After so many years looking for footage of ADX Florence here it is! Just mind-boggling to imagine living in these cells. But this has to be the Control Unit where it's less isolated it seems. Amazing Footage, thank you very much!
This place is worse than anything I could imagine. It's so cold and empty and haunting. And the sounds of the doors. I got chills when those doors were opening and closing. Not only a door, there are bars behind the doors! I just cannot imagine why anyone would want to end up there. But it goes to show that there are no levels to the depravity but a human being can resort to. Thankfully there's a place exists like this, that keeps them contained. Terrifying! Ty for uploading. I've seen a lot of footage about adx but this one was outstanding!
Man thos place looks wildly different than i imagined it. The color scheme and the checkered floor and how clean it is and the tiles on the wall actually make it aesthetically pleasing for guards The echoing and relative silence and just this being adx makes me catch thoughts about these dudes who never get any human contact . Crazy wave of anxiety
I'm glad I never had to spend any time in THIS prison, because I have always been and always will be a free man. This video tour of ADX Florence has motivated me to keep my freedom for as long as I can.
It’s kind of like the difference between thinking about one of the older, small MRI machines and actually being vulnerable on your back inside one with all that steel an inch from your face. There is such a difference between actually experiencing being locked in a cell and looking at it on TV and thinking about it. Being unable to leave when you want to, having it be completely out of your control and under someone else’s control, is a feeling you can’t imagine until you feel it. Some deal with it better than others. I could barely handle for one night.
Agreed. County jail is enough for me. The concept of other men being allowed to put their hands on your person and determine your every moment is truly terrifying. You are rendered inhuman from that moment on.
Wow thank you so much for sharing this - Until now I've never seen actual footage of inside ADX Florence and it really does look like a "Clean version of hell". Amazing.
@@Wrldisyours it’s the only glance you’ll ever see of it unless you do something to get there. And even then. You ain’t seeing much outside that first walk to your cell.
Great video! One must say that this guy is a fantastic salesman! I imagine him touring the gulag and mentioning things like “You may notice that one of the features of this facility is the access to fresh air and nature close by” as well as “another feature of this facility is its ability to offer every inmate a job assignment everyday” 😂
I always found it hilarious when commenters on Solitary videos boast "oh isolation? I do that all the time this is nothing." Well it's a different story when it's FORCED isolation. When you don't have video games, smart phones, or things like that. I was fortunate to only have done a week in an isolation unit when I was in prison; where you still had access to books. A radio and a TV - if you were in there for over a month, or so..but no contact with another human being + only being let out 3 times a week for an hour.. it messes with your head, very quickly. I would take having an annoying cellie over that in a heartbeat.
my uncle has been in here sense it opened. At first he was able to buy art supplies he would send huge paintings home all of which we still have quite amazing he recently sent me a dream catcher he beaded with quils. he says the 23 hour lock down was hard at first but he has seemsto be okay in there. its his home.
Even Charles Harrelson called the USP Florence ADMAX his home and he said that the day lacks the amount of time for his own things and matters he likes to do during the day and he said that he enjoys the quietness and peaceful time inside his own cell! He also liked the TV-channels he could watch inside his cell! The same opinion about it that the USP Florence ADMAX is his home has Theodore John Kaczynski - the legendary Unabomber! He told in an interview a few years ago that inside the ADX Florence supermax prison his own cell has much more comfort like his own cabin which he had in the Montana Mountains and he has much more social contacts than ever before and he also feels comfortable in the USP Florence ADMAX - currently he is no longer in the USP Florence ADMAX and was transferred to the FMC Butner in December because of a very severe health issue! That's the information what I have! And I must say that I love the ADX Florence supermax prison and I wished me that I could see it once in my life with my own eyes! That's it! Period, end of story!
@@sarahivsutterb747 I can tell you this from experience every prisoner that has more than 5 yrs sometimes less calls prison and their cell home after just a few months being locked up. It’s just human nature and normal, unfortunately it’s the only way to cope and do your time without going crazy. If you think about the outside.. your real home your time gets really hard. It’s hard to explain how they reprogram your also how the body programs itself to do things extremely out of character. Calling the prison home is the least of the mental and physical character changes people suffer when incarcerated without reform. You would be surprised what the body and brain will get custom to and normalize.
this was filmed while the facility was finishing construction. Even with that though, the silence is allegedly 'eerie' and even the CO's are given special issue boots to keep the noise level at an absolute minimum.
This is amazing footage. That little awkward walk away moment at 26:50 is hilarious. I love the rough edit of the whole video. I prefer it over a polished version. Let’s you take it in.
I’ve heard stories of inmates saying Guantanamo bay wasn’t even as harsh or cruel as ADX Florence so that goes to show you how isolated this prison is. Literally “hell on earth” as per inmates
Anyone who works there are also doing time behind bars as well. Just sitting there pressing buttons and talking through an intercom every shift must be isolating too. Not me man. 🧐
There's a reason why deprivation causes mental illness. This is not relaxing in your bed at home with streaming services and video games. Lots of people say that it sounds great, but they are used to having means of passing time.
funny, the warden talks about searching books page by page for contraband. Start with searching every non-convict entering the prison just as thoroughly, every single time they walk through the entrance and you'll eliminate 95% of all contraband. The guards are every bit as criminal as the convicts
After these inmates have committed the most horrific crimes on earth, I have a hard time having any sympathy for their wellbeing whatsoever . I don't give a damn.
@@jeffreyzimler7978 about the time I had got out of state prison and got really interested in the Federal system, I met a guy from my little hometown no less who had just finished doing 20 in the Feds, 13 in the ADX. Im sorry, but that place is a sweet deal if you have to do life! A private cell, your own shower, tv, you can smoke!! Why the hell would anyone want to share cells and showers with other inmates?
