Worked perfectly. Cartridges did recognize that they were used before, but the printer still accepted them. The printer seems to think they are only half full, which maybe I didn't get them full but it sure felt like it. In any case the Ink Owl system worked well with minimal mess. Most of the mess was because of my inexperience. By the 2nd cartridge it was a lot better. Wear gloves like in the video and use an old towel to catch any splatter and wipe of the syringe. I would recommend. Nicely designed.
really? wow this was the information i was looking for! i have taken apart one counterfeit cartridge and i was wondering how in the hell it could work. the hole which is connected to the printhead was a different hole from which was connected to the bag inside. and i was also wondering how the hell could the ink escape the bag. it was a real mistery because i have read words like "ink bag inside cartridge" so i have automatically thought that it holds ink. now it is clear. thank you
Ciao caro ma visto che te ne intendi , cosa dovrei fare dopo ?perché io l’ho ricaricata ma mi dice che devo cambiare cartucce perché il chip continua a vederle scariche
I bought set of 4 refilled cartridges. So I just inserter 1 by 1 and refill original and keep them to install when message apear replace new cartridges. Thanks
i own hp 7740 printer. it works with 953 cartidge. i tried to order from your website. it only shows 952 cartidges. are they mathching? if you plz. some companies offer cartidges without chips, what they are used for? thank you in advance
The ink kit we sell will work with HP 953 as well, but the cartridges we sell will not work with HP 953. Cartridges without chip would require you to move the HP chip onto them to work. I definitely don't recommend this. I would recommend simply refilling the HP 953 cartridges you already own by following the instructions in this video. Note that it is mandatory to own 2 cartridges of each color and to alternate between them as explained in this video.
Just fyi... If by chance you only have one cartridge or you pull it out before it is done and says that is depleted, it takes a few moments of your time but you can go into the settings of the printer itself and turn off the setting that tells it to remember the last cartridge
Another channel suggests using a large syringe (100ml) and pulling on the syringe with ink in it (creating a vacuum) instead of pushing down. I had a little accident while using overpressure if you get what i mean.
Is there away to use hp protected cartridge..some one gave me 4 cartridge they are almost new on installation printer said replace cartridge coz they are hp protected
Cartridges that come from a different printer that had "Cartridge Protection" enabled cannot be used in any other printer. There will be no way for you to use those cartridges.
@InkOwldotcom thank you very much I heard about something called jailbreaking is that can be useful in this case, can I have your WhatsApp number to further communicate with you easily if I need more info ?
My 8715 with starter cartridges does not get to "depleted". They have the yellow triangle and the printer will only allow printing in black even though the magenta and black have ink and the cyan and yellow both have yellow triangles. How do I get them to be depleted so I can refill them for the first time? Thank you
Hi, I am intending to buy HP Office Jet Pro 8210 Printer which supports 953/954/955 Cartridges. Will this process of switching cartridges after depleting work on this printer as well?
For 963 cartridges, you need to follow the refill protocol as follows: - Never remove any cartridge unless it's marked as "Depleted". Even still, remove only the color that is depleted. - Install a DIFFERENT, FULL cartridge in the place of the one you just removed. It doesn't matter if this new one is refilled or brand-new, so long as it's filled and it's not the cartridge you just finished removing. - As for the cartridge you just removed, you can store it for a refill next time. You'll need 2 cartridges of each color to make this work, of course.
Hi, I've an Office Jet Pro 7740 -- my cartridges are full but the date shown on these are 2022 06 -- the msg shows - older generation cartridge, they are 952 XL Black Ink Cartridge. I know we can trick the printer in a way that it won't look at the date, the 4 pins out, how can we do it ?? software update, ??
Hi Inkowl, nice video! Probably the most well done for this cartridge I seen so far. I haven't done the replacement or rotation. I have the hp 8710, firmware WBP2CN1803AR and i'm not sure if the rotation works in this specific printer since i assume the 954 is used on various models, I'm so mad at HP since I just runned out of cyan and then bought the original xl yesterday and as soon as I install it the yellow ran out! wtf! Not sure why i'm almost positive that ass soon as I replace the yellow the mageta will run out too. so back to my question what do you know about the 8710 and this firmware? thanks a lot regards, Sergio.
I'll have an aftermarket set and the original hp instant ink set. My question is after my aftermarket set is depleted and I switch for the instant ink set, can I just immediately remove the instant ink set and reinstall the freshly filled after market set? The issue is I cannot use the instant ink set, to depletion, since I don't subscribe to the service. It doesn't work.
This doesn't work, "Instant Ink" cartridges cannot be refilled or used as part of this rotation precisely because they are subscription based. Installing the Instant Ink cartridge without being a member does not work for the purpose of enabling the refill. You absolutely need a minimum of 2 cartridges of each color, either HP store-bought or aftermarket is fine.
I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 9015, which I'm sure you have a refill kit for. Another ink supplier's "how to" video showed that the 9015 will no longer the display the ink amount onscreen, in the Printer Status page, or in HP Smart. He also said, "You Must turn Off Auto Updates or HP may 'shut you down!'." Does your ink and refill procedure allow for normal operation, including all ink level indications, everywhere, and the low and depleted warning notifications? Does it allow for leaving Auto Updates On? His did not show sucking the air out of the cartridge and it was not mentioned. Not that I'm disputing it here! Also, someone in comments said, _"The bag inside the ink cartridge does not hold ink. It holds air. The air bag expands to help push the ink out."_ Is this correct and does the bag still expand to push the ink to print head? If your procedure sucks out air, then that would seem to be from the ink bag, with maybe an air bag behind that expands as the ink bag empties. Which is correct? And if while continuing to press ink in with the syringe, air gets pushed in because the pump was pushed too far or the syringe wasn't removed quickly enough, is there a "Burping" procedure to do? Or does the Priming do that? You removed about 4 cc/ml during Prime. Is it necessary to take that much out? His didn't show that (only mentioned it as a possibility), so your procedure looks more complete. Please answer all question. Thanks
