I put the 3" spacers on a 2010, but at the same time put in new upper control arms and I did not tighten them down all the way (on the frame) until I had everything installed and the tire back on and it sitting on the ground. At this point is where the upper control arms will be "loaded" and I tightened them up and have had no issues with it. Watching the videos on this I had seen several other people with the same problems but this made it pretty simple. Stock upper control arms are pretty inexpensive and you are basically putting in new bushings and ball joints, so its a win win versus cost.

Great vid. I love smaller channels. It helps better to bang the side of the knuckle to drop it from the upper ball joint. Hammering on the shaft can damage the pocket the ball sits in causing it to wear faster. With the strut tension a couple taps on the side of the knuckle it'll pop right out.

I just did these same spacers and instead of a ratchet strap, I used a prybar to push down the upper control arm, worked perfectly! Nothing wrong with your way though. Great Vid!!!

Those bolts you got from the hardware store should be replaced soon. You need to get bolts rated for automotive applications. Those silver ones are just basic bolts. You need something with high sheer strength. If you hit a big enough bump those silver ones will sheer right off.
I recommend going to the local nut and washer shop.
    I like your truck.

Just installed the Supreme suspension 2" lift with 2" diff drop on my 05 dakota with a 4 wheel alignment afterwards and truck looks and drives great. I replaced the front struts at the same time but will need to change to longer rear shocks because it's pretty much maxed out with the extra 2" height. My only disappointment with Supreme was the crossmember drop brackets. They should have given you four sets to drop the bar evenly. I contacted them and they wouldn't even sell me more brackets. I'm going to have to get a machine shop to make me more i guess.

    • @matthew1er
      @matthew1er  2 роки тому

Yeah the only disappointment for me after I installed everything was on bumps on the freeway or when I'm driving fast you can feel the spring hitting the control arm or something. I got my diff drop kit from ebay so I don't know if it is the same type that supreme sales.. did you have to lower your skid plate to make room for the front diff?

@@matthew1er my truck didn't have a skid plate and I'm pretty sure that's the same diff drop kit i got from Supreme. My truck has some odd features it had a 1" factory lift on it so my hubs are different. It has the 4.7 ho engine and a 3 speed automatic transmission. Which wasn't even an option so i end up running the vin # for a Lot of parts.

Hey man, nice video! I'm planning on doing the same kit on my 09 Dakota. I want to be prepared. Do you have detailed info on how tall those skid plate spacers were that you used and what the ID was, and which hardware you used for it? For those crossmember bolts, I know you said like an inch and a half longer. I'm sure I can measure them up when I get the kit but I'd like to have all this stuff together when I start. Any chance you remember the length of those bolts too? Thanks in advance, keep up the great work!

So I have an ‘05 Dakota I kinda want to do this to, but I gotta ask. What is the point of lifting the suspension two inches if you have to drop the front diff two inches? Doesn’t that just cancel out any ground clearance gained by the suspension lift?

Hey there, great video. I am in the process of installing the 2” front / 1” rear on my 08 Dakota now. Definitely not fun, but was able to get it in with a spring compressor. Were you able to remedy the upper control arm hitting the coil spring? I haven’t even gotten mine on the ground yet but I can totally see how that could be an issue. Not sure how others are able to do this without the UCA hitting the coil spring. Have you looked into stops or limiting straps for the upper arm so the travel stops before hitting the spring?

    • @matthew1er

It rides great unless you hit a big bump in the road then it bottoms out the front end very easy .I think the upper control arm hits the spring when the truck lifts up to fast. I wish a company would design a good lift kit for these trucks . It needs a lift spindle made for it and maby something to mount the lower control arm lower to give it a better ride and more suspension travel..

@@matthew1er I installed a differential drop kit on mine - probably the same model as you bought on ebay. Afterwards I installed a 3 in leveling kit in the front. My vehicle is a 2010 Dodge Dakota 4x4 4.8. I felt the need to share this to let you know it is possible albeit not easy to do. The trick to get the upper steering knuckle ball joint attached to the upper control arm was to use spring compressors on the springs while they are installed. This allows you to start the treads on it and secure the nut.

I know the thing I noticed, on your trust your spring to shock adjustment is way high. Before you sent the trains back maybe try lowering no 2in get everything installed and then raise them with your strut tool to your desired height. Just a thought.

Have you noticed a difference in fuel economy I have the same setup as you from Supreme suspensions at first I only installed the front 2 inch leveling kit and I still got great gas mileage a month later I installed the rear lift blocks and pinion angle shims and my fuel mileage dropped by 10 MPG!

I have an 05 quadcab 4x4 with the 4.7 and a three speed transmission. 0-70 It's nasty. But 14.3 is all it gets for milage. Loaded with gear or empty makes no difference. I've added a dual intake with dual cone filters, Flowmaster 3" pipes, new plugs, fuel filter, nothing helps the milage.

Easy Fix, I loosened the upper and lower control arms and then tightened the knuckle and the lower shock mount, then re tightened the control arms and the spacer fits fine.
Thx for the Heart and also I used a 3.5 inch spacer front and a 2.5 spacer rear.

I just received my 2in front lift kit and I measured the spacers and they are an 1.25 thick. Did I just get fucked or are they supposed to be only that thick. A card in the box said that it's a 2:1 ratio with blocks. Anyone else have any input please help.

You need to take down this video! Just because you weren't able to install the lift doesn't make the lift unstable. Others have done it (including me with a 3" lift)! There is already too much inaccurate info about the Dakota on the web.
