jammers with Scofield and Wilkenfeld!! What’s the world coming to!!!😂👍👍👍👏👏
Nice to see Tal back on Bass again....!!
Agreed! Been awhile since I've seen or heard anything from her.
@@fastinbulvis2223 she filled in several large shows with Incubus this summer. she's been working :)
pluck pluck, dandandan pluck bzz bzz bzz ...Tal = bass.
She's got a couple solo albums, and they're amazing
Yep ! Groovy as hell 😋. With such a bass face, cannot be bad !
Tal sounding as great as ever since her days with the late great Jeff Beck🙏
Watching and listening to John play guitar never gets old. Tal playing so funky and hasn’t aged in ten years.
Pros having a good time, so were the listeners. Lovely to see Tal again :)
So good to see Tal back on the road again. I could listen to her bassplaying all day!
Why are the bands all white even though the music is black based ?
@@WildtoneMusic Yawn...another Troll trying to start sh!t online
@@WildtoneMusicdoes it matter
@@WildtoneMusic You could say ALL this music is black based as it is rooted in West African rhythms and melodies.
This is Scary Goldings with Scofield and Wilkenfeld
Love Tal Wilkenfeld , she is so awesome. Love when she jamed with Jeff Beck.
Not just ‘jam’; she was in the band for years.
I knew she was 🤘😎
Sco and Tal sound great, buy also give it up for Larry Goldings on the B3. I could listen to this band all night.
Everybody killing it!!! Tal sounding great...and the groove is scary indeed!
While John and Tal are listed in the headline... lets not miss Larry Goldings on organ. He's a major player as well. Starting with Maseo Parker through to James Taylor's touring band with Steve Gadd, Michael Landau, Jimmy Johnson. He's played with some amazing players in his career. And it's still on fire. Check out his trio work with Goldings, Bernstein & Stewart. And Scary Pocket and may others. He's a beast of player. And very tasty.
Damn straight
yeah, and he wrote this music too
@@bluecrueful So amazing! Do you know the name of the tune ? I can't find it :/
Sco and Tal are listed in the headline and Larry Golding is in the name of the band! He is the leader (John and Tal are guests). BTW, John and Larry have played together in many projects.
I like the way Tal moves. She really feels the music! 😉
Love the sound of the Super Bassman!
Very cool!! Also Tal laying down the funk. Doesn't get any better.
Great Stuff! Had the distinct pleasure seeing John for the 1st time 48 yrs ago George Duke Billy Cobham Band along with Alfonso Johnson
hip pockets, uh huh
BC George Duke band live in Europe one of my top favorite albums of all time
@@alanwatson3367 You have distinctively good good taste my friend! Check out Robben Ford playing with Scary Goldings Humble strut live
We are the same vintage. Amazing to me that fusion got a bad name but it still lives on.
@@jaaklucas1329 Not for casual ears!
OMG ! I love Johns playing. Can`t get enough. Keep on groovin John !!!!!
That gal, Tal can put the groove in any jam!
Jack and Ryan just allowing everyone to shine - awesome.
Saw them at the Newport Jazz Festival this past August. It was perfect outdoor summer jazz-fest music.
I was there too!
@@danamaguire4285Such a beautiful day!
Tal is infectious, you can't take your eyes off her, such a groove
You might like her interview with Lex Fridman.
I definitely can’t take my eyes off her. 🔥
I was having a hard time trying to put my enthusiasm into words, so thank you for enabling me to just add my "Amen, brother(or sister)" to yours. Tal is just a joy to watch and listen to. Also, her "stank face" near the end is one of the best things ever to be captured on video, IMHO.
Great sounding funk~ and featuring Sco and Tal pushes the cool factor way up!
un excellent musicien ,de jazz électrisant ,innovateur et performant ,une classe atypiques, une légende unique et exemplaire ,c'est un son magistral ,décoiffant
What a bass face and a bass player 🙂 !
Great feeling, the drummer and the bassist are waving together
Tal... always impeccable
I saw John Scofield only once with Dennis Chambers on drums and was incredible. Glad to see he's still got it and then some! Love Tal Wilkenfeld also, great band.
How anyone could not like this is beyond me. So good.
Don’t mind me, just here for one of the finest musicians I know.. Tal Wilkenfeld. 🔥🔥 okay Sco, and Scary too okay
Tal is as recognizable as Leland Sklar. Talkin' about the hair. And the MASSIVE TALENT!!!!!!
HA HA
Tht's just stupid. She's ok, but no Leland.
@@woudytreez2755 @LerockJohn is referring to their individual distinct Images. Tal and Leland are both extremely talented bassists in their own right and distinctive from each other. They also respect each other. Its not a competition.
Looks like Weird Al
Brilliant! John & Larry and the other new stars of jazz funk. I have believed in humanity again 👍
Killer band for sure love it!
That was great. Everybody did their thing. Tal runs during the organ solo were perfect.
Yes. Amazing
This is top shelf joy! They are ON FIRE ♥
Haven't seen Ted Poor since 'Live From Here' ! He's one of my favorite drummers.
