He doesn't do his research - He's ill advised
And he doesn't foam aloud, like those other guys
BUT WAIT! this plagiarism could land him in court,
Yet it's apparently a trip report

I realized there's lots of tourist railroads in Pennsylvania, the West Chester Railroad, New Hope Railroad and Strasburg Railroad just to name a few.

Great video, it's like you traveled back in time. Beautiful countryside.

I rode on the Strasbourg railroad in a caboose! It was very fun!

Many thanks for posting. I've been vaguely aware of the East Broad Top for years, but I think this is the first video I've seen of it. More generally, it's great to see the line revived again after the long shutdown, and now with probably the most optimistic future it's ever had.

Years ago, I was a telecommunications technician with Canadian National. Back in the mid 70s I worked in Northern Ontario and often rode freights. When I was in the caboose, I was usually up in the cupola, but on one overnight trip, I tried sleeping on a bench but was occasionally tossed off by the motion. On another trip, while in the middle of nowhere, I had an excellent view of the northern lights from the cupola!

the point of a Caboose was to provide back end security to the train and a place for crews to rest (especially in the days before 12 hours became the maximum for a shift and crews were on as long as it took for the train to reach it's destination.
also, the stove if I'm not mistaken would actually be coal fired instead of wood.

the rear end crew on a caboose was responsible for watching the train from the rear,,,,,looking our for 'hot box's' and or other problems,,,,,,,before radios and air brakes, trainmen and or conductors ran across the top of the box cars and set the handbrakes on each car in order to stop the train. It gets kinda complicated in explaining how things worked in the beginning of the railroads.

Just a fact check that many others possibly did: The East Broad Top actually owns 6 steam locomotives, 1 being in the process of restoration and 5 being stored in the engine house, awaiting foreseeable restoration :)

    Just some information to help.
The EBT owns 6 steam locomotives 12-18, all 2-8-2 wheel arrangement. One locomotive is close to being finished, but there is no timetable for when it will operate

Cool video. I'm happy the EBT is open again. They are working on expanding the line quite a few miles.

Hey Classy Whale! East Broad Top Railroad Steam has returned! The current steam locomotive they are running now is a Mikado, and numbered 16! I would definitely recommend coming back here!

Thanks for featuring a trip on the East Broad Top railroad. I had ridden it years ago while it was a tourist train with a steam engine powering the train. The new group that bought the railroad has big plans in reactivating parts of the railroad that has not operated since it was shut down as a common carrier. They have done a great job of keeping the history of the line alive and deserve our support. If you are in the area when they operate I suggest you give them a ride to help support them in their rebuilding process. I also look forward to seeing the second video about the trolley museum which also has a nice collection of trolleys and has one of my favorite trains I used to ride on regularly, the old Read Arrow Lines Liberty liner that ran on the Norristown line out of 69th street Terminal in Upper Darby, Pa.

This was abandoned for a few years, right? My dad rode this with my brother in the late 90s.

@@trainsdestinations3960Yes, the line was abandoned for a few years recently until the new non profit volunteer group bought the railroad. They have major plans to rebuild the line and even run on parts of it that have not had a train since it was first abandoned as a common carrier.

This is a great video presentation. 3ft gauge was quite popular in Ireland and is still used in the areas where they extract peat though that probably will not be around for much longer. They do a great job at the railroad and also the streetcar museum which the people are eagerly awaiting. We like the way you include other people in your videos. Thank you very much for providing us with such interesting video presentations.

Too bad you missed the days when as a freight train conductor or rear brakeman you often rode a caboose going 60-70 mph. The slack suddenly running in or out at that speed or even less could be like playing "crack the whip" with a freight train.

I think it would be awesome if some wealthy industrialist would open a factory
that offered Tiny Homes styled like those great old cabooses. I'm thinking they would sell rather well.
