    Actually, is better if you roll the window down the second you hit the water. If you can't you need to break the window before the water touches the window in the side. That's a a better chance than waiting for the car to fill. This strategy you use if you couldn't break the window.

      yes it make sense... i mean even in the simulation they seem a little bit struggling to open the door... just wonder if it happen in a real situation

      Yes...I was thinking the same thing. Someone where I lived died today because there was a flashflood in the carpark where she was waiting for her husband to get fast-food take-away .Her car was washed into the creek behind the building. She was screaming for help and the car windows were open and it floated for a few minutes down stream before sinking but she didnt take off her seat belt and climb out the window !I don't know why, but this is why I decided to look up how to escape a car under water and even after watching this I think winding down the window immediately before the car sunk would be a good option. Once water is pouring in the window I imagine the force might push you back...I feel so sad. This must be a truly horrible and frightning death

      I remember that happened to five Soldiers in a HMMWV in Iraq. The vehicle went into a dark cesspool at night. They thought it was a long puddle on a turn but it was a sharp drop off and the vehicle flipped but all managed to get out with the help of one alert Soldier. Very scary!!

      redwagon1967 that's exactly what happened to my daughter early this morning. By the grace of God, she reacted quickly, and was able to swim to shore and she was able to walk into my back door a few hours later. Tomorrow is her 18 birthday, and I am grateful that we get to celebrate her life with her!!!

    Just a headsup your gona watch this to get some tips on responding to this sort of emergency MAKE SURE U WATCH THE WHOLE VIDEO... first test run they do (waiting til car is submerge n then opening window) worked BUT as shown in following ones, often times even with car submerge it takes far too long for pressure to end up equalizing so the doors arent actually able to open for a significantly longer period of time... in other words like they say at the end and how experts say DONT WAIT FOR CAR TO SINK just get out AS FAST AS YOU CAN.

    Usually we do not get dropped into the water slowly, we get rammer jammered in some kind of accident. The door could be jammed etc these scenarios work on camera but not always in the situation at hand. Most are thinking what happened to me and why am I in water and disoriented not so easy then. Not so easy by any means great info but believe me not so EASY at ALL

    Also a little FYI For all you drivers. Pull your head rest right out of your seat the next time your in your car. You will notice one of the pegs is pointed. That pointed peg is there to break the window in the event of an emergency. Not all car's have it but alot do. Nifty little bit of info that most people would never know was there. Also comes in handy to jab the annoying one on road trips.

    A whole family just drowned driving off a slipway in Buncrana Co;Donegal last night,so that brought me here. I guess it would be a good thing for an adult to sit in the back with a child and a child in the front with the other adult .Only the adults would have the strength to open the doors and help them swim out.

    PLEASE READ THIS IT MIGHT HELP! Guys if you have a roof opening, make sure you fit in it(in some cars you do), and use it if you can get it open fast. If you don't fit forget about it, it's not that important. First thing you do! Take your seatbelt off! Not everyone has a window breaker like the one in the video, and if you do, it might not be in your close vicinity with your seatbelt on, and from the shock you might as well not remember where it's at. So: If you have a sharp key, point it at the window and hit it hard with your palm of the hand, if not,check your headrests right now, and see if they have a sharp point at the end(they should have at least one), if they do, remember them or mark the headrest which does(you can put a cover on it). If sinking, pull out the headrest and put the sharp point in the window and hit it like you do with the key, or just ram the window with it. Also if you have a stationwagon/estate/whatever it's called and the boot/hatch door/whatever can be opened from the inside(also go check that if you don't know but don't count on opening from an electrical button from the cockpit, unless it's a mechanical/manual/cord system) and you're not alone, make sure everyone has their seatbelt taken off, then put your seat backwards so you can go to the back of the car and try exiting on the boot door if it can be opened from the inside or try break that rear window, and if you can't, (this might happen with a van) wait until it fills and open the rear door(you have more time if you're in the back). It sucks when you crash fast cause you will have a higher shock but also more adrenaline pumping. If you are aware that you are going into water(sliding/losing traction/etc) push all the window buttons down, so you hit the water with all the windows open.

      Do NOT wait for the car to sink. The water pressure will seal the car, making escape impossible.
      Roll down or break the window and GTFO!!!

    • @mattchu2075
      @mattchu2075 8 років тому

      Stay in the car as long as you can, only use the window break as a last resort. Who are these morons we're suppose to be listening to?

