- The EU is thought to have lost more than €10 billion to fraud over the last two decades and yet its antifraud and corruption agencies have long lacked the teeth to root out the problem. Could that be about to change? HARDtalk’s Stephen Sackur speaks to Romanian Laura Codruţa Kövesi, the EU’s first public prosecutor. She has enhanced powers to tackle transnational crime. But if member states refuse to play ball, how can she succeed?
Is it me or BBC is trying to discourage the full concept of EU Prosecutor Office?
Not even one single question was constructive and positive. All of the questions were against the full concept. Maybe BBC is jealous that soon they are out of EU and I feel their frustration in the whole interview.
Very good job Laura Kövesi! She needs to build an entire full European program against corruption and against bad guys and it's not an easy job.
I am confident that things are going to change in good. There is the new generation coming, with less hunger of money and more motivation to do things fairly.
Keep your heads up, brothers! Together we will succeed to do good and have indeed a clean Europe!

Also, she managed cases of a lot of unworthy people from Romania so from this point of view she made a difference in good.
The political power influence will always be present; it is more a question of who is doing more harm to the people and who is doing less.
I see her work as having a more positive impact rather than other political powers who's only interest is their personal fortune.
There is a whole concept behind and you together with others should think more on a long term, not only punctual.
That's the typical format of BBC in general and this show in particular, everything with different views than the mainstream western opinion is bad. They enjoy doing character assassination and personal smearing. Search for the interview with the Hungarian foreign minister from couple of years ago or the Jordan Peterson interview with the host fully displayed stupidity and ferocity.

Whoever questions Stephen's methods should remember that this is hardtalk, and this is the way it's supposed to be.
Tariceanu is, was and will be a joke. It's like saying "a youtube commenter said that you suck, how do you explain that?". But this particular commenter is a high-profile, high-visibility, multiple times presidency candidate and is currently under criminal investigation.
And, finally - she fought against the most powerful people in the country and even brought some of them down. Of course the government hated her. That's why another notoriously corrupt widely-hated figure arranged for her dismissal. That particular notorious figure was then dismissed himself.

I am a Romanian. The interview wasnt constructive. I saw a bully, aggressive journalist with a Romanian. She is not a native speaker, but she handled the situation, she explained in plain English her plans and how the office will work. I truly advise the journalist not to bring into an interview just some particular opinions (especially of the ones pertaining to the politicians involved in all sort of criminal investigations), to have a better picture next time and to adjust his speech with a non native speaker, if needed. BBC stop asking yourself why we have switched to Netflix .....

I feel like this program focuses too much on personally attacking whoever is interviewed (not just LCK) and too little of providing useful information. Thus I shall endeavor to provide some much needed context to the 3 main parts of the interview.
1) "Why have you not done much in the past 10 months?" -> EPPO is a NEW European institution. This isn't just a matter of taking over an already established role and team and prosecuting people. LCK is tasked with de facto BUILDING this institution, centralizing knowledge, creating procedures, etc. etc. Most of all, she needs to create a capable team involving prosecutors from each of the 22 participating member states, which is a very difficult and time consuming task.
2) Poorly informed personal attacks against LCK -> Quoting one of the most moronic PM's that Romania ever had (and there is serious competition for the role) who was himself investigated by DNA under Codruta Kovesi in an investigation that lead to the conviction of pretty much everyone else involved (Sorin Ovidiu Vantu bribery case that saw him and Bogdan Olteanu go to jail) and also had another corruption investigation into him blocked by Parliament (which is probably why he's doing his utmost to remain a senator, so as to prolong his immunity from the law) is really bad form. If the host had looked into things a bit more he would have found that our Constitutional Court, which is not a court of law but rather a political court that currently is lead by a former communist prosecutor, has taken it upon itself to exceed its constitutional mandate (which is to declare whether something is constitutional or not and explain that decision). This Constitutional Court has ORDERED our President to fire LCK and in the process REVERSED changes made to our Constitution which we had to undergo to join the EU (regarding the independence of magistrate appointments from political interference). Frankly, had I been President I would have told them go to screw themselves. Instead, in the interest of not creating a massive constitutional crisis and being bound by his own promise as well, President Iohannis just went along with it (in a rather cowardly fashion, announcing the decision via press secretary instead of in person) and now here we are.
3) "Why do you think countries like Hungary, Poland, etc. might be keen to opt out of EPPO" -> LCK answers by saying this is a political decision and that she cannot comment. Obviously it's clear that Hungary and Poland would not like their politicians to be investigated for corruption by a European body and since they're already the bad boys of the EU they've opted out of this body. LCK cannot say this directly because she needs to find some sort of way to work with these member states as well.

The civilised world has a law system, this is the backbone of our civilisation. You gather evidence, but you don't break the law when doing this. You break the law, the evidence is not valid. In point of fact a multinational commission of prosecutors and magistrates ( eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/PDF/?uri=CELEX:32018D1275&qid=1541573607072&from=EN ) scored the candidates and gave LCK the highest score based on pure professional achievements. She then also won in the CONT and LIBE commissions of the European Parliament with only the European Council being apprehensive about her candidacy due to entreaties made by the Romanian government at the time. Basescu was President of Romania from 2004 to 2014. He named Kovesi as anti-corruption head prosecutor and Coldea as general of secret services.
Basescu was recorded after leaving office while explaining how Kovesi + Coldea and the system work + how they broke the news to him that they will remove Mustata (a judge not willing to "cooperate") from the court formation in order to get the sentence they want in a case (Voiculescu).