The HP 962 cartridges as used in the HP 9015 printer are refilled exactly the same as the HP 952 shown in this video. This includes the whole refill protocol with switching between cartridges: 1. Never remove a cartridge unless DEPLETED. 2. Install and use a DIFFERENT (and full) cartridge in the place of the depleted one. To answer your questions: The ink levels are not displayed when using refilled cartridges. You will instead see a blank bar. However, since you must never remove a cartridge unless depleted (and you get the "Cartridge Depleted" message) regardless, seeing exact ink level indications is not really important. Simply print and print until the printer gives you the "Cartridge Depleted" message, at which point, remove the affected cartridge, and refill and install your alternate. HP's software updates can affect the use of generic (non-HP) cartridges. They will not affect the refilling of genuine HP cartridges. If the cartridges you will be refilling are all genuine HP, you do not need to change the Auto Update settings. The priming step indeed removes all trapped air from the ink chamber. As you inject, air pressure naturally builds in the chamber. As shown in our video, you have to hold the syringe in place but release the plunger, and it will automatically recoil to relieve some of that pressure. Of course, it will not relieve it all, hence why we include a priming step in our instructions. The inclusion of this step yields much more reliable results from the refill. During priming, you will hold the cartridge with the exit hole facing upwards and suck out. There is no set amount to suck. Instead, suck until you see actual liquid has exited into the syringe. At that point, stop, and you can put the extracted ink back into your bottle, and install the newly refilled cartridge.
I have two sets of cartridges, but they are both setup cartridges. I see in the video that the second set does not have an installation cartridge. Is this important? Can I achieve my goal with the Setup cartridge?
Setup cartridges can only be used in the printer that they came with. Therefore, if you really do have 2 Setup cartridge sets, they would have come from 2 different printers. The 1 set that came with this printer can be used, of course, but the other one will not be usable.
Hi, I have refilled the SETUP cartridges but I missed the step 5, refilled cartridges showed up as Depleted when inserted and now I get ''Used, Refilled or Counterfeit" in the app, without ink level. Also, the ink is dye-based and print quality is not very good so I'm gonna order pigment ink, what can I do next? 1. Should I remove the ink (that I put) from the SETUP cartridges and refill them with pigment ink and reinsert the same cartridges? 2. Should I fill my depleted 953XL cartridges with pigment ink and replace the SETUP ones, or something else?
Indeed, if you skip the priming step (step 5 in our video), the cartridges will be rejected. Dye-based ink is of course also not ideal. You really want to be using a pigment-based ink designed specifically for these printers. In any case, you must also never remove cartridges unless and until they are marked as "Depleted". As such, if your SETUP ones are in there now with the dye ink, removing them now will render them un-refillable in the future. Therefore, my recommendation would be to remove them and throw them away, and replace them with a brand-new set of cartridges. Once these cartridges go depleted (and just for the specific color that's depleted of course), you could take your spare 953XL, refill with pigment ink, and install.
I have bought some ink from you for 952XL cartridges to be used in an HP 8710 printer. After I remove a depleted cartridge and replace it with a refilled cartridge, I will then need to refill the depleted cartridge. Question 1). Do you have any recommendations on WHEN to refill a depleted cartridge? Should I refill it immediately and store it full ready for the next time that I'll need it, which might be 6 months in the future? Or should I store it in its depleted condition and not refill it until I need it, or shortly before? Background to Question 2) I have been caught a few times in the past by buying spare ink cartridges early and then not needed them until.about 12 months after I bought them, only to find that when I installed them 12 months later, they didn't work. It has just happened to me tonight. I had bought some refilled cartridges 13 months ago and when I needed the black one tonight it didn't work! The printer told me it was faulty and would not work. It was very frustrating. So, on to the question: Question 2) Suppose I remove a depleted cartridge (let's call it cartridge 1) and immediately replace it with a refilled one, cartridge 2. If I refill cartridge 1 soon after removing it, say in a few days to a week, can I then temporarily remove cartridge 2 and re-install the refilled cartridge 1 to check that it works, then remove cartridge 1 to store it until it is needed, and replace cartridge 2 back in the printer? This seems to me like a good way to test a refilled cartridge but it will violate twice the protocol step that you have given which tells me to never remove a cartridge until I get a "cartridge depleted" message. What would you advise? And for this scenario is your recommendation mild or strong? How important is it? Thank you.
1. There is no requirement on when your empty cartridge needs to be refilled. You may choose to fill only when it's time to reinstall, or you may choose to fill in advance to save time later, this is totally up to you! 2. Genuine HP cartridges, even if refilled, should always work, regardless of the length of time. Non-HP generic cartridges can be disabled by HP firmware updates. Every few months, HP will issue a software update to improve the printer's ability to detect non-HP cartridges and reject them with the "Cartridge Problem" message. Any generic cartridge manufactured before the time of the update but installed after the time of the update will not work. The industry is pretty quick at adapting to these updates, so within a few weeks, newly sold generic cartridges will work again, but any cartridge sold before the update will never work again. If you plan to use or refill non-HP generic cartridges, it is essential that you turn off automatic firmware updates on your HP printer. If you need assistance with that, please contact our tech support directly as you are our customer. Note that refilling genuine HP cartridges (using the protocol described in this video) will never be affected by firmware updates. To answer your main question, no, you should absolutely not test the cartridges in the manner you describe. This protocol as described in the video is absolutely essential, or else the printer will give you an "Impossible to Use" message with the refilled cartridges down the road. If you are refilling genuine HP cartridges, testing cartridges in advance is unnecessary, as the cartridges really should work. If a refilled genuine HP cartridge gives an error message, there is always a blatant reason (either the priming step was skipped for "Cartridge Depleted" or the refill protocol was not followed for "Impossible to Use"). If the cartridges you are refilling are generic non-HP cartridges, then a firmware update may have disabled them giving a "Cartridge Problem" error, but provided you have turned automatic updates, you'd be on the same firmware version now as you would be upon installation, so testing them in advance changes nothing.
This is simply the way these printers were programmed. The exact protocol as described in the video will allow the printer to accept your refilled cartridges. If the protocol is not followed, the cartridges may end up rejected with various error messages.
The adapter is included in our refill kit: www.inkowl.com/inkjet/ink-refill-kits/hp/pigmented-120ml-bulk-kit-for-hp-932-933-950-951-952-953-954-955-956-957-958-959-962-966-and-others/P5870/
my HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 ran out of 952 XL black so I replaced it with a remanufactured green box brand and evrything went smooth and we continued to print and we were getting low color ink messages and waiting for confirmation message to say depleted before replacing the color cartridges. Out of the blue we get the "remove and reinstall the indicated cartridge Black" I followed the instructions from this video to the T. Any help?
What is the exact error message for the black cartridge? If you are getting a "Cartridge Problem" message, then this relates to the actual cartridge chip, and you will need to deal with that with your remanufactured cartridge vendor, particularly if you've not yet refilled the black cartridge. If the error message is something else, you can let me know, and I'll be happy to give you my advice. Of course, you bought any products from InkOwl, you can contact us directly for support at info@inkowl.com
@@InkOwldotcom here's the message "remove and reinstall the indicated cartridge making sure it is correctly installed if this message continues to appear replace the indicated cartridge" and just before that error comes up it very wuickly flashes "non HP cartridge" so fast I cant read if there is anymore to the message. I havne't bought your refill kit yet was going to wait for the first set of color cartridges to be depleted.
Unfortunately, this is the way these HP printers were designed. If you refill and reuse the same cartridge, the printer will reject it with the "Impossible to Use Continuous Ink System" message. The only way to refill this series successfully is using the method of switching cartridges described in the video.
does it work for HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e printer? Did a search and some info says its firmware will not allow anything other than original hp cartridges, but this refill will be using hp cartridges so would it work?
Firmware updates can block non-HP generic cartridges, but they will not block the refilling of original HP cartridges. So, this technique still works. Of course, it's essential to NEVER remove cartridges from the printer until the printer forces you to with the message "Cartridge Depleted", and then, to always install a DIFFERENT, FULL cartridge in the place of the one you removed.
Unfortunately, this is the way that HP programmed these printers. If you just refill the same cartridge and put it in, it will be rejected with the "Impossible to Use Continuous Ink System" message. You absolutely must do the following: - Never remove any cartridge from the printer until it is marked as "Cartridge Depleted". Even so, remove just the color that is marked depleted, not all 4. - Always install a DIFFERENT and FULL cartridge in the place of the one you just removed. This new cartridge could be brand-new HP or it could be a refilled cartridge, but the important thing is that it have ink inside and not be the same out that was just taken out. The cartridge that was just taken out can be set aside for a future refill.
On this model, the printer would reject your refilled cartridges with an "Impossible to Use" message. It is mandatory to have multiple sets of cartridges to refill the HP 952/962 series successfully.
It is normal that the printer not display any ink level. This is not a problem since you need to print until the cartridge is fully depleted, in any case. Keep in mind that to refill this model successfully, you must never remove the cartridge from the printer unless it is marked as depleted. Then, and only then, remove the color indicated and install a different cartridge (refilled) in its place.
I'm not sure. The setup cartridges that come with the printer will work for sure. The setup cartridges that came with a different printer might not. Setup cartridges are permanently tied a specific machine. It would be best to use 1 set of setup cartridges and 1 set of store-bought #954 cartridges.
AND IF THE PRINTER ALREADY SHOWS THE MESSAGE THAT IT CAN NOT BE USED CONTINUOUS INK SYSTEM WITH THE INITIAL CARTRIDGES, WILL IT SERVE AFTER THE NEW CARTRIDGES IS SLOW? OR CAN NOT BE USED?
If the message is already displayed, then you have to get another ink cartridge in there right away. You need to use that ink cartridge until you get the message "Cartridge Depleted", then you can go back to the first set.
It is not necessary to replace the chips if you follow the protocol explained in the video. You need to own more than one set of cartridges. You need to leave the cartridges in the printer until the "Cartridge Depleted" message appears. At that time, you'll remove ONLY the color that is marked depleted, and you'll install a DIFFERENT, FILLED cartridge in its place. And then, continue in this manner, always installing alternate cartridges, never the same one twice in a row.
one question: why use 2 cartridges? I can remove the empty one, fill it with ink and put it back in the printer. also give me the link to buy the inks? thank you
Here is the link to our refill kit: www.inkowl.com/inkjet/ink-refill-kits/hp/pigmented-120ml-bulk-kit-for-hp-932-933-950-951-952-953-954-955-956-957-958-959-962-966-and-others/P5870/ It is mandatory to own at least 2 sets of cartridges. If you take a partly empty cartridge and fill it, it will work for a while, but eventually display error "Impossible to Use Continuous Ink System" and force you to replace it. If you take a fully empty cartridge and fill it, it will not be accepted at all.
Nice video! I have a question if the cartridge did not show the depleted message, but in some occasions that i need to clean the print-head clog manually. how do i do? thank you.
If ever you need to clean the printhead manually, you can just remove the entire printhead unit cartridges and on. See: support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04985129
@@InkOwldotcom thanks for your answer. I mean the printer may recognize this step (taking all of the printer head is the same like you take a cartridge without showing depleted message and impossible to use caution telling you don't use CISS system??)
Universal-type inks are normally dye-based for the colors, and this is not good in this model because all 4 colors are pigment-based on these printers. The mixture of pigment and dye ink in the cartridge and in the printhead unit can result in print quality issues.
Would this still work in 2020 with the HP 8710 - 952 cartridge with the method you mention in the video? I worry a firmware has been added by the High Price (HP) company to prevent this alteration of cartidges as well? It;s going to cost me almost $100 CAD to order this, so want to make sure it is going to work.
HP's firmware updates don't affect the ability to refill original HP cartridges. So long as you own 1 spare set of cartridges plus the ones currently in your printer, you can refill successfully.
There are two possible reasons for a refilled cartridge to show depleted: - You have reinstalled the cartridge you just removed. You must own a minimum of 2 cartridges of each color and you must alternate between them, so for example if your 1st yellow ran "depleted", you must now refill and install your 2nd yellow. You will save the 1st yellow for next time. - The other possible reason is that the priming step in the refill instructions was not done (2:27 to 2:53 in the video). If you bought these products from us and require support, do not hesitate to contact us directly.
