Hey the shirt pre-order is right here just for you!
dylanmccool.bigcartel.com/product/abandoned-challenger-t-shirt-pre-order
Dylan McCool can you do this in a tank top, please?😊
Hey Dylan, what's the story behind the car? Where did it come from and where Didi it sit for 30+ years?
2 more videos before this one check his channel out
Austin Weinrich You're watching part 3. Here is part 1: ua-cam.com/video/NH1GZZu6bck/v-deo.html
Hey Dylan you ever heard of Huntland Tennessee
Easily my favorite channel on UA-cam. Dylan is such a class act. He sent at least 10 emails trying to help me troubleshoot ignition and wiring issues on my charger. If it weren’t for his help, I probably wouldn’t be road testing my 71 tomorrow.
Glad you got it figured out!
Dylan McCool without your help, I would’ve been pretty lost haha. I really appreciate it!
Sweet!
I just discovered this channel and it's great!
Love to hear this love it wheni hear about UA-camrs who actually help their community and viewers makes me stay for sure ,an his videos are awesome thanks
I like these home style builds better then big garage style builds.
That's so much truth. I can't even stand to watch those garages throw $20k in performance engine parts on while telling you how "budget friendly" it is.
Me too... these are much more practical than those 200k builds
@@user-qr7ee2cp4y 💯. Almost anyone can bolt on new parts. Love makes you refurbish and rebuild the original stuff.
I love watching Roadkill Garage as well. It’s the same style as home builds, it’s just every now and then you have access to a stupid engine through their company.
Truth! Working man's budget is better than ANYTHING power nation ever did.
As a mechanic, it's nice to finally see someone who knows what he's doing. Nice work. You just earned another subscriber.
Sander shut yo biiitch ass up
take calipers off before the rotr bolts, fix the body before the mech,s.
@@tekashidonald8502 I gave honest positive opinion. What the hell is wrong with you
Sander sorry...
If i had money i would love to do this. I took automotive technology in college, to do this kind of fun things to a old school muscle car. Great watching someone do what you love to do as well.
As a World class GM mechanic, i gotta say, I cannot get enough of these builds!! No MDI II, no OBD connections. Just good ole fashioned car rebuild, tride and true, lovin the content man, seriously, you’re extremely talented. You’ve also got a great head on your shoulders kid👍🏼
38 Prius guys can't stand someone doing their own repairs... Yessir, good thing you weren't hurt by that torsion bar - I had an issue w/my Newport concerning the torsion bar, & rather than try tackling it(or vice versa) in my garage, I let a shop with a lift handle it for me. All in all, I think you're doing a great job - & I'll be here for the 318 teardown. Two thumbs up!
I had a "70" Challenger convertible with a 383 when I lived in Phoenix in 1974. It was stolen in 1976. Makes me cry when I think about it. Loved that car!
Don’t know anything he’s taking apart but it’s fun to watch someone who knows what they’re doing. And the best part after all that hard work you end up with a cool car! Good job. Keep it up!
One of the most satisfying videos I've ever seen! I love seeing a beat up classic get some of the care and restoration it should. Keep em coming!
How many times have you heard, "dinners ready" and "hurry up, I don't want it to get cold", garage builds are the best.
This guy is pro about vehicles old school lots of experience in the field mechanic school not easy when put new engine inside parts nuts volts hood also wheel want learn about this Dylan more information awesome video keep up the good work friend bless you
If anyone says they don't like old mopar muscle cars, you know they are lying, not possible 😁 enjoying the build so far thanks
Ah those young knees that can still kneel on concrete...I remember them...
You and me both. They seem to have gotten lost in that closet called "Time" and i have yet to figure out how to retrieve stuff from there.
Heck even with pads my knees will complain. I try not to listen to them, but some how they win out!
Guy Poole
I’m 45 ,, I was thinking the same thing !! And also I was thinking put that stuff on a table 44 inches high!!
It will definitely save your back. Kneeling on pavement hurts after awhile.
I'm only 13 and my knees kills me on concrete
I am an Old Goat Mechanic, sure would like to see you getting a Bead/Sand Blaster, it would save you tons of time and the paint really sticks. I understand you are trying to keep costs to a minimum. Keep the videos coming on this build. Good to see someone saving these vintage cars!
Rescuing old cars that have been basically abandoned is commendable. It's history on wheels. I'm hooked on this series.
Quickly becoming my favorite automotive site on UA-cam !
It's good to have a young person who will jump on to a classic and bring it back to life. Keep up the great work one of my favorite channels. When I was as your age I would buy cars ant trucks out of yards and stick salvage yard engines or transmissions in and drive them as my main transportation. Biggest difference is it was the same years cars as you do but not nearly as old in the 80s. I have a 67 Charger now as a hobby.
