The RUS mapping includes the military projection capability. That means any targets within their mapping can be impacted with variety of equipments. That can be used during negotiations over land control.

As a graduate of the internet military academy I think the Russians will clear out the big salient south of the main Pokrovst area first. This would open access to a highway for logistics and demoralize ukraine a bit. Just my own thoughts.

Its a grey zone - but not objective confirmation. So its not captured.

Even if Russia wins, technically they lose because they didn't do this 2 years ago. Also even if they take Pokrovsk they're using human waves and taking losses at a 20:1 ratio due to superior western wonder technology so it'll be a pyrrhic victory which is technically a loss. Also after they take Pokrovsk it won't be important anymore since it's destroyed so technically Russia loses again.
They just can't stop losing. Eventually they'll rout and retreat all the way to the Dnieper.
