I also like using washers to weld on. You can grab them with a slide hammer hook or even put a screwdriver through them and use your hands on both sides to pry the dent. In severe cases I've even put a ratchet strap to a point on a branch on a tree or anything sturdy overhead. Put a little tension on the ratchet strap and use the body Hammer to hit down the high spots as you pull up on the dent. Actually works pretty good.
I'm also not a body man, sprayed thousands of gallons of paint, used to do sandblasting and painting. Anyway from the little body work I know I think you need to shrink that metal, welding on it will shrink it some. If you don't shrink a dent it'll want to just go back where it was. Never tried a shrinking disk but that might've worked great here. Otherwise you can shrink with a torch.

Paintless dent removal is a good option, those guys are magicians sometimes. My budget does not allow for a professionals help, so my hackery is all I get! LOL!
I have seen it done many times when I worked at a used car dealership, these guys are magicians for sure! The tools aren't too complicated, most are just different length rods with about 1.5 inch 90* bend on the end, very similar looking to to a lock out kit that locksmiths use to open cars when keys get locked in, also smaller body hammers with wooden or plastic punch used near the end to finish the removal. The complicated part is using them correctly. I talked with them on several occasions and they said they take a straight deck lid and put it on a table, then they take a ball-peen hammer and simulate hail damage on it, and this was what they practiced on until they could do it. lol@@spacecat7247

You can use a punch around an oilcan dent to stretch the metal flat again.

I’ve heard of the shrinking disks, I have yet to try one. I’ll see what I can find because the roof is just as bad if not worse.
