I started playing brawhalla a few months after the greatsword meta, and still I knew a lot of it a few months into playing the game, it was just such a meta shattering thing that happened and you know what, I kinda liked that it did, there’s like a certain essence, like “what if the next weapon is like greatsword” which is a question we will all ways ponder after that.
I think it was definitely the most meta Shattering weapon to be released. Battle boots is super strong but not on the levels of release Greatsword I don’t think

Ive recently started using Magyar occasionally. While I'm still not all that good with the hammer. I really enjoy using his great sword. I think his sigs are pretty dope looking. Another great video, keep up the great work.✌️

There is actually a cannon video I made in the past. Xull should be on the cover but I can always do better covering the weapons.
Minor correction at 2:10 when you explain advantage and disadvantage state: I think what you explained was plus and minus on attacks or frame advantage/disadvantage, advantage/disadvantage state is a bit different
true but he simplified it for the sake of the wider audience target, he doesn't need to get to the crooks of it and get geeky

i really think that the brawlhalla youtube community really needed a youtube channel like this. most brawlhalla youtubers would always make me super bored, its so great having a channel that is not just someone playing brawl while trying to make a proper sentence. but keep doing man, great videos

this is very true, I was main cross for 1 year and could not get diamond there I decided to test the magyar right and amazingly I managed to get magyar diamond in 2 weeks and ended up turning main magyar (sorry for bad english im brasilian)

I really wish bmg would take the time to rework the weapon properly instead of giving it random intermittent buffs, the way the starters and bridgers work is not well balanced at all.

Well from the perspective of someone who doesn't play the weapon often, that would make sense. But I play gs all the time, and there's a huge problem with how overreliant the weapon is on a few select moves.
Slight opener and dlight bridger are busted, but dlight opener and slight bridger suck fat balls. There's a bunch of ways they could fix this, but it would take a huge redesign.

lmao, the weapon is just fine! it's just a very tiny shadow towards what it use to be.
gs main here, like lvl 80 mako rn lol, missed the golden era of gs, it was like just free elo, even with the horrible nerf after magyar i still had fun using it, and after the buff with arcadia i could play rank again with gs, imo battle boots are going the same path, those are like gauntlets 2 but buffed, knowing bmg, next tourney with battle boots players will make bmg nerf them "slightly" and buffed again later on like usual
Level 80 on Mako is absolutely wild. Also I like that you used Golden Era of GS. I like Arcadia and Jaeyun for now.

Greatsword deserved it's first set of nerfs but outright killing the weapon is something bmg should've never done.
With all the nerfs they really killed Greatsword. Nowadays i hardly see anyone using it. Except for the occasional Arcadia here and there. Other than that pretty much no Jaeyuns, no Makos, and espicially NO MAGYARS

