When you say 20' of grout does that mean that only the uppermost 20 feet of the well casing is filled with grout?

Correct. Anything below that is filled with well cutting grit

Have you ever used portland cement? Is there a difference when you should use cement over grout?

Nice job! Can you please help me understand the process: So the bottom 20 feet gets gravel or control sand, then the top 20 feet is grouted. What about the rest of the space? I know you can put a K packer to stop the grout at 20 feet but then how do you dump gravel all the way to the bottom? thanks.

This type of well is not gravel packed. Our region is solid granite. Gravel packaging is for areas where the bore hole could collapse due to unstable formations underground

Go to my channel and look at all the Well Related Videos. If your using float switches & a control box, you have either a Large System or you got the wrong stuff. . 3 wire pumps are old tech.
All you should need is the pressure switch & pump. Power in & out, which my Videos fully cover. My comments are all answered to help as well, read old comments on the Videos. Theres a "Well Q&A" Playlist on my channel, go check it out. I can do Video calls for $50 per hr. Or $10 per call up to 10 minutes. I've helped dozens of people this way. The comments on other videos will give you an idea of my willingness to help!

Why only 20' of grout? What does the grout actually do? Does the grout stop at the point that previous drill thing cleaned out around the casing?

Grout truly does nothing but satisfying the states requirements. So areas require 20ft. Others 50ft. Depending upon well type and classification. The 1990s & before most wells got a 3ft cement plug up top, and then the state got involved and created jobs for inspectors and special equipment needed by drillers. It was a legal way to push out the "good ole boy" drilling companies. If you didn't update & follow the new rules, they took your licenses.