There’s guys who do 10-20 years here, then get dropped and goto a USP and murder someone immediately just to go back to the ADX because they’re comfortable there
The isolation is what drives you crazy. You have to think, 23 hours a day. twenty three hours.... That's a long time every single day. You also need to remember they aren't watching Hells Kitchen, Bachelor, or Modern Family on the TV. You watch government propaganda all day long through the TV.
@@wittywilly Iv done a handful of years, the longest Iv done in one cell without coming out is like 4-5 months. Granted that’s without TV or any of my stuff because I was in the hole. @@garrett8454 I’d like to think it wasn’t that bad on me but truth be told the residual effects became more apparent later in my Life. At the time I didn’t mind it so much to be honest, but a lot has to do with if you have a cellie and who it is. But like you said, any man at the ADX has more than earned their way there. I have a close friend who was there for 13 years and Iv done extensive research on who’s there now and what the living conditions are like. It can be literal torture for some, for other who don’t mind being alone it’s just very boring.
That was unfair this prison is for absolutely evil violent people who have no hope of being civilised. Like Big mafia Lords, terrorist, spy etc.. Saul deserves better 😔
I could easily do time in this type of isolation. I don't talk to 3 people a month and am in my room doors locked 90% of the time. Throw in a Bible and I'm all set. Not that I'm particularly religious, but it's something you can read every day and find something new - it's a different book every time you read it. This cell would be a paradise for me. I wouldn't even want to get out to exercise. Calisthenics are perfect for that space - t'ai chi as well.
Every prison has it's lights on 24/7. It's definitely not for psychological reasons but to keep order. Seriously, imagine lights off in a prison. Definitely no inmates getting some nice beauty sleep.
There are no underground cells inside the ADX Florence supermax prison - not even the Range 13 Unit is underground and all cells have windows which providing natural light! The only cells which have no windows are the holding cells near the entrance area at the inmate booking sector inside the USP Florence ADMAX! Don't listen to the murmurs of the hoax with the underground cells in the ADX Florence supermax prison! That's it! Period, end of story!
@@RBS314 Same, I would think the screaming would be way worse. I'd rather deal with complete silence with the exception of a few yells here and there and maybe the sound of a guard walking past, videos where inmates are screaming and banging non stop are insane to see and that would get old to deal with real quick.
I disagree. For what ADX costs to operate the Russians could run their entire prison system. For a fraction of the cost Russia’s maximum security prisons boast a perfect record of no convict ever escaping.
They couldn't careless about your human rights in the UK - not unless you're a POC! It's a fact. Communism has destroyed this once beautiful country. Our prisons are out of control!
doesn't take a genius to understand we're not a society of torture as punishment, or in simplest terms you may better understand, an eye for eye. because of his crimes or anyone's for that matter, it would be inhumane to apply such punishment
I did two years 8 months in China as a white man from Nee Hampshire!!! I am banned from China for life and I’d never wanna go back anyway. I’ve never been to prison anywhere else and surprisingly enough my record is clean, I am a state employee with a pretty great job.
If I ever go to prison I would want to go there. I get my own cell I don’t have to deal with people. I the type of person I don’t like groups of people and I’m good if I’m just by myself. I guess that’s why I drive trucks cross country
This is the design all prisons should take, this adx style prison keeps gangs from killing people. Most prisons are too open where gang members roam freely and many people get stabbed.
Impossible when you lock up more people per capita than any country on earth. It's prohibitively expensive to run a supermax. Besides they don't even work, gang leaders still manage to run operations from a supermax cell. They are terrible for rehabilitation too and just ensure people reoffend and victimize more citizens.
Why don't we get updates on "Good Behavior" inmates. I mean i feel like it's hard to "behave" when your in solitary confinement and the guards taunt or bad mouth ylu
Some of these guys cope quit well in there And are comfy with it being there home … It’s amazing how humans can get used to and adapt to almost any circumstances…
Humans are incredible, can cope to live with anything, Desert or snow, humans can survive, that makes us different from everything else or any other living species
When i was a kid, i didnt appreciate the lyrics from George Strait's song, Amarillo by Morning which goes, "I ain't got a dime, But what I've got is mine I ain't rich, But Lord, I'm free" Now that im older and wiser, I truly understand and appreciate these words. Freedom is worth more than any materialistic stuff in this world.
They shouldn't have one in the first place cigarettes are bad for everyone's health and second hand smoke plus they still have it easy there compared to third world countries like vietnam and the far east
Tough institution but it is a hotel compared to the Black Dolphin prison in Russia. If there's a hell, Russian or SE Asian prisons are it, maybe a few in Central and South America.
LOL yes, ADX is a nice cozy 5-star hotel, compared to the black dolphin. But there is in fact a place that makes the black dolphin look like a 5-star hotel, and is "The Salt Pit", a prison that is so bad that the US had to build it in the Middle East because it breaks every rule ever. Even Guantánamo was a vacation house beside that. It is said to be as "pleasant" as the North Korean prison camps. Oh, and they are of cause not prisoners but Hostile Combatant, since prisoners have some rights.
This is horrendous. Humans are not animals, and most people who commit crimes grow up in horrible environments where crime is normalized. What they need is empathy and support so they can learn to break those habits from their youth and adopt a healthier life where they can live happily and positively contribute to society. Living in solitary literally kills your brain-if your neurons aren't active enough, they slowly die one by one, which accelerates the onset of dementia, causes irreversible significant cognitive impairment, and removes several years from your lifespan. This obviously exacerbates mental illness, fucks people's coping skills, and predisposes victims of solitary confinement to committing more crimes in the future. Not to mention the thousands of people convicted of minor crimes or falsely accused who would be kept in inhumane conditions if all prisons were like this.
Even though no prisoner has escaped since it opened in 1994, ADX still believes that there is no such thing as a 100 percent escape-proof prison. You have to be vigilant every day.

