  • Monthly test of the Jackson County siren system. This newish-130 was installed back in the summer of 2022 and replaced the Sterling that sits upon the fire station which you see at the end of the video. You can also hear my relief at the end of the video as I didn't expect it to go since it hadn't changed positions and Jackson county has a history of 2001s not working properly. Jackson county tests first Saturday of every month at 12 and has mostly 2001s with one Thunderbeam and one Thunderbolt.

Speaking of Jackson County’s siren having problems. Back on 12/2/23 I filmed a 2001-130 in Waterloo Township and it sounded pretty sick.

My experiences with Jackson have been pretty good, last time I was there I was there to see an SRN that was by the water tower before I went to see Marshall’s thunderbolt. Glad something worked for ya.

We’ve always had pretty good luck in Jackson as well, but have heard through the grapevine that some of their 2001s had issues. Not sure if you knew this, but recently (past couple months or so) they did a radio upgrade. All sirens now have aftermarket radios made by Tele-Rad as part of a P25 network. Ever since the upgrade, the sirens have had much better reliability. Really weird system and the first of its kind in the state. More videos to come from Jackson featuring the upgrade

@@WarningSirensOfMichiana anything on the thunderbolt anybody should expect since its previous update?
      Short Recap:
Last video of it has shown the blower not functioning as of early 2023. I’ve emailed the city with no response, so I’m curious with how it’s been doing.

I've never understood why the 130's back is taller then any of the other generations

I think it's to allow more airflow intake so the siren can "breath" easier and therefore be louder.

@@personperson2319 Makes sense, but I've been to a First Generation 2001 [RoundBack] and a 130 [WithoutEarProtection] And they both sound the same, no quiter, no louder

The tube that contains the wiring and rings, as well as a support hampered the intake of air on older models. The housing was made taller so the chopper is above the tube, and the support was removed.

@@SirenRecordingsofIowa there’s a difference, its just not a “Big” difference. But I’ve noticed 130s to being louder. But I also find that the Roundback design also helped during it’s time back in the late 80s when the 2001 was first introduced.
Though I don’t risk damaging my hearing, I can tell the difference between each siren’s air pressure difference when it hits your body and the ground.
