  • GM now allows us to us our tech2 scan tools for programming with SPS2. This is great for the older class 2 communication vehicles. Many newer programming devices are too fast or deliver the programming at the wrong time so it is best to use an older J2534 device or better yet the TECH2. You will need a functioning TECH2 scan tool ( I have not tried this with tech2 clone), You will need the DB9 serial to RJ45 adaptor, rj45 cable, a usb to serial Skyspan adaptor if your laptop doesn't have the DB9 serial port.

    I need to locate a used Tech2. My first ever programming job (just about 12 months ago) was a 2005 Saturn and I could not complete it with my Cardaq +3.

    I don't know how general mechanics navigate this complex and changing dynamic, right to repair legislation notwithstanding. From a DIY perspective it is completely intimidating.

    Was there anything you had to do to get the Tech2 to communicate with your laptop? My laptop is not detecting the Tech2. Using all the same cables and adaptors that worked before back when I was using TIS2000 on DVDs. Only difference is the laptop and WIN 10pro vs WIN XP.

    Hello hanks for your video
    what is the coverage of TECH 2. Does it cover even latest module such as GM 2021 and up

      I have only tried it on a few vehicles but I think coverage is up to 2007

      Let me clarify. I believe programming coverage goes up to 2007 but the tech2 can talk to some vehicles up to 2013 for diagnostics. A SPS2 subscription is still required for programming with the tech2.

      @@ThePracticalMechanic thanks for your prompt reply. I own Autel maxiflash from my lost Maxysis elite, VVDI2 J2534 as well cardaq m from drewtech and was wondering if there is any need for me to get tech2.

      @@DFWAuto_Hack the cardaq-m was always good to me on the older vehicle. It’s an older device and was developed when there was more of these trucks on the road. Tech2 has other benefits besides programming if you see many of these vehicles.

      @@ThePracticalMechanic i did not even know the cardaq was that old. I guess the expensive proce i paid in 2017 made me think it was a recent device lol. I kind of noticed that they were pushing the cardaq 3 for a lower price that i paid for cardaq M. painful lol. I hope my cardaq M can still handle all the programmings i want to get into. Not sure about Can FD and 2021 + vehicles

    What cable are you using to go from tech 2 to laptop

    • @ThePracticalMechanic
      @ThePracticalMechanic  4 місяці тому

      It’s basically an Ethernet cord with an adapter on the computer side so it could connect to the serial connection. If your computer doesn’t have a serial port an additional keyspan serial adaptor will be required.

      I added some links in the description for the the cable and serial adaptor.
