John was only 30yrs old here. This was when no record company would touch him. He was left to appear on our Aussie late night variety shows. Even at this young age his phrasing, enunciation, subtlety & power shine through. Best wishes from Australia 🦘🇭🇲
With that voice, why was he struggling to be taken seriously as a singer??? Even as such a baby he had it, that pure, clear tone and beautiful interpretation of a songs lyrics. Great to hear he has beaten the cancer curse. Wish you all the best, John, and enjoy your cancer free days.
👏👏 we thank the late Yank, Don Lane for his unconditional support of John during some very difficult times trying to survive as a singer entertainer in Aussie, Don knew the real deal when he saw one Sammy thought so too.
I guess it resonates with me because he was just 30 and yet his career was largely over and he was fighting for his life here. Overlooked because he had been a teen heartthrob and was now considered 'washed up'. His natural talent is so obvious in this clip but talent is not enough for a fickle public. Thanks for reacting.
Even at such a young age and low time in his career his voice is just perfect. The emotion and passion that is conveyed is amazing. John’s vocal agility and range are phenomenal, awesome performance and reaction.
I must admit that every time I've heard this performance of John's Bridge Over Troubled Water I am so moved with his sincerity to say nothing but praise for his vocals. I sit here still with goosebumps. An American named Don Lane had a late night variety show here in Australia and supported John as he was a constant guest on his show. One time Sammy Davis Jnr was on it and after John sang he told Don he wanted to meet him. John was so shocked he could hardly talk lol. I'll try to find that little clip for you if I can. Loved your reaction to this too. ps you don't have to react to this ua-cam.com/video/EkS1US9QqxY/v-deo.html
I think he's sang that ,maybe on the TV show The Don Lane show in Australia . Don Lane was an American talk show host that came out here , he was told so they called him the lanky yank.
John was a young pop star for years and the public had become blasé back then because he was on so many midday performances. John was struggling for direction while throwing himself into every role he could. John deserves the recognition, he of all performers has slogged the hard yards. I can only say that “Deep Respect” is what Australians these days feel for that man.
Every word sang from his soul we were so lucky in Australia to enjoy this incredible human for so many years for most of us he sang the songs of our life. Thank you. xxx
Awesome, that last note, John just nails it. Great cover by John. Back up singers killed it too. Regarding your comments, that’s why I like to hear covers. I enjoy seeing and hearing how these iconic songs are reinterpreted by other great artists.
He has the voice of an angel 🫶 Loved what you said about not pitting versions against each other, seriously what is the point? Artists give what they have to give.
Great reaction as always. Yes, there are so many beautiful versions of this song, and that's no surprise because the song itself is beautiful. I always tear up when I hear John sing this, because I have someone in mind that it relates to..... So you are 100% right when you say you lean toward a different style, this is what music does to us. We relate music to different times, places and people.
You should check out some songs from ‘Chain Reaction’ live. The concert with the MSO is amazing but there are some other great songs too. Age of reason, Chain Reaction, That’s Freedom, In Your Hands, The Time has Come, Touch of Paradise, to name a few. Thanks for your reactions!
Thank you, I love your reactions to John, and your reactions in general, love your sincerity and honesty, and the way you think about music and performances. It's even better sometimes when we get to see you crack a huge smile (which I have def seen on some of your John Farnham reactions!). I think you might enjoy this, it's John in 1972, when he was 23 years old - live at Festival Hall in Melbourne. It's got about 6 shortish songs on it, if you just want to listen to a couple, I'd suggest "Take Me To The Pilot" and "Yesterday", both great, and this video demonstrates how John had the voice, musicality, and love of entertaining even at that young age. Take Me To The Pilot starts around 5:41 in the video, and Yesterday is straight after it. ua-cam.com/video/B9Bn8bvpa34/v-deo.html :)

Freddie Mercury once said he was the world’s greatest male singer - high praise indeed

When John Farnham sings his emotion reaches inside of you and hugs your soul.
LUV U JOHN FARNHAM

That pianist did a fabulous job. What a vocalist. Never heard him before. Thanks for bringing it to my attention
Singing Amazing Grace with Venetta Fields is one to watch too!

Oh what a beautiful version, thank you for this reaction!
So glad he never gave in to the record execs. Bet those execs have been kicking themselves for years. Absolutely ❤ John.

one of my favorite songs and a beautiful rendition. Thank you for the reaction and doing this song because I had not heard him sing it
His voice is just so pure.
Oh boy, this is gonna be good. He looks like a baby!
Well. The voice of all time and master of every music genre ❤