Agreed , Some people prefer over crowded cells instead of this emptiness
Man thos place looks wildly different than i imagined it.
The color scheme and the checkered floor and how clean it is and the tiles on the wall actually make it aesthetically pleasing for guards
The echoing and relative silence and just this being adx makes me catch thoughts about these dudes who never get any human contact .
Amazing.
This is the only known footage to exist as far as I know. To have even this hour and a half we are lucky

What bothers me is the level of quit it is in this video. It's like every cell is completely sound proofed so it's like a tomb .
The host makes it sound like paradise 😀😀😀
These big gov dungeons scare me and that’s so odd.
I always found it hilarious when commenters on Solitary videos boast "oh isolation? I do that all the time this is nothing."
Well it's a different story when it's FORCED isolation.
EXACTLY , but not all will get it
The sound those cell doors make should be a wake up call for those who commit or are thinking about committing crimes.

my uncle has been in here sense it opened.

Does your uncle smoke? I think they provide lighters and cigarettes there that’s really bad
First thing that struck me is how quiet it is in all the footage. That’s not what prisons sound like…this place is something different for sure.
this was filmed while the facility was finishing construction. Even with that though, the silence is allegedly 'eerie' and even the CO's are given special issue boots to keep the noise level at an absolute minimum.
I had to do 10days in downtown Denver jail for a DUI and i never want to be locked up again. I can’t even imagine being in prison let alone a supermax

Haha I read the comment before I saw it. Once I saw it I knew it was exactly what you were talking about. Checked the time and lo and behold!
Just search for the detainees held there and you'll realise how important the prison facility is. I think it will come second only to Gitmo bay
I’ve heard stories of inmates saying Guantanamo bay wasn’t even as harsh or cruel as ADX Florence so that goes to show you how isolated this prison is. Literally “hell on earth” as per inmates

funny, the warden talks about searching books page by page for contraband. Start with searching every non-convict entering the prison just as thoroughly, every single time they walk through the entrance and you'll eliminate 95% of all contraband. The guards are every bit as criminal as the convicts

Impossible when you lock up more people per capita than any country on earth. It's prohibitively expensive to run a supermax. Besides they don't even work, gang leaders still manage to run operations from a supermax cell. They are terrible for rehabilitation too and just ensure people reoffend and victimize more citizens.

And just down the road, maybe .5 miles away is an adolescent treatment facility known as Southern Peaks.
This is how every prison should be.
