I’m going from MHA to MPE 9 on the 18th. I’ve been in MHA for about eight months. Three months ago I saw the position online, so I applied. Then went to take the assessment. I passed. Then was told to come in for my interview. I passed. Then 3 weeks later they called me back for the 2nd interview. The 2nd interview was literally done just to update all my paperwork so it could be sent to HR for my final application, with the hiring managers recommendation. The second interview was no pressure just me signing and updating paperwork. My last day as a MHA is the 17th. I applied on March 28 and I will start my new position as a MPE 9 on June 18.

@@adriennecurry8094 Thank you! And yes it is. Im making double what a was making as a MHA. That interest and curiosity would make you the perfect candidate for maintenance MPE. I encourage you apply for that open position and take the test. The majority of the test on spatial awareness so that’s super easy but bush up on Basic electric maintenance/ Basic electric terms if you can. UA-cam videos can be extremely helpful if you have no previous experience. You only need a 70 to pass, its not too bad.
I’m very fascinated in the Maintenance Mechanic position! Only because I work in automation. It is something I could see myself do but I don’t know much about it but I see how they work and I think it’s so cool.
Hey you said it and that was my first thought that came to my mind too 🤣 But I see them mechanics be vacuuming and chilling all day. Of course knowing it’s more then just that 😆 but I hear it’s where the money at.
Study basic electronics. Everything is electronic. Know how to work a volt meter. know how to troubleshoot. It's very easy to get in for mildly experienced people. Google basic electronics and google troubleshooting. if that sounds like its for you go for it.
I hope you didn't give up. We had a superlative mechanic named [-redacted-] she moved up from custodian. MPE and ET *look* like they do nothing until something breaks, then we are in the sh!t. Be a team player and able to handle pressure.
My advice is once you become a custodian is to apply to take the maint 955 exam right away. Even if you fail you can retake the exam every 6 months. Also they only count the highest score. MM, MPE, ET bids dont get posted to often, normally when someone quits, promoted or retires.
You can look on the Website for all of those answers reguarding pay. Look up the craft in careers section and then click the drop down job description. It will fill u in with EXACT DETAILS.
I don’t know much about the USPS, I just always wanted to work there.... I applied for processing clerk assistant today and I took my assessment today and scored a 91....I’ll see how this goes....I’ve been working as a hairdresser for 15 years and now that my kids are grown and almost grown I now have time to work a more demanding job schedule wise. I appreciate your videos...I’m currently binging on them.

63J/91J Quartermaster and chemical maintenance is the military equivalent and if you passed the 3-5 months military AIT training you can easily pass the postal exam 955
Also if you don't want to buy the study book break out your old military manuals on basics and fundamentals of electrical,pneumatic and hydraulic systems they give you in AIT at Aberdeen proving grounds.Postal equipment is different but the fundamentals are the same as a ROWPU,TWIP etc,laundry systems or smoke generator repair systems

Lately I have been a stay at home dad for the past 7 years or so looking to get back into the work force. Trying to find info on different careers that suite my background prior to being a stay at home parent. Is it difficult to get into the USPS? What it the process to getting hired?
Maintenance Mechanic is based on passing a multicraft test and an interview. You have to work at facilities usually close to big airports. Go to usps careers page regularly and look for openings. Once there is an opening you can take the 955. It can take a while to get hired I went from application to first day of work in 3 months and a couple of days with no previous experience.

I came across this video because I was looking at the Electronic Technician positon. I do not know if you have to have experience/knowledge with computers and electronics. @@bakehousebritt5939 Try to master spatial relations because that’s half of the test. Give every question a try even if you think you don’t know it. Mark questions that you aren’t sure about and don’t spend too much time on any one question. I also noticed that a lot of the questions had at least one possible answer that didn’t make any sense.

Nice! Depending on your test scores you may get invited to an interview, I believe for electricians it is a panel interview where they ask you very technical questions. Are you a veteran? Because vets automatically get points added to their test scores. The higher score you get, the more likely you'll be invited to interview.

@@OhYesThisJay watch videos on AC DC theories, power distribution and transmission, control circuits, OHMs law and Kircchoffs Law, and how to read schematics and diagram. Also buy book on spatial relations so you can prepare. Spatial Relations is the easiest part of the test, so prepare for it since that will help your final score a lot.

So I'm moving from Georgia to Tennessee and would like to secure a USPS job prior to moving, but obviously not too far in advance. I am in the same situation. It worked out that while I was visiting family I was able to schedule the Maintenance Mechanic test. I passed and got an email that I would be scheduled for a further exam. It is actually an interview. At USPS they consider it an exam and give you a score. I am patiently waiting.
You may want to be a BEM. Be advised USPS doesn't care about your outside experience, you have to be Postal Trained(tm) . Doesn't matter if it is Vehicle Maintenance Facility, or Building Equipment Mechanic [you can be OTIS elevator certified but not qualified to fix "lifts"] Nobody has experience on Postal Equipment -- nobody has it except USPS -- until they learn on the job. Give it a try. $25 / hr to start. Be advised they will NOT teach you to be a mechanic; they expect you to BE one and apply skills to equipment.

You have to start out as Custodian level 4 and you are given a opportunity to take the mechanics test.After 23 as a mailhandler currently maintance mechanic on tour1,I get 4-5 call a night.Average 20mins each call.
I’m going from MHA to MPE Application process took about three months from start to finish. No need to start at the bottom it’s all about what positions they have available and you can pass the assessments / interview. And it’s a plus if you have background in maintenance, telecommunications, or electrical trades.

Absolutely. I WOULD GUESS.. IT TAKES ABOUT 3 MONTHS.. start to finish.. (rare cases it moves faster.). Kinda time urself off of that

You have to start out as Custodian level 4 and you are given a opportunity to take the mechanics test.After 23 as a mailhandler currently maintance mechanic on tour1,I get 4-5 call a night.Average 20mins each call.
I took the 955 test after 2 months as a MHA. Anyone can take the test. Custodians are just given first dibs.

I’m going from MHA to MPE Application process took about three months from start to finish. No need to start at the bottom it’s all about what positions they have available and you can pass the assessments / interview. And it’s a plus if you have background in maintenance, telecommunications, or electrical trades.