Great Work Dylan!!!! I Owned a 1972 Challenger with a 318 ,904 trans with the Slapstick shifter, had the console. Rear window defogger option. A /C , a Craig Power Play 8track pop in and out tape player . Factory Rally mag wheels . She was Allot Like Yours. Mine was Root beer Brown with a Black Vinyl top. I was a Happy 16 year old in 1978 . I Met my Best friend while driving this car. He had a 1971 Challenger with the 318 auto and the Slapstick . I also met my Dream date and took her out in this car.
7.5 K views in 60 minutes. That is great and it shows that your channel is quality content. I am always psyched to see a notification for this channel. 👍👍
FINALLY FOUND a person to watch being a mopar mechanic that actually "explains" parts and procedures. Closest i came to a mopar is a '69 dart with a slant six. I have very little mechanical knowledge; however i still enjoy learning auto mechanics.
Who knew these types of videos would become a lot more interesting after playing a bit of Car Mechanic Simulator? Now I have at least a basic understanding of what he's doing and what most of the parts are/does.
Dylan, dude, I keep referring back to your tips. You're beyond kind to share how you do what you do.
My goal - to get my new '70 Challenger up to snuff to the point I can drive to meet you somewhere between Iowa (where I'm at) and Tennessee (where you're at).
Should have the car home in April, and the "Challenge" begins! I work a lot, so it will take a while, but I'm excited. Intimidated, but excited.
Cheers, and thanks again!
Loved the ball-joint separator on the air hammer!
This series is by far my favorite so far. Really enjoying watching this come together! Keep up the great work man!
Dylan you are a genius but even a genius can make a mistake right?
I know 🙏 you are so gifted you can fix every mistake. I enjoy watching how you fix and transform old and broken cars into nice cars again. Your parents must be very proud of you. God bless you and your family.
Feels like the last upload was forever ago so glad to be watching
If you soak the rusted parts in distilled vinegar they will come out looking brand new then prime & paint
I derusted a tank and several other stuff with vinegar. Works great. Lemon acid works too
throwing money at new parts also works really well too
@@xtune5731 that's if you have the money to throw
Jason Arch then revert back to what the op said
Could you spray vinegar on rusted parts still in a vehicle thats set in garage for 6 yrs ?? And get the same effect?
Takes a true enthusiast to save a car others pass up. Bravo
Invincible Extremes Muscle Cars Garage Thank you 👍🏻
Back yard build , way to go young man ! Bringing her back to life ... The way you are attacking this project , it should turn out to be a good looking and good handling car ! The 318 should take a 340 rotating assembly. Hopefully just .010 on the block. .... Keep up the good work ! A lot of us older guys that have a little difficulty doing this work are living through your Vidio ... Thanks young man ! Calif. Hun ☺️
I'm Camaro poor (own several and have had dozens) and still have not been able to get my hands on a MOPAR. I'd be elated to find one with the 3rd pedal like this Challenger has. Evidently I've not looked in the right place yet to find one. Keep up the good work and thanks for a respectable presentation of the build.
I appreciate your videos for the fact that you're not cussing every third word or dropping the N bomb all the time. It's nice to be able to watch something without having to monitor my daughter coming in and out when she wants.
Great job on the suspension Dylan, that's some quality work coming from a young mechanic like yourself. Keep up the awesome videos.
Thank you, Dylan for all the work of filming and editing those videos. Its a pleasure to watch. All the best and keeo going!
Those kyb's are really good. I've got them on Vette, 86 and 72 Camino. Stiff ride, but just right. There are sleepers..... I see you're putting them on your second car. Yep. Whole project looks good. And damn, I kept waiting for Stevie to rip out a solo. Damn
Most shows just shows the body and engine being restored you are doing it all as it should be, doing an awsome job!
This felt like I was watching my own video a while back when I did the front suspension for my Charger
Hi Jeb"
@@ClassicMoparsbyEvtheDodgeMan Hey Jeb two2.
Dylan you are a Super Genius. You make what looks impossible become possible, such an inspiration to future mechanics. Very gifted person.
Soaking your parts in distilled white cleaning vinegar & water for a few hours at a ratio of 3 parts vinegar to 1 part water will remove the rust in off your parts in sheets. The steel will look like new . It will surface rust immediately upon removal if you dont wash it with detergent and warm water immediately. Then you can prime and paint. Saves tons of work
You should invest in a sand blasting machine so you can give those suspension pieces are proper clean. Gets all the rust out of the nooks and crannies and leaves a bright, clean surface for the primer to adhere to properly.