Once a cartridge is depleted and the second set refilled, installed, and working, will the printer be able to read/estimate the ink levels, or not? If not, what will happen, error codes other problems? Thanks
Very important: once a cartridge is depleted, you must install the second cartridge, but only for that color. The printer will not read the ink levels and will warn you at installation that this is a Used Ink Cartridge, but other than that, no errors should occur.
@@InkOwldotcom Thank you. That is basically what happened to me, with an additional part where the printer warned I had installed a counterfeit ink cartridge. It's a refilled genuine HP cartridge. It works well, but no ink level shown, only a yellow warning triangle in an empty column. The counterfeit warning part worried me that it would freeze on me or something ominous. Thank you again.
Your prices are just as high as the replacement carts, how many times can this refill? I hardly use my printer and do I have to do the swapping method or can I just refill, let it sit, then reinstall.
You can refill indefinitely, but you absolutely do need to swap. When a cartridge reads "Depleted", refill and install your other cartridge, set your first cartridge aside for next time. If you refill the same cartridge over and over without swapping, the printer will reject the refilled cartridge with an "Impossible to Use Continuous Ink System" message.
I have a question about step 2: removing the internal ink bag 1:28 After following all the steps, there’s no mention of putting back the internal ink bag after refill. Do we just throw it out and not worry about it? Or do we actually need to insert it back as it was prior to step 2? Thanks
@@InkOwldotcom my logic says you only make under pressure by sucking out the air through refill hole so you can fill it with ink. since the bag inside is not ink bag but air bag (somebody wrote it here and i believe him because i have taken apart a counterfeit cartridge and i can confirm), if you wanted to suck the air out of bag then you had to use a different hole for it because the bag is not connected with space where ink is located and is accessible through different hole. so i dont believe the explanation is correct. but i might be wrong too. So i would appreciate some response what do you think
I understand the "rotation process"; but I was wondering what will happen if I removed ALL of the cartridges instead of just the "depleted one" and replaced them with 4 filled ones (non original HP)?? I am assuming nothing will occur- that is, until I tried to replace that filled set (or just one cartridge of it) with another non HP filled set (or individual cartridge) at that time I may get a system shut down status. But if I replaced them with original HP refilled cartridges, (or single cartridge) then nothing should happen; and then I could start all over again with the "normal" rotation system, this time replacing only the single cartridge that is depleted, regardless if is HP or not ----- Is this correct?
The error will happen when you attempt to use a refilled cartridge that was originally removed before depletion, you will get a "Impossible to Use Continuous Ink System" message. You must only refill cartridges that were fully depleted when originally removed. The easiest way to guarantee this is by only removing the single color that is affected whenever you get a "Depleted" message, never all 4.
You need 2 cartridges of each color because if you refill and use only 1, the printer will give you an error message "Cannot use refilled ink cartridges" and the cartridge will be disabled. Alternating between 2 cartridges as explained in the video is the only way to refill this printer successfully.
@@InkOwldotcom Hello there. Thnaks for the info. The 2nd set of cartridges needs to be also genuine ones? Or it's possible to use aftermarket cartridges? Thank you
Sorry, my printer is configured in Spanish and the message that appears is: the content of the hp cartridge has been exhausted. Use only this cartridge if you think it is not depleted. What should I do? change the cartridge now? Thank you
Why are you advising for second cartridges? We must be able to refill the current cartridges when they are used like 75%, what's the issue here that i am not able to understand?
If you refill cartridges before they are fully empty and you do not alternate as described in the video, the printer will eventually reject your refilled cartridge with the message "Impossible to Use Continuous Ink System". This is simply the way the printer was programmed and there is no way around it. If there existed a method to refill this printer without owning multiple cartridges, we would of course have endorsed that method instead!
Unfortunately, starter cartridges can only be used in the printer they came with. The printer won't accept a starter cartridge that was for another machine, even of the same model. You're right that these extra cartridges are expensive. However, the second set of cartridge doesn't have to be original HP, it can be a generic compatible set, it makes no difference. That being said, if you haven't bought this HP printer yet, you'd be better off looking for a model more conducive to refilling.
I would rather that my second set of cartridges was genuine HP as my experience with aftermarket cartridges is that they streak and generally print poorly. Is there a workaround so that I can use starter cartridges from another printer as my second set? By the way, I have a friend who did the above successfully so does this only apply to certain cartridge models?
Here is the product I would recommend for you: www.inkowl.com/inkjet/ink-refill-kits/hp/pigmented-120ml-bulk-kit-for-hp-932-933-950-951-952-953-954-955-956-957-958-959-962-966-and-others/P5870/
The refill protocol as described in the video needs to be followed closely, or else the printer will reject the refilled cartridges. Since you must wait for cartridges to empty before removing them, and since you cannot put the same cartridge back in that you just took out, you need to own at least 2 of each color, this way you can rotate them.
I am trying to understand a few things. These questions have been asked before but i did not understand the answer. Question 1 - Once I refill and insert my cartridge, the printer will show an error that it is not genuine ink or stuff like that. Now if the pages are still printing fine after that message, but the ink levels never show up correctly, how will i ever know when is the next time it gets depleted and needs refilling? Do i just guess or will the printer show when the refilled ink cartridge depletes again? Question 2 - Some folks mentioned trying to disable the printer cartridge id detector so that it will not detect that i reinstalled the same cartridge with refilled ink. This will prevent me from buying another $100 set of cartridges from HP. Do you know if this is possible and if there is a video on youtube showing us how to do that? In case it is not possible to disable read cartridge id, can i use a set of cartridges that i own that are not from HP but a third party ones? Thank you!
