I couldn't see the underside of the firebox very well, but it looks like Mamod now puts on information like they didn't before! Also, is that a underbelly water tank, which I assume is not functional? Can't say I like the color! It's obviously a TE1A that has some dressing and a wired color! I am surprised that considering how much we pay for these, that the front end being bent back is far too common and should not be that way! My first thought is to return it, just because it appears that it was shipped that way, which appears to be due to bad placing and packing. Nice machine! Happy steaming! How about a video of it working, like running a water pump?
Under the firebox is a sticker of when it was made would probably burn off after being used a few times. The belly tank is non functional and is just for decoration. It certainly is different being in the blue I would have thought Mamod would have gone for the original green as they only do the dark green now. I have a problem with my 60th Anniversary roller with the front axle being bent and then packaged up. It wasn't alot of effort to bend it back but for what we pay for them I would have expected better quality control. Mamod had changed hands recently and a new limited edition model is in the works I will have to see how this next model is. The new owner seems to be listening to the community and has set up a spares website for people who want to fix and upgrade their Mamods.
Sadly I don't intend on running my limited edition models and I have so many and they all run the same basically. If you want to see my collection The Great Model Steam Fair 2022 is a video of it. The video is so under appreciated with the amount of effort that went into it thats why I haven't done one since ua-cam.com/video/kqfypQeuhmM/v-deo.htmlsi=uor6KG7K4w0jWzdOl I have gotten more since but have moved onto bigger things have a watch if your interested. There is everything from a steam powered ferris wheel to steam workshops and showmans engines.
Totally agree with you on that I think it would have been good if they did a limited run of a flat canopy and nut and bolt construction the closest they could achieve to the original 1963 engine
Great vide Nice engine wish they could have added the level plug back. I have a older te1a with a level plug on the back and the red knob it had never been ran before I bought it.
Thanks im glad you enjoyed the video, It would have been good if Mamod had put some more original features in resemblance to the original te1 it's good to see the lever whistle return. Personally I think a limited edition run of the nut and bolt flat should have been made or how closely it could be made in today's world. Your Mamod sounds nice I have one in my collection which is the same one of my favourites being very clean and good condition. My first one was a te1a with a water level on being a darker green. Mamod made quite a few models with different features on like your te1a with a water level plug or how it was constructed being nut and bolt or rivit. I have one of every type where a design feature was changed on the older models. I would say the best one Mamod ever done was the straight lever only made between 1967 to 1968 on the change over between the Te1/Sr1 to te1a/sr1a. They have more notches on the regulator so can be more finely controlled compared to later ones being 3 notches forwards and backwards.
It definitely is a nice model. Since mine is a display piece I have not run it yet. Some other models had bigger problems than mine with the sight glass leaking and Steam pipes not soldered on properly. I also had problems with my 50th anniversary roller which also had a bent front axle. Mamod definitely needs to do more on quality control before shipping them off. Since Mamod has changed hands recently hopefully the new owners take more pride in the models they are making if they do more limited edition engines. They have introduced a repair and a spares service so good changes are happening to the company.
Great video. I just bought one myself. Unfortunately, I'm having a hard time getting the burner tray to fit into the scuttle. It won't go in far enough to put it on the tractor. Is yours fitting OK?
Thanks im glad you enjoyed the video. My one was quite tight to get the scuttle onto the firebox but the burner tray was a bit tight getting it in. I would have a look at the handle of the tray the rods might need pushing together a bit allowing it to go further into the scuttle. I have had a few snags with some of the models I have got off Mamod in the past one being a bent front roller nothing too serious just had to bend it back carefully. Hope this helps you in getting it to fit let me know how you get on.
I know very sad indeed. I supported them till the end and got the last 4 years of limited edition models. It's a shame the new owner who brought the company a year ago couldn't turn it around he did pay off the debt but the company had gone too far. Then the laws with the tablet fuel came in and from what it seems like the landlord of the workshop was another issue putting up rent and not maintaining the property. I do hope the owner still keeps the spares side of the business going and still produces the occasional limited edition model.
Totally agree it's a nice model but Mamod have always used belts for the drive transmission. Wilesco's are much more refined and have plenty of pulling power. I do have a Mamod double acting cylinder which runs alot better but not as good as a wilesco I once had one running for 90 minutes on 1 water fill and a gas burner.
The paint job is bold the blue is nice but they could have gone with different colour wheels and canopy more realistic and not so cheap looking. The 60th roller is nice that was priced at £250 and they sold out this traction engine was around £300 and at the time a new Mamod was costing £240ish. I would say the quality control is not there as my front axle was bent on this and my roller when they arrived. No possible way they could have been damaged as the boxes had no damage marks so was packaged up damaged. Mamod has recently changed ownership as they was in debt and on the brink of going bust. Hopefully the new owners listen and learn from what the collectors want to see like improved quality control.
I read that it's now not possible to buy hexamine fuel tablets unless you have the government license! Mamod have said it won't be selling them or supplying with their models? They also state that the companies future is at risk! Looks like the end of the road for Mamod? The models now produced are of poor quality and its a shame this brand has gone down hill so far ! The prices are ludicrous now £300 for the 60th te1a? Bent axle ! I have only two Mamods now, a se3 Griffin and George and sp5 Griffin and George. These were built with pride !
I had a Mamod traction engine as a kid. Almost exact same design, but green, black and red...
A beautiful model. I want one.
It is a nice model indeed. Mine is currently on display with the 60th Anniversary Roller and 50th Anniversary Steam Wagon.

Nice video 👍, I think mamod have done a good job with this model..🙂
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Mamod definitely have done a good job with this model and the new features they have done.
Lovley to see! I think it would have been nicer to do the original pipe work with the regulator on the exhaust. Still, a lovley model

Nice model, the only snag was seeing the bent front axle, not very professional for a company to post like that!

As a toy it might exite a kid for a week or two.
Going out of business now 😩

😆
Optisch gelungen. Einzig der Transmissionsriemen um das linke Hinterrad ist total daneben, wie auch der oszillierende Zylinder. Da gibt es besseres.

For an 60 year anniversary model it’s a cheep looking unit in my opinion

Just buy solid fuel camping tablets
It’s a toy .
The axle should be bent
Maybe not 😂