Lovin' the videos Mr McCool !
A lot of good, hard work. Like the use of clearcoat. Excellent front suspension and K member total rebuild!
Dylan, wouldn't it be quicker and more effective metal prep to sand blast or bead blast your parts before painting? You have a compressor, and blast cabinets can be purchased cheaply at Harbor Freight etc.
The Blue Dart was the car that has me hooked ( my favourite car ) and many other of your builds. I own a 2016 Scat Pack Shaker and hands downs your Challenger, Charger and Dart have so much soul , style and more appeal than my car ever will. Keep up the GREAT work .
I wish from the heart that your project to see that forgotten and mistreated MOPAR be restored to a good port, and that you make that Dodge Challenger a worthy rival on the roads, streets and on the quarter-mile tracks.
🙋 Greetings from Granada (Spain) and much encouragement✌
Challengers are my favorite, i think what ur doing is a service to the world. Keep posting!!
In a 1969 Satellite Sport my mom had back in 1974 that thing was forever popping freeze plugs. Would I love to have that car now though ...
Good job Dylan, that front suspension looks really nice and you did a great job with the gusets on the control arms, looks really good and a lot stronger than factory for sure. Really enjoying watching the series and progress on the Challenger!!! See ya in the next one!!!
I think someone needs to donate a sandblasting cabinet to your channel, if anyone has one, feel free to hit up Dylan
You are a very talented young man that has a passion for old cars, keep up the great work.
There are four building/rebuilding channels I watch with any regularity, and yours is one of them. The others are "Johnathan W", Junkyard Digs and ThunderHead289... And watching your fast forward disassembly reminds me of the old series "Six Million Dollar Man"
Great stuff! More than I could ever do on a car. The new tee shirt looks pretty awesome too. Keepin' the old Mopars alive!
You need to get the 70 Satellite that Thunderhead289 and Junkyard digs are wrenching on and have that as a future rebuild project. Keep up the great work Dylan.
Eye protection and gloves bruh. Dylan knows his stuff for such a young man.
I am very glad that I discovered this series of yours - no acceleration and I like that - great
Its great that us `International` guys can understand everything he says. Good clear voice, great work on the car, cheers.
What a great find! I need to go back and watch the first two episodes! I don’t know which engine you had in that but you can’t go wrong with whichever one you had! I would like to say when pushing into the rubber bushings you should use silicone. I know WD-40 makes a silicone spray so I’m not sure if you used it or not. It doesn’t destroy rubber!
Your really doing a nice job on the Challenger! I like the tip about putting clear on new parts that aren't finished.
I really don't know why I'm here...can't even explain why I changed from makeup and hairdos to this...but seriously this is so satisfying to watch. English is not my first language but more important is that I don't understand anything of mechanics!! Anyway, interesting video, I can see the hard work and dedication you and your team have put to give that car a real life. You are like the godfairy of old card 😄
Greetings from Chile !🙋🏻♀️
I think we need some “It’s straight except for the dents.” Stickers!
I learned recently that on 60's and 70's MOPAR B bodies, you can simply lift the body off of the chassis. Then to body can go on a rotisserie and the frame and all the mechanics can be restored and or replaced as needed. For modern driving take a look at the MOPAR kits offered by Magnum performance.
Love your channel. I love the bible verses each video description too. I am a 23 year technician that has never done a project car. Hopefully next summer will be my time. Looking hard at a mopar. My favorite is 68 69 chargers, but I'll take what comes to me. I've learned a lot on these old mopars from watching you. Keep up the great videos and work. God bless.
In the late 70s I owned a '73 340 magnum 4spd. It was a decent running Challenger, but not one that I would invest $$ in restoring. But its your turn to experience the adventure. Lots of luck with it.
Great video, I have used those shocks on my classic mini over here in the UK 🇬🇧 they are a great shock and I have found ride nicer than some modern cars. Perfect upgrade in my eyes. 👍
Quick tip when you tack out tie rods and ball joints hit the hammer on the side of the area where the end go's in not the threaded end it will pop right out ever time...
Loved how you mixed the old parts with new improved ones. Good decisions. I worry a bit that you did not use any “rust converter paint” on those old parts. I hope they’ll stay rust free. Thanks for the video!
a tip sir , don't directly pressure wash any greasy part, apply some diesel/petrol/gasoline so that it loosens up quickly and make work a lot easier , it takes some time but while washing it will come out a lot faster.
