I'm enjoying this lens on my A7C. I also have the 17-28 and nothing wrong with its IQ but I found that I always wanted it to go longer and 20mm is just fine for me on the wide end. I am pairing the 20-40 up with either my 85f1.8 prime or my Tamron 28-200 for a great lightweight travel kit.

I had the 16-28 f/2.8 GM and downsized to the Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 I like the compact size over the GM and generally it's great I do miss the 35mm on the long end too much tho, I would love to have 40mm on the long end; I'll probably switch again to this lens, it seems like the perfect fit!

Nice video as always. Great practical examples. I have the 17-28 and after shooting with the 20-40 for a few weeks, I am thinking of switching too. It pairs perfectly with the 35-150 which I have also tested and love but do not own. I currently own the 28-75G2 and the 70-180 G1. So my three lens set up would become a two lens set up!

Thank you so much! And I use the moment variable nd filters 2-5 stops and also a cinebloom 10% to add the softer look. You’d be covered with the outdoor shoots with that! I’ve also been using the freewell variable ND Mist filter 2-5! It’s only like $100 and it’s worked nicely too for photo and video!

  • @CC-gt3ro

I wouldn’t switch my 17-28 for this new 20-40. The 17-28 has better internal zoom for my gimbal. 17 is great for vlog and architecture. The 17-28 is more expensive and it’s not for nothing..the quality of 17-28 is better than the 20-40. Some reviewer have notice few issues with the 20-40 like losing focus during zoom for example.
But my main usage of the 17-28 is with the gimbal, and i can change the zoom without forcing my gimbal motors.

Hi! I have this lens, and I have heard that there is vignetting at 20mm with a 67mm nd filter. I'm also worried about there being vignetting if I use a step up ring. What nd filter and/or step up ring do you use with this lens? I was looking at getting the Polar Pro Peter McKinnon filter with mist. Should I get that (if so what size), or should I get a different filter? Thanks!

given you have used both A7S3 and A7IV, which one u would recommend as a travel hybrid camera ? a7c mark 2 or ZVE1. i think that having view finder will help me in seeing my composition better since i need to wear glasses to read. or u think that would not really matter since i will need these to read from LCD menu on both cameras

Thanks very helpful, Im looking at getting the A7R5 and the 20-40. Im hoping the 30mp crop will give me a 60mm.
It's the new rear screen that sold it to me, plus I believe the auto white balance actually is usable on the A7R5 according to a few reviews.
I currently work with 20mm for interior (not to distorted) 24mm (small groups of people - plus environment portrait) 50mm (product and portrait).