    • @s1d3k1ckRO
      @s1d3k1ckRO 8 років тому

      You can't roll the window if water reached it because water will press against it making it impossible to be rolled. IF your car is sinking slowly then yes you might be able to do this.

    • @EvenTheDogAgrees
      @EvenTheDogAgrees 8 років тому +2

      The pressure is perpendicular to the direction of motion of the window. OF course it can be rolled down.
      A bigger issue is the fact that most cars have electric windows now. I assume they stop working pretty soon after the engine bay (where the battery is located, and which is the first thing to go down due to its weight) fills with water.
      [EDIT] Just saw the part where they explain the windows being jammed against the rails. Didn't account for that. I stand corrected.

  • @Derploop

    Issue with the second test, the car isn't actually sinking as they do it because the crane holds it up. The moment the door came open I'd expect the car to start sinking more rapidly as it fills with water, which could drag you down after it due to the wake it causes (I know boats can do this but IDK if cars create enough disturbance in the water). What if the car sunk with you half way out, flipped on its side and landed on you? Unless you're expecting to sink literally 30+ metres, surely the first method is safer? Like, anyone can hold their breath for 1 minute and that's all you'd need. Plus, if you go off the bottom you're not at risk of swimming downwards instead of upwards and drowning as a result of not knowing where the surface is. Of course, get the window open in the front seats if you can, if nothing else you'll sink faster allowing you to get out faster.

  • @user-rr3yw9dn1l
    @user-rr3yw9dn1l Рік тому

    You cant wait until it equalizes. You need to get that window open and get out as soon as you hit the water if you can either using whats left of the electronics or with a window breaking tool. He could have been dead. Not the center of the window. Hit the corner where its weakest. In a real scenario cars sink in a minute and can roll.
    Trying to get out sooner rather than later is better before it rolls.

    say your driving over a bridge and it collapses your going to be falling much faster and your not going to be able to get out as fast and especially if there were children or friends that didnt know these methods i mean what do u do let them stay in the car and die there is no time to try and get them out

    • @lmallanao
      @lmallanao 10 років тому +1

      The impact of the car against the water would slow it down even from a bridge. It would only make the sinking about...idk maybe 2-10 second faster. Most cars wouldn't be like a diver going straight into the water (unless it's like a car like a Lamborghini and hits it nose first and has the effect like a diver). And plus, the car most likely wouldn't be going straight down since it's in a free fall and rotating a whole bunch or little (if the bridge is high enough to let the car have that much time to do that many spins so u wouldn't really know how you would land).

    • @TheShockwaveDragon
      @TheShockwaveDragon 9 років тому +3

      Its_Lou_Baby ! The purpose of emergency action plans is not to try to teach them to your family and friends while the accident is actually happening -- you should have already taught your children and/or friends the proper method to escape the car, as well as do practice simulations if possible as often as possible, so that when the accident happens they all know what to do. It's said that in an emergency, you automatically revert to your highest level of training -- if you never trained, then you'll freeze up when the moment of truth comes, and that lack of preparation could be fatal.
      This is why school districts require mandatory fire drills in EVERY state in the nation, as well as tornado/emergency bus escape drills in states where these threats are likely to happen -- because of these drills, teachers need only supervise safe escape and take a head count to make sure everyone got out all right, rather than have to manage 26 clueless and terrified children. I would recommend that if you don't already have one, you purchase a vehicle safety tool and keep it in your car at all times -- it would at the bare minimum have a seat belt cutting blade and carbide-tipped glass breaker for emergency escape situations.
      (Note: Don't actually USE the carbide tip on your car window or it WILL shatter. Experiment with using on something else like a piece of tempered glass from a glass table.)

    They didn't have a scenario of what if the car went under and the water never made it inside. This happened to me and not a drop got in the car. If God wouldn't have put a huge monster truck there to push me out, I don't know what would have happened.

    What would you do if you had children in the car

      You wind the window down and take seatbelt off and grab the child and swim out the window

      +Liam Cox electric windows, wind them down? they may not work...engine compartment pulls down first, last place for air is in the back seat. Get there get kids and will have to wait for the water to rise first or get out and open kids doors from the back side meanwhile remember this car is going to sink ....sink not stay suspended like it is in vid

      if you're already a few feet underwater, the water pressure above the sunroof may prevent you from opening the sunroof.

    Forget all of that you can
    Always keep a hammer in you car
    Always keep the steering wheel lock or club
    Headrest ehhhh or Mini baseball bat
    My best option is a small bat or pipe
    It may be hard to swing under water but it will get the job done in any situation
    Upside Down Right Side up any