To answer your questions: 1. When the refilled cartridge is first installed, you will get a message that the cartridge is a used cartridge, but other than that, there are no error messages. The ink levels do not show up, but the "Cartridge Depleted" message will show up at the appropriate time (the printer has a sensor that detects when the ink flow is terminated). Since you must never remove cartridges from the printer unless depleted, simply print and print and print until you get the "Cartridge Depleted" message. 2. We've never heard of any kind of override to disable the ink cartridge chips or any of that. To our knowledge, the only way to refill these printers is to own at least 2 of each color cartridge, using each cartridge until depleted, and always installing a different cartridge than the one you just took out. It is possible to use and refill generic cartridges, and we also sell generic cartridges too, along with our refill ink.
Unfortunately, it is necessary to alternate between two cartridges of each color as done in the video, or else the printer will reject the refilled cartridge with a "Not designed to use continuous ink systems" message.
No, but you do need to follow the protocol mentioned in the video: Never removing cartridges unless depleted, always installing a different cartridge than the one you just removed.
Hi, this ink kit is available here: www.inkowl.com/inkjet/ink-refill-kits/hp/pigmented-120ml-bulk-kit-for-hp-932-933-950-951-952-953-954-955-956-957-958-959-962-966-and-others/P5870/
I have instructions to refill the hole in the middle with the ink I purchased, and not the exit port like you show in your video. They gave me a drill, and rubber plugs to seal the hole. Which is the correct way?
There are a couple of ways to do it, no one way is the right way. This is just the way that we developed and prefer, and this is how instruct our customers to do it, we provide them with the special tips that hermetically connect to the exit port. One thing is for sure, you have to follow the steps of waiting for cartridge #1 to be totally empty, then using cartridge #2 until it is totally emptied, and then refilling and using cartridge #1 until empty, then refilling and using cartridge #2 until empty, and so on and so forth.
two be more specific if 1 is deplited and i put 2 then take it off and put 1 again because i have two printers who use the same tipe of cartridge would this be okay
@@vaskosavevski8998 This will not work. Cartridges should only be removed from the printer when they say depleted. So, if #1 is depleted, you can put #2, but #2 must have been filled up to the appropriate capacity. But, you must not remove #2 until #2 is depleted. If you fail to do this, the printer will give error messages when you try to use your cartridge #1 again.
If you refill and reinstall the same cartridge, it will still show depleted, this is why you always need to alternate between 2 different cartridges. Additionally, if ever the priming step is skipped, the printer will also give this error message.
Are the factory cartridges refillable? I am in search of a new printer and the ones I am looking at all use the 952 cartridge but I noticed you do not have those particular cartridges available on your website.
The factory carts are refillable, following the instructions in the video. I would advise against these printers though. To refill them successfully, you absolutely need to own 2 sets of HP 952 cartridges! So, you have to buy not only a printer, but a second set of cartridges too, a very expensive proposition. I would recommend a Brother or Canon printer instead.
No, you need to alternate between 2 sets of cartridges to refill this printer. If you do not, the printer will give you a message "Impossible to use refilled cartridges".
Hello, I purchased your product and followed all directions. I am using the ink that came with the printer but I have 2 of them. They say "Instant Ink Ready" on both cartridges. After refilling the error message I get is: "Only one set of Instant Ink Ready cartridges can be used in a printer. Remove and replace with other cartridges." Do you know if there any way around this or maybe the Instant Ink Ready is not the normal starter ink?
Hmm.. Aren't the "Instant Ink Ready" cartridges the normal starters that come in the printer box? If that's the case, then indeed the printer will only accept the ones from its own box and a separate set of store-bought cartridges will be needed.
@@InkOwldotcom Both printers bought bran new 8610 and 8710 were both "Instant Ink Ready" which I found out the hard way means you don't get original cartridges you get the Instant Ink ones instead. That way they force you into buying Instant Ink or force you to buy more product to get your original product working. It's insane.
Hi, Really useful video and comments. I’m looking at buying Brother J6930DW; was planning on an Epsom, but noted your comments regarding cost of 2nd set of cartridges. Is it possible to refill Brother LC3317 (or LC3319) cartridges? If so, can you refill the original cartridge, or do you have to buy replacement refillable cartridges? Thanks
Hi, this video and the stuff about 2 cartridge sets being required does not apply to the MFC-J6930DW. However, that being said, the answer to your question is that no, you can't really refill the original Brother cartridge reliably, and so refillable cartridges are highly recommended, if not obligatory. Unfortunately, we don't carry the LC3317/3319 series cartridges for AUS/NZ, so you'd need to obtain them from a local source.
You can see the exact refill capacities at 2:21 in the video. Our standard kit includes 120mL of each color ink, but it's possible to order in whatever size you need based on how much you print and how often you will be refilling.
Will this work only with original ink cartridges or also with 3rd party ink cartridges? When swap the ink cartridges, the ink level will not show I assume.?!
You can refill both original or 3rd-party ink cartridges with this method, but original HP cartridges are definitely recommended. The ink level will not display on a refilled cartridge, but this doesn't matter anyways, since you absolutely need to leave the cartridge in the printer until it indicates "Cartridge Depleted". Only when a cartridge shows "Cartridge Depleted" should it be removed.
I noticed through reading the comments you Don't reccomend the purchase of the HP Office Jet Pro 8740 because the ink is not made to be refillable. Do you have a reccomendation for a printer that is similar and easy to refill?
Yeah, this series is expensive to refill because on top of buying the printer, it's mandatory to get a 2nd set of cartridges (see the video). BROTHER printers (ie: MFC-J4420DW) are generally the best for refilling and are much less expensive too.
You need to refill both cartridges and actually use both cartridges in sequence. So when cartridge #1 goes depleted, refill and use cartridge #2. Then, when it goes depleted, refill and use cartridge #1, and so on...
No, this does not work. You absolutely must follow the protocol as explained in the video. Do not remove a cartridge from the printer unless indicated as "Depleted". When depleted, remove only the affected color, and install a DIFFERENT and FULL cartridge in its place.
when you deplete one cartridge put a new one in, after that 2nd one is depleted then you start to refill each one back and forth without putting a new one but a refilled cartridge right?
That's correct, once your 2nd depletes, you'd use your 1st (refilled) until it depletes, and then your 2nd (refilled) until it depletes, and so on. The key is to never remove a cartridge unless it is marked "depleted", to remove that color only, and replace it with a different cartridge. So long as that's done, you can refill this printer indefinitely.
This video is not for that printer. Your printer uses the HP 45 and 78 ink cartridges. We don't have a video for those models, I'm afraid, but I'm sure you can find information on UA-cam.