This, uh, aged poorly 😅.
That's not to say this isn't an entertaining video, or that it was completely wrong. It's just that vondakay, at least at the time, may have not had the full information on what the deal with GS was. So as someone who has played the weapon since release, let me fill in some of the gaps for those who weren't around to see what an absolute terror it was.
First off, GS neutral. This weapon was UNPUNISHABLE. Like, take bow slight, then cut off half the recovery frames, but then give it the range of hammer slight. That was what GS slight was. Spamming this move was a viable strategy. One of my favorite things to do as Jaeyun was to knock them offstage and spam slight-nsig at the ledge. The gap was so small and the hitbixes so big that I don't think a single person ever got past it (which is why I reserved it for toxic players only). Oh yeah, Jaeyun sigs were even better back then as well. Sword ssig was literally shang spear ssig with teros force, while GS nsig was literally the best sig in the game. No, I am not exaggerating.
Then there was recovery. That thing had the force of a signature and a hitbox to match. Gs rec is already massive in it's current state, so it is pretty hard to believe it being bigger back in the day, but it was. It could literally kill in orange. And was impossible to punish. EU BCX was literally just both players spamming rec, with the exception of pavelski who actually learned the weapon and beat everyone else because of it.
Then there's the timing. For every new tech that is discovered, counterplay soon develops. But with GS only coming into the limelight just before BCX, there wasn't time to develop any of that, leanding to GS players getting away with things they shouldn't have. Heck, most players wouldn't even want to develop counterplay when they could just also play greatsword and be at a massive advantage. To be fair, there are some things that may have been more real than I thought, I can't exactly check it because I don't have a way to try that patch (but I would pay good money to...). But I will say many of the strings used back then are jumpable now, whether they were jumpable back then I don't know.
Really, the number one thing that changed for greatsword after BCX was that a HUGE amount of recovery frames were added on just about every attack, as well as multiple hitbox reductions and damage/force reductions to recovery especially. What was left was... Interesting, to say the least, but that's another story.
So why was the balance of GS so bad? To be honest, I don't think BMG themselves knew the potential this weapon had. It was new and exciting, and I think they expected a different playstyle with it as well. I distinctly remember them showing it off for the first time and mentioning that you could dash out of the stances for GS, it was talked about very little. It kind of went like "hey, look at these strings! Oh yeah, you could dash to cancel a stance, but look at these strings!". A very similar thing happened with scythe if what I've heard is to be believed. So I don't think it was intentional, just a disconnect between how they thought it would be played vs how it ended up being played.
Again, thanks to Vondakay for making this video, while there was lots of missing information I can't say anything he said was objectively wrong, and he made it entertaining.
One last thing for anyone still reading this massive wall of text, if you still aren't convinced of how unbelievably broken GS was, watch Hardy MJ vs Lil Capped at BCX 2020. Should really put into perspective the absolutely massive gap in power between GS and everything else.

You can now favorite characters in the game! The way to however is different depending on your platform, I think it's left Ctrl for PC, but I know it's R3 (Press the right stick) for consoles
@@plvto1 I only play on PC. In the 2v2 menu I found an inscription that "1" adds to favorites and it works for me.

It was legal potentially even before Autumns but no one made top 32 with it. Autumn I believe only one person played it.

That’s all it takes. Sometimes I just don’t dodge and wait for them to drop it.
Tip for you as a cannon main. Dodge up at every attack except sair. You have to look at the situation to counter sair because some players are good at catching players after sair miss.
killing on cannon with one dodge read is not as easy as it sounds
you need to be on a small stage and pretty much close to one of the edges. You also have to pray that they dont dodge up while setting up a read, because its literally impossible to get a dodge read thats more than 2 hits if your opponent dodges up. Then you also have to hit the dodge read at a somewhat exact damage range or your opponent can just jump out of sair > recovery. 90% of the time when you try the 0 to death you have to read your opponent yet again, because you werent close enough to the edge. And the last read isusually with a sig or sair, but its insanely inconsistent if your opponent just jumps high enough or knows how to avoid it. The 0 to death isnt even a 100% safe option either if you discard all of the issues I mentioned, because you can just wake up with a fast unarmed move like nair, dair, gc nlight, gc dlight and gc slight or any other very quick move like gaunts or sword gc nlight. sometimes your opponent can even randomly jump out.
gs needs really a rework:
you know, the weapon is way too fast. What i mean by that, is that a huge amount of players can't even dodge even if they can absolutely do it. I don't think that is good thing to let it go in brawlhalla
what i suggest is to slow it down. to carry gs too, it should be also more of stun to compensate the slow move.
meanwhile, i've wanted to add more of a spicy gameplay for grounded moves on gs. There is way too much useless string. It's sad to not be able to do these moves as often as i would and only playing the main string, i.e the unjumpable one.
without talking about aerial moves, if bmg add this rework to the game, i'm pretty sure that would make the gs fit into the game and being more of a fair weapon.

funnily enough, the greatsword nerfs that happened in 2021 weren't actually that bad. sandstorm even said that after the initial nerfs he still considered it the best weapon. it was more so what happened to other weapons that made it fall from it's throne.
Wonder how it will turn out in the new patch. Probably just fine. I think the weapon is really strong as of this moment.

Bro greatsword is really hard to use
Take some time with it. Use the tutorial and you’ll learn. The entry barrier to learn as well as the climb up is significantly more difficult compared to other weapons for sure. The main advantage of Greatsword is no one else knows how it works either in most Elos
