Great Video Andy, I would just like to add that not all float switches use the same colour coding, so its probably best to check with a tester which is normally closed or open wire.then split the live feed to pump through the float switch. have a good weekend mate.

Hi Nick, the wiring I used in the video was given to me from an electrician friend, I haven't had any issues and nobody has said they've had problems mate. Don't quote me but I think it's mostly usa that use the neutral wire instead of live but don't know why. Andy
Hi Andy lve got a submersible pump with a bad float switch. I've bought a new float switch to replace the broken one but not sure what wires got to what wires. I've got brown, blue, green/yellow one the pump side and brown, black, blue one the switch side. I just need to know how to make this work thanks.
Hi Daniel I've never used i submersible pump but the wiring diagram i used came from speaking to a qualified electrician so anything other that what i showed i wouldn't be comfortable advising on. It would be best if you can speak to an electrician sorry i can't help you with this. Andy

I'm not a qualified electrician so I can only advise on the system I have in place which I got from an electrician. Hi the advise in the video all came from a qualified electrician friend of mine so I'm unsure if it would work the same on an extension cord with multiple plugs in it. I can't see why it wouldn't work the same but i would contact a electrician yourself just for calcification. Andy

Hi, I'm surprised you haven't got an earth wire on the pump. The wiring diagram I used was from a qualified electrician for a 3 wired pump. I cant advise on your setup sorry. My advice would be to contact an electrician for advice. Andy
Hi Jamie, I put covers over my pond in the winter and all my pipework is insulated. The lowest temperature I've had was around 4c. As a precaution I have leak sensors in the filterhouse which also reads the temperatures and alerts me via an app of leaks or if the temperature drops below 2c. So hopefully I will be notified before any problems. I was thinking of getting a small electric inline heater that I could fit in an emergency 👍
Hi great video and easy to follow, do you know how to revers the float switch so it will kick in when up right and cut off when flat? Trying to set up a sump for waste water in a barrel, pump in the base and float switch near the top, so it would work in reverse and pump water out when barrel full? Many thanks

Hi Alan, I only have the float switch connected to one item (The pump) I am going to make alterations to the filter house next year, one of which is to use the switch to cut off the uv like your wanting to do, your the second person to ask me this and I've advised talking to an electrician and getting back to me. I've only ever connected the float switch to a pump only so I'm not sure of the correct wiring your asking for, as soon as I know the answer I'll either post it or make a video of how to do it. When the float switch is upright it makes the circuit to the electrical switch box which powers everything connected to it. When the float switch drops it disconnects the power to the electrical box which cuts power. Once the float switch is level again power is restored
Is there a "special" type of switch for this project ? All the suppliers i have asked say that their switches cannot be made to turn OFF a pump only to turn it ON, as in emptying a sump etc, and they are identical to the one you show in the video.I intend to fit one to turn off everything as i do not want my UV's to burn out by getting hot if i should spring a leak somewhere.
Hi mate, I dont think it's a special switch, I got mine from machine mart, if you're in the uk. It's a standard float switch with a ball bearing inside, the switches can operate both ways, turn on or off just wired differently. The way mine is wired the live goes from the power source through the float switch and connects to the pump, when the float dips down the ball bearing drops and cuts power. Regarding cutting power to pump and uv I'm not sure of the wiring, its something I need to do also. The wiring diagram shown is what I use for disconnecting the pump only. Hi Wes, not sure what you mean by mess up... when the power is restored my vari pump auto returns to the last settings. The Po59 is the percentage reading, ie my pump is set to work at 59%. To give me the flow required. Hope that helps 👍🏻

On you video you only have 3 cables but to wire it to the control box there must be more connections. I'm missing something here & cant move on until i understand.

Hi pal, just a quick question the wire with the plug is this a plug then used to plug in and power the pump and float or is this wire with the plug the main power line l, basically I have my pump plugged in outdoor waterproof socket do I unplug this and wire as shown in a junction box then have the plug coming out of the junction box and plug into the socket or is the plug you are showing the main power line to the electric socket

@@DerbyKoi maybe you can give me a little Help, I have a 3 inch bottom drain what I was running gravity straight to a easy pod then pumped back to the pond through 1.5inch 10000lph pump. I decided to get a Cetus sieve to go to the bottom drain instead through the 3 inch then pumped to the easypod both on the same ground level then from the easypod pumped back to the pond. Getting both pumps to run at the exact same is a nightmare :( both are vari pumps and Evan adjusting both by 1 point up or down there is still a tiny diffrence where over the space of a day is either water raising slightly in the easypod worrying it will overflow so adjust it back 1 point then it's the opposite it's running too low level water in the easypod, so I'm trying to adjust it tiny bits with the ball valve and it's a nightmare so where the flow switch is coming in is because I'm worried the water will overflow in the easypod at some point and gush water put all over so trying to eliminate this with the switch inside the easypod hopefully to cut the pump out if it gets too high. Am I doing the right thing lol. Starting to regret the sieve but It is working perfect just a nightmare at the minute where am I going wrong?
@@MichaelA-db5uu you are never going to balance that system, you can't pump to filtration and pump return. Your system needs to be either pump fed and gravity return or gravity fed and pump return. @@DerbyKoi I was starting to think that myself that the setup is wrong but all I have done is copied a diagram from the EA Manuel shows the sieve and nexus on the same water level and two pumps one from Cetus to the Nexus and nexus back to the pond but maybe I'm missing something. Hi mate, I've wired several float switches but never come across that wiring, I've asked on koi groups and they're none the wiser, I've research the forums and I have got a wiring diagram that I can send if you message me on my Facebook page. But I cant guarantee its authenticity, I've never wired a switch with those colours. I can chat more if you message me and I'll try and help.
I painted my float switch black to make it less conspicuous (had to look up that spelling) with some special pond safe paint. Took a few coats but came out well.....Just a thought :-)

Hi craig i dont have a counter weight mine is held in place just under the capping stone with about 5" of cable in the pond so it will turn off when the water drops about 4 inches. I believe the weights are used in things like sumps if you want the switch to work the other way round ie turning the pump on when the water rises hope that helps. Stay safe jobs a goodun👍

@@DerbyKoi I was starting to think that myself that the setup is wrong but all I have done is copied a diagram from the EA Manuel shows the sieve and nexus on the same water level and two pumps one from Cetus to the Nexus and nexus back to the pond but maybe I'm missing something. I Don't have Facebook I dont do social media this is as far as I go UA-cam haha.
Heyup again, can you clear something up for me please. My float switch arrived but it does not have a black wire, It has Red, Yellow & Green. I'm at a bit of a loss...............Thanks in advance.
Hi mate, I've wired several float switches but never come across that wiring, I've asked on koi groups and they're none the wiser, I've research the forums and I have got a wiring diagram that I can send if you message me on my Facebook page. But I cant guarantee its authenticity, I've never wired a switch with those colours. I can chat more if you message me and I'll try and help.
I painted my float switch black to make it less conspicuous (had to look up that spelling) with some special pond safe paint. Took a few coats but came out well.....Just a thought :-)
Hi Ray, you can buy black ones but they charge quite a bit more which dont make sense 😔. I'm not too bothered and it will weather slightly, but for those wanting black your idea is a good one. Thanks mate, stay safe 👍
Great video, gonna order one of these. I see they sell counter weights for them. Do u need a counter weight or not?
Hi craig i dont have a counter weight mine is held in place just under the capping stone with about 5" of cable in the pond so it will turn off when the water drops about 4 inches. I believe the weights are used in things like sumps if you want the switch to work the other way round ie turning the pump on when the water rises hope that helps. Stay safe jobs a goodun👍