Would it be cause a issue if I had 5 or more extra sets of cartridges on hand to switch to as long as I did it in order? Would I still have to wait until the installed cartridge shows empty to change it out?
It's not a problem. The important thing to remember: ALWAYS wait for the installed cartridges to show "Depleted" before removing them, and then install a DIFFERENT cartridge in its place. That's all you need to do.
Hi inkowl I am a helpless viewer from india as we in india dont have access to inkowl products i want to know can we use hp gt52 ink to refill the same cartidge of hp 955
I wouldn't recommend doing that, because the GT52 is a dye-based ink set while the HP 955 is pigment-based. We can ship to India, but of course with the pandemic, international shipping is very slow! That said, there are surely local companies who carry quality inks in India. The important thing is to make sure the ink is specifically formulated for your HP 955 cartridges.
You absolutely must follow the refill protocol precisely: - Never remove any cartridge unless it is marked as Depleted. - When marked as Depleted, remove only the affected color, and then install a DIFFERENT and FULL cartridge in its place to use. Set the removed cartridge aside for next time. If that protocol is properly followed, you can cycle and refill as many times as you want!

Hi Owl, thanks for the video, looks really interesting. I've just had my HP printer die on me and I have a lot (10 maybe!) of 950/951 cartridges, but my new printer takes 934/935. Is it possible to transfer the ink from the old ones to the new ones with your syringes?
HP 934/935 use the same ink as 950/951, so yes this can definitely be done. See our video here about our HP 934/935 refillable cartridges: ua-cam.com/video/mvkxorjvEjo/v-deo.html If you place an order with us for the 934/935 cartridges, give us a call or send us an email to request the special tips to suck the ink out of your 950/951 cartridges.
Hello, I have HP 8715. I have done what you have shown in the video. buy got this error message after refilled. "the printer is not designed to use continuous ink system". Is there any way to hack this?
You absolutely need to use two cartridges of each color, and to wait for the first cartridge to become "depleted" and show the (-) symbol before removing it to use the second cartridge. Then, once the second cartridge becomes "depleted", you can refill and reinstall your first one. This is the only way to prevent that error message. If that error message has happened, remove the refilled cartridges and install different ones and use those ones until they are "depleted".
@@kristopherbuchanan974 Don't know dude, The way he insisted(never replace untill it says empty), makes me believe it's on purpose to "trick" the printer it's not the same one...just saying...but don't go jumping to the conclusion it's okay just because you think that step is for "the printer not to feel empty".
Hello, I’ve been searching about cartridges for my HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 (bought last May 2021). While on other webs they offered no refill solution for 953 cartridges, the product description on this video does. So, could I use your refill pack with the starter cartridges that came with my printer (again the pro 7740) and another set for sure ?? I mean I live in Spain so I would have to pay for international shipping and taxes therefore I would rather be sure than sorry. Also, do you offer any warranty or policy in case there is any problem? Thank you in advance and nice video 👍🏼
This method absolutely works for HP 953 cartridges. You can certainly refill if you have your starter set plus a 2nd set. As explained in the video, you must: - Never remove any cartridge from the printer unless you get the message "Cartridge Depleted" (unsure of the exact wording in Spanish). However, if you can still print, then it is not yet depleted! When the cartridge is depleted, remove only the color that is marked as "Depleted", not all 4. - Always install a DIFFERENT and FULL cartridge in the place of the one you just removed. You cannot refill and install the same cartridge you just removed, you must install a different one. Once installed, leave it and use it up naturally. Your first cartridge can be set aside for a future refill. We do offer a 30-day satisfaction guarantee on our inks. However, returning the products from Spain may be a bit tricky. That said, so long as the refill protocol above is followed precisely, the refills will be accepted. Worst case, if a mistake is made and the printer rejects the cartridge, the ink can still be recovered for use next time.
Hello there! You don't need to modify the printer in any way, but you do need to own 2 sets of cartridges and exchange them as explained in the video if you wish to refill this model.
Using 2 cartridges is 100% secure that the printer will not kill the cartridges? And the printer will accept the refilled cartridges everytime I refill them? Please answer my question. I want to buy a printer that uses this kind of cartridges.
Yes, this is correct. The printer will always accept refilled cartridges, so long as you use 2 sets in alternation, as described in the video. However, I warn you that purchasing this printer and then a 2nd set of cartridges is very expensive! You would save a lot of money by simply buying a printer that can be refilled without restrictions.
inkowl.com Yes it is. But I need it because I need to copy legal size. Adf is not an option to me. Thank you so much! Is there a way to buy this refill kit? Im from México.
Yes, you can order from Mexico right on www.inkowl.com Shipping charge will be $12.95, but please be aware the order will be shipped with the US Post, and may take several weeks to arrive. You may also need to pay the IVA tax upon arrival.
Setting inside hp printers. Find memory and turn off the setting that tells the printer to remember past ink.
What is the make/brand of the Syringe?
I tried but still my printer 8210 says the cartridge is depleted, any guess how can I reset it ?
Just a point for clarification. The bag inside the ink cartridge does not hold ink. It holds air. The air bag expands to help push the ink out.
really? wow this was the information i was looking for! i have taken apart one counterfeit cartridge and i was wondering how in the hell it could work. the hole which is connected to the printhead was a different hole from which was connected to the bag inside. and i was also wondering how the hell could the ink escape the bag. it was a real mistery because i have read words like "ink bag inside cartridge" so i have automatically thought that it holds ink. now it is clear. thank you