Do you like to paint the engine bay? One of my mechanics did that to my first car. The problem was he painted a lot of the electrical wires black and it made it extremely difficult to trace the wires when I needed to. Also, I like that you do your own work. I will tell you I have had a lot of issues with mechanics in Nashville TN. You pay these guys $100+/hour and your car just sit there on their lot forever. It taught me to educate myself and do my own work. I do not know how to tear down an engine or transmission but if it comes down to it I will learn and do it myself.
New description for a used car. "It's straight besides the dents."
the engine is good if it was there
its only flat on the bottom, falls dont hurt, its the stop.
It ran when it was parked there.
Only negative on that car is negative terminal on battery ;)
It ran perfect until it didn't
Running and driving car, bad transmission or needs new engine
I like your approach to your videos! There isn't time lost to the " buddies" chit chat! Sticking to content! Keep it up!
This is my absolute FAVORITE channel! And I love this series! Great work!
Good to see young people interested doing things like this! Good job keep it up!!
D Mac making dry content really interesting, I love this channel and this build.
nice job , looks much better. i like the music playing in the background, its catchy. oh yea i saw those jack stands tip on ya , most guys put tires with rims under the vehicle to keep it from falling, as well as jackstands. keep posting, ill keep watching 👍
Man I wish I could have you in my garage! I have a 1970 Pontiac lemans sport in my garage that has been sitting there since 1994. I really want to get that thing on the road. All original, i have to have the engine rebuilt 😬
I Found your channel through another restoration channel, and wow what a find. Absolute awesome job so far, now to watch the rest. Great work :)
Good job!!!! You added the background music, I’m liking this series more and more.
I agree with you
Seeing that pickle fork attachment for the impact, yea I need one of those! Also, good to see I'm not the only one who gets too far into a job before thinking to themselves, I should have worn gloves. That's totally me! Haha. I can't believe the front spindle was in that many parts. Pretty slick with the stiffener plate.
Great Job Dylan! Those steering and braking components look brand new! 😊
Nice work. That suspension looks great. I hope you take the time to clean and paint the subframe to match.
Nice job on the front suspension. I'm looking forward to the engine teardown. Hope it can be saved. It would be nice to have the original back in the car.
I would consider myself more of a charger guy, but you easily took your channel to the next lvl with this project. 👍
Much love from Europe, where awesome classics are quite hard to find 😉
I hope you gave the guy that suggested that T a thank you 👍 Brakes and suspension systems can be problematic.
A full sand down and paint of rusty parts😍😍😍
Best series
I’m rewatching these for the 3rd time. . .I love these videos😅
Always happy to see you uploaded a new video!
I would have still grind the welds. It just always looks better. But good job kid! And a big kudos for doing it all on the ground and on jack stands. And don't be afraid to wear a good pair of Mechanix gloves when needed. Take it from someone that's been turning wrenches for over 40 years.
You did all that wonderful work on front suspension to bolt it back the rusty body ? What don't you clean up the body/subframe before you do that?
Great job Dylan can't wait to see the front suspension back on the car.and that new engine in
No more goonzquad for me,,i love this guy, super talented and knowledgeable,,,reminds me of fixing up my Vw beetle with my late father when I was a young dude,,,wish we had had Dylan's tools though lol !Subscribed.
Great video! I can hardly wait for the next one! Thanks Dylan! God bless.
Use a weld through primer before you weld next time it does work . Etching primer would be a lot better under your paint it bites into the metal a lot better then regular prime does, just little things I've learned over a few resto's over the years , just tip's that's it.
Estoy ansioso por verlo terminado, estoy seguro que será una obra de arte, es algo que lleva tiempo pero con mucha paciencia y perseverancia lo lograrás! ánimo! y suerte!
You are building up quite the collection there. Keep up the good work!
A few cool ways to completely remove rust from vintage parts. Get a bucket and you can use any of the following, white vinegar, coca-cola, and soak for 24 hours. then sometime I soak then again in wd-40 as it is primarily a metal cleaner. For items thst are sever Metal rescue is amazing, as well as good results from Evapo-rust and of course muriatic acid will clear rust and make metal look new.
Ditch the dust shields. Rick @ Mopar action has done many of these builds thru the years. Unless you are going factory resto, they aren’t worth using. Great vids!
I drove one of these when it was new ,it belonged to a friend sure it was no 440 but still a lot of fun to drive . I was 18 at the time good memories 😎👍
Just found your channel buddy its great my first car was a 73 satellite then i got a73 charger then to a 68 charger my dad was a mopar fan ive grown to like chevy but seeing these mopars on your channel makes me think of him thank u
I enjoyed the Bible verse in the description! God bless you my friend!
I would sand or grain blast clean the lower arms before I welded the support plate. Makes painting much easier and the end product much better.
