Ahh memories :) O'Connor was owned and started by my late great grandmother Mary Styra and my late grandfather John Martin. He owned and operated it pretty much up to several months before he passed away in 2010. Many 5 pin bowling firsts at this center, and a lot of great memories there too !
@David Martin Winner of a video, I been tryin to find out about "how do you get a strike in bowling?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Piylivern Remarkable Predominance - (should be on google have a look ) ? It is a great one off guide for discovering how to up your bowling game quickly without the headache. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my friend got excellent success with it.
I recognize the 2 hosts. Ian Cameron used to do the Pin Pointers segment for the 1987 Championship 5 bowling tournament on CBC. He also competed on it in 1989. Brenda's husband Dave Pankoff won the CBC tournament that same year.
Thanks so much for this!! Great video!! I haven't bowled in too many years, didn't want to go out there and embarrass myself. I'm going to go practice right away. A long time ago I used to be a pretty good bowler
After 1 shitty game I sat with my friends and watched this on my phone, my next game I was up 100 pts and they were wondering how the fuck did I improve so much lol. Really good tips.
i never knew 5 pin bowling existed until i saw it on youtube. we do candlepin type bowling in massachusetts and new england which uses 10 pins. tenpin and duck pin also use 10 pins. this is different.
5 pin is uniquely Canadian and was invented by a Canadian in Toronto in 1909. Just like 9 pin is only played in Texas. Candlepin is also played in New Brunswick & Nova Scotia. Duckpin in Canada is also different than the American version. Our version adopted the 5 pin rubber band, which makes it easier to score. Canadian duckpin is primarily played in Quebec. Standard tenpin is played in most Canadian provinces. 5 pin is played in every province and 2 of 3 territories. There is a 2 lane 5 pin alley in Nunavut, but it's near the north pole at CFS Alert, so only military personnel can access it.
Long time bowler in Edmonton Alberta, we used to have a few places that had the double D setters, Rosslyn, Coral, West end bowl etc, and I think a place in Red deer had the Brunswick A50 machines
It's possible but be careful because that probably means the pins aren't set properly. It happens a lot at my bowling center because our pinspotters are wonky on a couple lanes.
Why does the corner pin always stay up most of the time. Looks like a perfect strike. Or the 2 corner pins stay up. Also would you have good tip 🤔 which bowling balls better. Plastic or rubber and does wghr matter?
Blimey... complicated delivery to do it properly. Here in the UK, West Country skittles is 'the game' to play and one develops ones own style. Great to see differing games and styles I must say. Is it possible to 'bolt' a ball through a full pack? It's all too-easy in our skittle games - and yes, a score of 'zero' after three balls is not that uncommon!

"Hi Kevin!"
"Hi Brenda," picks up phone and looks down.
Best scene ever!!!

Excellent video! It has a lot of points that I have missed. Even though I'm a candlepin bowler, these tips work for me. Thank you!
This man about to make me the staff party athlete

@@vintagesupermarkets5210 thnx for the info.
Went to many bowling parties here loved it! Sad they tore it down to build condos.

I recommend plaza bowl. Its a gem.
Wow this video had me in stitches. It was fucking hilarious.
i only use this video for the stretches
fuck yeah, this is exactly what I needed, stretches included. :D
Watched this then in my first game ever shot 135
I just qualified for the YBC Nationals, this is my third time. Any advice?
The lesson starts at the 8 minute mark folks
he never spoke of the 2-3 and 2 spare left and right
Hey Ian have you ever got it between 5 and 3 pins on the right side without knocking any pins over when I have done it twice already

It's very possible to do. The pins are 18 inches apart...it's not wonky lanes that allows the balls to go through its the angle you throw at the pins.
@@Xrblazerx I'm a left-handed bowler with quite a hook. I go through the 3 and 5 two or three times a month. Damn frustrating.
Hilariously outdated video with useful info for a beginner.

Got a DUI going to bowling, then find out they don't serve O.V.. Lol

Was Calgary YBC at Chinook Centre in the early to late 90s
Is he crossing the feet over?
Sadly, the O'Connor Bowl is no more. It was demolished to make way for more God damn condos.

that's happening down in massachusets and all over new england to our candlepin lanes. it sucks.

This 26 minute video could have been 8 minutes
