An honest character in a rush down game... only started playing 3 days ago and I already get why people say Ryu isn’t good. I’m gonna stick with him though. He’s the main character still and I’ve always started every game by playing Ryu. Winning with fundamentals feels really good.
Thanks for the video. Coming from only really playing Super Turbo its a crazy world out there where everyone can just go through fireballs and wakeup DP's getting stuffed is very confusing.
This has been the best guide I've watched in terms of a holistic explanation of ryu's neutral... could you make an updated one for this season tho... the force stand into medium tatsu is soo good and gives oki but it's just alot to take in
I'm glad I could keep things understandable :) By the zigzag inputs you mean like for the Shoryuken? That's forward, then down, then down-forward + button. A backwards zigzag is: back, then down, then down-back + button. It's not a smooth motion to execute, so if you have trouble just start off slowly inputting the command, even if the move doesn't come out at first. You'll get more used to it, and do it faster and faster until the move starts actually coming out. Eventually you won't have to even think about it anymore. This is a tangent but I remember the first time I saw the zig-zag in the command list back in Marvel vs Capcom 2. I had no idea what Capcom wanted me to do either, haha.
Basically mid Shoryuken is the only one invincible to aerial attacks (including jumping attacks). To give more complete information: light Shoryuken is invincible only against throws, medium Shoryuken is invincible only against aerial attacks, heavy Shoryuken is invincible against attacks and projectiles ONLY between frames 3 and 6. So heavy DP is hard to use for its invincibility. EX-Shoryuken is fully invincible. You can use light or heavy Shoryuken and it works most times, but certain jump moves with REALLY good hitboxes (like Balrog, Ken, and Bison's jumping Heavy Punches) can hit you. Mid Shoryuken and EX-Shoryuken will consistently beat these and other jump moves.
@Goushinnso Memento From my understanding, yes. It affects Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Cammy, and Juri according to patch notes from a few years ago. Idk for sure about anyone else but there are probably other characters like this too.
Hey I’m new to the game and I came because I’m really suffering at doing a shoryuken out of a crouching HP (especially when the game decides to turn it into a CA)...need to get it down for a Challenge (7th one of Ryu’s).
Yep, these all should still work. The timing on linking the moves together can be tricky. You probably have to press the next attack button a little earlier than you currently are doing. It's quite a small window (within 3 frames out of 60 in a second), so it can be tough. It's almost like figuring out the rhythm of the combo. You'll definitely get it with practice. You just need to experiment a little to find that perfect timing, and then practice that. Eventually you'll barely have to think about it at all, your muscle memory will do it for you. I should have mentioned this in my video, but you can always use the target combo (Standing Medium Punch -> Standing Heavy Punch -> Standing Heavy Kick), if learning the combos I showed is frustrating or takes too much time. The target combo doesn't require strict timing, you just press the next button as the current attack hits. It'll let you get to playing the game right away. Whichever option lets you enjoy the game more is all that matters :)
I know this is a late response, but: j.MK has a better damage combo, while j.LK has a better hitbox/hurtbox. So j.MK might get beat out by weird stuff like jabs or just walking out of the way. j.LK doesn't have that problem (as much, although it can still happen).
Oh man... Your character knowledge is very basic, I don't think you main the character. If someone want to start playing as ryu, I would say follow mdz Jimmy instead, the man knows what he is talking about there and give you a more in depth knowledge training.
Yep! I agree, this video is very basic. That's the purpose of this video. I also agree that you should follow mdz Jimmy if you want in-depth stuff on Ryu. I watch him too, he's a great guy :)
hey man just started playing and this is a really cool vid for someone like me who is new to street fighter! thanks !
Glad I could help! Thanks for the kind words

your explanation with loud music in the background: you’re an artist
Just started trying the game out today and it feels great your guide is really good for new beginners like me keep it up man
This was perfect
Thank you, glad it was useful :)
Yo, that backdash to bait the throw was sick.
Thanks man i just picked up the game since it's free on ps+ this month. Kinda hard for a tekken player like me imo
True
Ay man thanks for watching. Don't worry you'll figure it out. I came from Tekken when I started too :)
Yoo I'm same boat as you. I'm a Tekken player learning street fighter coz it's free.
Same lmao PS+ and im also playing Tekken 7
Great job explaining, with clip examples man. Good stuff
Your 100th sub is here thanks for the help.
Just bought it on pc, god bless you bro, this would help me so much!
I really needed this man!! Ty
Glad to have helped 👍

🤘
Great video - super helpful info.
Great video, but you really should turn down the background music a little bit. It is the same volume of your voice, if not louder.
Can't say I've seen a video that puts it in an easier to understand format... Other then me not understanding how to do the zigzag inputs
I'm glad I could keep things understandable :)

@@Geco209 I've come to rely on the "tea-bag" method, it's slower to do than the standard way reactively, but it's more consistent for me right now.
@@metallictoast6044 That's good too! What matters is it works for you, and you're happy with it
This is a bit late but you can also buffer the motion as double quarters circle(that also if you don’t have full meter as then you get super)
How and when do you use forward heavy punch good move but I never use it properly when I space it I get jumped in on or interrupted 🤔
Hold up, Donkey Kick is QCF + K. Not HCF. Remember they simplified the move in SFV.
"Ryu isn't good at stealing games"
Clearly, this particular comment hasn't aged very well
Why use mid shoryuken instead of low?

I know how to use him in sf4 but 1 number made a change sf5
Is there a way to make it like sf4

Do all of these still work? I cant tell bc i suck and idk if im doing it right - the combo counter doesnt come up for me when i try them :*(

Muy bueno. Enhorabuena
Any tips for him now? Since this is season 4
Is it better to crossup with j.MK or j.LK?

Or did I just waste my money and time.
Do u have crush counter on
@@MrMatthew3117 idk how do you turn it off/on?
@@ravens3558 its in practice mode under the dummy's setting. Turn on counter. Some moves have crush counter properties like ryus HK.

This man is one of the highest ranked ryus in the world, and currently he is a higher rank on the ladder than jimmy and he plays ryu
Thumbs down cause Jesus Christ!Cut the extra bull crap and TELL ME WHAT COMBOS AND MOVES I can do with Ryu!
Damn all this nonsense talking