Correct, refill your originals and keep them aside! You must only replace the colors that are "depleted" and only when they become depleted.

if you plz. some companies offer cartidges without chips, what they are used for? thank you in advance
I want to refill 953xl but I am failing. I am in South Africa.
Just fyi... If by chance you only have one cartridge or you pull it out before it is done and says that is depleted, it takes a few moments of your time but you can go into the settings of the printer itself and turn off the setting that tells it to remember the last cartridge
How could I do this?
Another channel suggests using a large syringe (100ml) and pulling on the syringe with ink in it (creating a vacuum) instead of pushing down. I had a little accident while using overpressure if you get what i mean.

Yes, the method as described in the video will work.
I was told for the 963, the printer has a memory for too many cartridges, making them useless if the depleted message was displayed.
For 963 cartridges, you need to follow the refill protocol as follows:
- Never remove any cartridge unless it's marked as "Depleted".
Thank you!
To answer your questions:
The ink levels are not displayed when using refilled cartridges.
Thank you, very helpful! God bless you!
where can i obtain the little plastic adaptor that you add onto the syring?? this is the only thing I need - I have everything else

It is compatible with officerJet pro7720 printer HP953? If yes how I will find all the kit include the ink?
So, on to the question:
Question 2) Suppose I remove a depleted cartridge (let's call it cartridge 1) and immediately replace it with a refilled one, cartridge 2.
Hi.Great Video and great advice.may I ask why the rotate between 2 cartridges is a necessity please
This is simply the way these printers were programmed. The exact protocol as described in the video will allow the printer to accept your refilled cartridges. If the protocol is not followed, the cartridges may end up rejected with various error messages.

why do I need an alternative cartridge? why can not I just refill the original one? is there a reason?
Unfortunately, this is the way these HP printers were designed. If you refill and reuse the same cartridge, the printer will reject it with the "Impossible to Use Continuous Ink System" message. The only way to refill this series successfully is using the method of switching cartridges described in the video.
Can you do the video how to refill 766. Thanks

does it work for HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e printer? Did a search and some info says its firmware will not allow anything other than original hp cartridges, but this refill will be using hp cartridges so would it work?
Firmware updates can block non-HP generic cartridges, but they will not block the refilling of original HP cartridges.
So, this technique still works. Of course, it's essential to NEVER remove cartridges from the printer until the printer forces you to with the message "Cartridge Depleted", and then, to always install a DIFFERENT, FULL cartridge in the place of the one you removed.
Hi Owl, I don't understand why it needs two cartridges for this to work. Can I just refill an empty cartridge and then put it back to the printer?
Unfortunately, this is the way that HP programmed these printers. If you just refill the same cartridge and put it in, it will be rejected with the "Impossible to Use Continuous Ink System" message.
You absolutely must do the following:
- Never remove any cartridge from the printer until it is marked as "Cartridge Depleted".
Does this work for 962 cartridges ?
Yes, the HP 962 is refilled exactly the same
I have just one cartridge set can't I just remove, refill and put back?
On this model, the printer would reject your refilled cartridges with an "Impossible to Use" message. It is mandatory to have multiple sets of cartridges to refill the HP 952/962 series successfully.

It is normal that the printer not display any ink level. This is not a problem since you need to print until the cartridge is fully depleted, in any case.
Keep in mind that to refill this model successfully, you must never remove the cartridge from the printer unless it is marked as depleted. Then, and only then, remove the color indicated and install a different cartridge (refilled) in its place.
@@InkOwldotcom ok but how I'm gonna know the cartridge is depleted? The normal message of empty cartridge will show up anyway?
does the ink get into the foil ink bag inside cartridge or just inside the plastic case of cartridge?
Is it possible to do it with 2 sets of setup cartridges ?, have never been used in another printer,
Is the hp 8720, cartridges 954 bought in mexico
Please let me know if I need to replace the cardridge chip? I was told by a refill service that chip needs to be replaced only done by OME?
It is not necessary to replace the chips if you follow the protocol explained in the video. You need to own more than one set of cartridges. You need to leave the cartridges in the printer until the "Cartridge Depleted" message appears. At that time, you'll remove ONLY the color that is marked depleted, and you'll install a DIFFERENT, FILLED cartridge in its place. And then, continue in this manner, always installing alternate cartridges, never the same one twice in a row.
one question: why use 2 cartridges? I can remove the empty one, fill it with ink and put it back in the printer. also give me the link to buy the inks? thank you
Here is the link to our refill kit: www.inkowl.com/inkjet/ink-refill-kits/hp/pigmented-120ml-bulk-kit-for-hp-932-933-950-951-952-953-954-955-956-957-958-959-962-966-and-others/P5870/
It is mandatory to own at least 2 sets of cartridges. If you take a partly empty cartridge and fill it, it will work for a while, but eventually display error "Impossible to Use Continuous Ink System" and force you to replace it. If you take a fully empty cartridge and fill it, it will not be accepted at all.
It’s a scam, essentially. Useless verification buggery.
A question pls, How will using universal ink be detrimental here?
I am in Ghana how can I get the refilling kits
Hi why after refill the system says it is still depleted? Thanks
There are two possible reasons for a refilled cartridge to show depleted:
- You have reinstalled the cartridge you just removed.
Can i use pigment ink on this printer
This printer only uses pigment inks
@@InkOwldotcom thank you
Your prices are just as high as the replacement carts, how many times can this refill? I hardly use my printer and do I have to do the swapping method or can I just refill, let it sit, then reinstall.
You can refill indefinitely, but you absolutely do need to swap. When a cartridge reads "Depleted", refill and install your other cartridge, set your first cartridge aside for next time.
If you refill the same cartridge over and over without swapping, the printer will reject the refilled cartridge with an "Impossible to Use Continuous Ink System" message.
I have a question about step 2: removing the internal ink bag 1:28
After following all the steps, there’s no mention of putting back the internal ink bag after refill.
Do we just throw it out and not worry about it? Or do we actually need to insert it back as it was prior to step 2?
Thanks
In step 2, we're not actually removing the bag, we're simply emptying it with the syringe to make room for the ink that we will soon inject.
Ahh, thanks for the prompt reply. Will be buying the kit from your site!
Love the content, and love the details in explanations. Thank you!
How to I store the syringe for the next use? do I rinse it with water/acetone or do I leave be until the next time? Please help! Thank you very much!
You'll want to rinse the syringe out with water and then let it dry completely. Once dried completely, it is safe to re-use again with ink.
Does the system work with 2 setup cartridges of each color?
Is the reason we need 2 cartridges to prevent damage to the printer?
Thank you
Mi printer is hp 7740
No, you can use the cartridge, if you refilled it.
I’m having huge issues… my hp won’t accept refilled cartridges, any ideas?
What is the specific error message you get?
Why are you advising for second cartridges? We must be able to refill the current cartridges when they are used like 75%, what's the issue here that i am not able to understand?
If you refill cartridges before they are fully empty and you do not alternate as described in the video, the printer will eventually reject your refilled cartridge with the message "Impossible to Use Continuous Ink System". This is simply the way the printer was programmed and there is no way around it.
If there existed a method to refill this printer without owning multiple cartridges, we would of course have endorsed that method instead!
@@InkOwldotcom thanks for the tip and reply, is there any screen shot for that which may have happened before ?
ok thanks, a google search helped with that .
Can BOTH cartridges be starter cartridges? I hate to say it but it is cheaper just to buy a second printer than a set of second cartridges.
@@InkOwldotcom Thanks. Why do you say this model not conducive to refilling? Your video makes it look so easy!