Thanks for mentioning his name. I was wondering, who might be this wonderful drummer. 🤝
Ya know it's kicking when Jack stands up.
Painting feel good music! With fantastic musicisians.
Good to see Tal back on bass!
It‘s Scary Goldings ❤
yes I mentioned them in title of the second vid of these guys and will add more mention of Larry Goldings band deservedly so, thanks
This song is called 80s Tv Theme by Scary Goldings for those wondering.
and it sounds like it.
Dang! Killer groove! John's phrasing is just out of this world! Thanks for sharing - inspiring stuff!
The use of space with the phrasing is what's killing it
Love John’s playing thanks for posting
It’s actually “Scary Goldings.” Scary Pockets has toured with keyboardist/organist Larry Goldings calling it Scary Goldings. They have been featuring John Scofield on guitar and Mononeon on bass. I guess they had Tal sit in.
What a great band !!!!!!!!
Love her very tall Fender Bassman Amp . I had a Fender Bassman 50 top with VT Bassman 2 15 bottom. McCartney used it in the making of Let It Be , the Rooftop and all that. One of the best bass amps ever and at 50 watts tube driven, you could really drive it.
I like when she played a EBS stack and y'd into an Ampeg SVT...she totally had the sound spectrum covered :D
There is SO much talent on that stage right there!
Man!! I haven’t listened to The Sco in year… his tone and phrasing is out of this world. Untouchable.
John zeigt`s uns wieder allen! Völlig losgelöst. Sahne Nummer, Sahne Band! Thanks John
Old and wide open! Rockjazz of the 80th! 😎🤟😉
Wonderful 😊
Man that's some scary pockets there with John and Tal!
My favorite Bass Player 😍! 😝
Great! And some additional Scary Pockets. Wonderful :)!
I love his lines. They can be so angular.
Scofield is one of those very few Git - Pickers who's playing is almost instantly recognizable.
I was wondering what Tal has been up to these days. Good to see the Sco and her doing that thang. 🎸🌎☮️🤓👍🥓
Check out her cover of Joni's Big Yellow Taxi! Tal is a freakin' beast on bass with the voice of an angel!!!
She filled in for Incubus bassist Ben Kenney early in 2023. Ben was recovering from brain surgery at the time.
Tal has quintessential bass-face!
Thank you very much for this vidéo ! 👍🙏👏
What a Great timing and groove all of them have…together
Larry and John have been playing together for decades. One of my favorite Scofield albums with Larry on organ was Groove Elation, released in 1995.
appreciate all the comments, more vids from Monterey jazz festival and Scofield, Tal and Scary Goldings coming soon, please subscribe......thanks
Awesome group!
Soooo good! I haven't hear anything from Scofield in years. Loved it!
Thanks this band is just cooking, oh so funky man!
Tight band. So fun.
Tal has come into her own, and is a joy to hear in this ensemble.
Her confidence makes the music that much better.
Great suff!, Tal keeping everything in the pocket
Outstanding!
Tal playing precision? This is awesome!!!
She‘s been playing a precision for many years.
All I can say is WOWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!
I've been following John Scofield since 1995. A guy by the name of John Sachs turned me on to him in rehab! Love your work John!
Wonderful!
every time I hear him play, I learn something. he is a library.
That was fun. Thanks for sharing.
Man have I missed Tal. She's come a long way since the Jeff Beck show I saw her in. She also ages like a fine wine. Spectacular.
Hey John, I’ve been digging your stuff a long time, you’d could say I love it. I hate to tell you, I might love Tal a little, lot more. I’m talking she rocks. And she’s a lot easier to look at.😮😂
Dream come true to see Tal and John playing together. More please!
Nice to hear something fresh from Scofield again! Before i saw an old man in a boring jacket playing boring Jazz for quite a time.
Fearsomely awesome!
Scary Goldings featuring JS and Tal
But the other guys are Scary Pockets, actually
Tal, you are super, i love you... r music!
FANTASTIC !!!
Saw this band at Newport! They were unbelievable!! The whole set was like this. Great, great band.
Who's the drummer? I didn't catch his name, and I don't think he has recorded with them.
I think it's Ted Poor.
Incredible John Scofield !!!
Let's just take a second to appreciate that actual guitar of John's, daaaamn giiiiirl!
Impresionante
i love this music
So amazing !
Ted Poor on them drums y'all!
thanks I was gonna ask if anyone could name the drummer, he was in the pocket like a a mofo layin down the funk all set

thought it was that shouty TV chef
Thanks! I was wondering how come he is not mentioned in the descriptions, he is really good! An totally new to me.
Indeed! Thanks😉
Mmmmmmmm yassssssssssssssssssss 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊 Love that pocket!
Wonder why John hardly looks over at Tal? Love that old school tone through the Silverface Fender.
That's the spirit! Well, well, well…
So good!
Larry on that Hammond, just wow!
Those guys are so lucky to get to play with a great talent
Like Tal
Nice to see Tal 👍

I remember his work with Stanley Clark and George Duke….stellar….almost 50 years ago…
I could watch and listen to that girl play bass all day, she's the coolest thing since sliced bread.
The Scary Pockets Funk Band.