But not only the President that created Kovesi and Coldea is saying they are acting like mobsters and a deep state, there's more evidence of their illegal behaviour.
Kovesi's prosecutors got about 2 months mandate to listen to prime minister Tariceanu, 24/7, labeling him a national security threat. Nothing suspicious was gathered, so that should have been the end of it.
Well no, because judges prolonged that mandate over and over, one of them motivating the decision by saying "the previous term was approved so there's a precedent" (like: if that guy did it before me, must be right). They ended up tap wiring house, office, calls, following him around in traffic to see who he meets. They've done that 7 YEARS. Every day. Found nothing on him.

That's why the anchor asks about the involvement of Secret Services. Plus Kovesi's agency and the secret services signed an illegal protocol, through which secret services were to be informed on progress of the cases and any new evidence, then made the document secret.
Judges that were not willing to do as Kovesi and Services wanted, were eliminated.
Husband and wife judges (Birsan family) were on trial for 7 years during which they were suspended from their duties. The man was actually working at ECHR (european court for human rights) at the moment, while the wife was working in the county's courts and she was the main target.
Ultimately they managed to prove they were NOT guilty.
Judge Mustata mentioned in the beginning, was sick of cancer and some kidney illnesses that required dialysis. He started feeling sick one night in prison and they suddenly decided to switch him to a different prison, meaning a long ride in a prison van with no doctor to attend. Then for some reason, he sent back the same night.
He was eventually transported to a civilian hospital, but was too late. He died due to lack of care.
Mayor of Ramnicu Valcea (Gutau) was sentenced to 3 years in prison. He served them all. ECHR (European Court of Human rights) confirmed he was wrongfully sentenced.
They sentenced a Minister to jail for he was handed a pork specialty in a bag by someone. That was a setup and the pork specialty was the "bribe" in exchange for which the prosecutors said the politicians was willing to assign a big contract to dunno what company. He got years for that, served one.
More where that came from, but honestly unlike the anchor, I believe the ones running Europe knew full well what's happening and they will not be "shocked" to see it happen again in Europe. That's why they got Kovesi there.

I must say that the reporter passed to some more pertinent questions in the second half of the interview. Unfortunately, Ms Kovesi could only provide some very theoretical and wishful answers. Let's see what this EPO is capable of doing. If The EC and the EP have served correctly the law and not encourage the "smart guys" in all the sectors, which now dictate the law under the pressure of lobbying, maybe there would not have been any need to create the EPO institution. And no, this is not to say that if one has a critical approach is anti-EU, it is just to say that we see what happens.

Fiți serioși,este doar o unealta a sistemului...i.am adus la cunoștință faptul că o judecătoare a sustras o expertiză medico legala din dosarul 10429/182/2012,la care face referire stimata judecătoare in doua încheieri de sedinta...iar seniorita Laura zice că trebuie să depun o plângere penală..adică eu le fac sesizare la DNA și ei nu numai că nu iau nici o măsură ci o și acoperă pe judecătoarea care a sustras acte dintr.un dosar..îmi spun că trebuie să depun plângere penală conform legii,da oare de ce nu s.au autosesizat,că doar asta le este meseria...toate bune,mă condamna doamna judecătoare la 2 ani de închisoare cu suspendare plus plata a 45.000 de lei daune morale..ajung la Cluj la apel ,le spun că lipsesc acte din dosar le arat dovada și surpriza mai majorează daunele morale la 75.000 de lei,pt că stimatele judecătoare din acest dosar s.au enervat că am avut curaj să le zic adevărul..și toate astea pt că l.am denunțat pe Mihăilă ioan,cunoscut că patronul indagrara arad,că a făcut o fabrică de euro falși in Oradea...le aduc dovezi ..o înregistrarea audio in care șoferul lui spune clar că a dus aparatele de printat in Oradea,că șeful lui l.a trimis să ducă mașini dibuite de euro falși in comunitatea europeana..etc..mai zică că șeful lui a trecut un cetățean ucrainean in portbagajul autoturismului personal,din Ungaria în Romania...senior Mihăilă ioan zis și utu este arestat în Italia având asupra lui sume mari de euro falsi,dar în Romania nimenea nu mă întreba nimic de ce știu eu..

The BBC Interviewer asked 3 times why five EU States refused to cooperate with the EUPP headed by
Mrs Kovesi. Each time she avoided a direct honest answer and like a robot she was repeating something

like bla, bla, bla respecting legislation and constitution ' as she brilliantly done ' in Romania. actually from where she was forced out of office with the Presidential approval.
Following her departure a superior investigative body was formed and

Prosecutors (PP) close to Her, from
Ploiesti County were investigated and arrested. The process of investigation and persecution would
continue in every PP county office.
The allegations of abuse of power in a Public Offce, corruption, traffic of influence, breaking the country Constitution Laws, false in documents, blackmailing the members and relatives and friends of the targeted persons , with false accusations in order obtain false declarations of the targeted persons,