HP955 cartridge how can we buy that injected with nossle thing? is that the package with the inkowl store?
why do we need 2 cardriges if we can refill them?
The refill protocol as described in the video needs to be followed closely, or else the printer will reject the refilled cartridges.
Since you must wait for cartridges to empty before removing them, and since you cannot put the same cartridge back in that you just took out, you need to own at least 2 of each color, this way you can rotate them.
what is the name/size of the syringe.
hello.thanks a lot for your video, does this method work on the hp 7740?
Yes it does
I am trying to understand a few things.
Thank you!
To answer your questions:
@@InkOwldotcom thank you
Why do you need two? Why cant you just refill the cartridge and put it back in when full?
Unfortunately, it is necessary to alternate between two cartridges of each color as done in the video, or else the printer will reject the refilled cartridge with a "Not designed to use continuous ink systems" message.
Need reseter for refill?
No, but you do need to follow the protocol mentioned in the video: Never removing cartridges unless depleted, always installing a different cartridge than the one you just removed.
You didn't give a link as to where to buy this brand of ink.

Thank you very much for letting me know!
Can we alternate between a set of setup cartridge and a set of XL cartridges? for HP Officejet Pro 7740
Yes, that is fine. Keep in mind, always remove and replace only the color that is marked as depleted, not the whole set.
Hi, I wonder if you were able to unlock the 8710 printer? How did you do it? Or have you got the ful cartridges (COMPATIBLE)?
THANK YOU.
can i use one set for reset then reinsert the depleted cartridge
two be more specific if 1 is deplited and i put 2 then take it off and put 1 again because i have two printers who use the same tipe of cartridge would this be okay
Do you sell them in INDIA ?
does this work for hp office jet pro 7740 with 953xl cartridges
Yes the method as described in the video will work
Thank you, the best video ever. Will it works with HP 9025 please ?
Still showing depleted after Refilling, any news?
Dose this work with HP office Jet pro 8740? 8740 accept refill cartridge? if yes, all i need is buying a second set of cartridge is that right?
If i have only 1 set , can i still refill and reset the printer ?
Hi can this refill method work for hp9010 with 965xl cartridge ?
Yes, the refill method is exactly the same for this model
Hi,
Really useful video and comments.
Is that 40ml added to the cartridge. How many times can you refill the cartridge with one refill tank
@@InkOwldotcom THANK YOU VERY MUCH. will try and write a review...thanks again.
Can i refill dye ink in this or Espon pigment ink in this Cartridges?
You should only be using pigment ink that's specifically formulated for HP printers! Using any other ink type can damage the printer.
Do you have any suppliers in India?
I noticed through reading the comments you Don't reccomend the purchase of the HP Office Jet Pro 8740 because the ink is not made to be refillable. Do you have a reccomendation for a printer that is similar and easy to refill?
Yeah, this series is expensive to refill because on top of buying the printer, it's mandatory to get a 2nd set of cartridges (see the video). BROTHER printers (ie: MFC-J4420DW) are generally the best for refilling and are much less expensive too.
the demo cartridges can be refilled ??
Yes, it is possible to refill Setup cartridges as well, following the protocol specified in the video to alternate cartridges of course.
Should we be refilling both, or is one of the cartridges just supposed to be used as a placeholder?
You need to refill both cartridges and actually use both cartridges in sequence.
So when cartridge #1 goes depleted, refill and use cartridge #2. Then, when it goes depleted, refill and use cartridge #1, and so on...
My Cartridge is 953 will it also work if I refill it before it's depleted
@@InkOwldotcom

Would it be cause a issue if I had 5 or more extra sets of cartridges on hand to switch to as long as I did it in order? Would I still have to wait until the installed cartridge shows empty to change it out?
It's not a problem. The important thing to remember: ALWAYS wait for the installed cartridges to show "Depleted" before removing them, and then install a DIFFERENT cartridge in its place. That's all you need to do.
Hi inkowl
I am a helpless viewer from india as we in india dont have access to inkowl products i want to know can we use hp gt52 ink to refill the same cartidge of hp 955
@@InkOwldotcom can you please suggest me the indian company

You absolutely must follow the refill protocol precisely:
- Never remove any cartridge unless it is marked as Depleted.
- When marked as Depleted, remove only the affected color, and then install a DIFFERENT and FULL cartridge in its place to use. Set the removed cartridge aside for next time.
If that protocol is properly followed, you can cycle and refill as many times as you want!

So even after I refilled my one set, which isn't getting recognized as full, I still have to buy another set?
No need for the second set. The guy is just dramatic... As if the printer cant be without a cartridge for 3 minutes.
As explained in the video, you must:
- Never remove any cartridge from the printer unless you get the message "Cartridge Depleted" (unsure of the exact wording in Spanish).
Hi, how are you? you have to make some modification to the printer or you just have to exchange the set of the two cartridges.
Greetings.

Yes, you can order from Mexico right on www.inkowl.com

After doing this type of refill over 1000 times, I find that the printer kills a cartridge after 10-30 refills. Sometimes less, sometimes more.
