I think it's dope. My favorite floor tom sound of all time is Benny Grebs cannon of a floor tom on his Sonor Vintage kit. Something about Sonor floor toms when you tune them low, they turn into bass drums essentially...lol.
I really enjoy the lack of any fatiquing qualities in the sound. Quite often in a modern drum recording everything is very bright and aggressive. There is punch and power in your sound without grit or harshness. Wonderful!
That snare is an absoloute beast, the raw beech gives it such a beautiful crack when you lay into it, sonor seriously knows what theyre doing here, up there as one of the best for sure
That whole kit is fantastically crunchy and crisp. Ive been drumming on and off for 30 years. Our church had went from a CB-700 kit to a new sonor kit I was able to play on as a back up youth drummer. I could hear the stick snap and wholesome tones these toms would make and didn’t know until couple years ago why they sounded so good. They make there drum shells slightly smaller like a timpani drum to acquire that unique perfect sound.
I found my first kit. Im a percussionist in the Afro-Cuban, Caribbean Folkloric genre. But Ive wanted a drum kit to incorporate into my playing. Adam, you gave one of the best demos for kits I have watched. Love this kit.
I can name a few snares that outperform Benny's: the Ludwig Supraphonic and the Tama SLP Fat Spruce. Not every snare earns the status of a studio classic.
this is how the textbook version of the instrument presentation should look like. Lot of toms groove. Precision over speed. VERY GOOD JOB! And the camera work is a masterpiece 🔥🔥❤️
I have a birdseye azure sonor delite that always delivers. Everyone who hears my kit thinks its one of the best kits they have ever heard. Its also extremely easy to tune. You made a great choice!
Got my SQ1 in cruiser blue. Its the 22"bass drum, 1 up 1 down. It's absolutely mint! I play a lot of big band, swing, jazz and that extra boomy bass helps with a big brass section. can be dampened nicely with a little blanket for a punchier hit.
How have I not heard of you before? My head actually just exploded. You're playing is so fluid and stylish as well as entertaining. and I like your attitude you're not full of yourself. like you said in the beginning you're just going to play, and play you did. Well done my good man
@@jeremymusa1544 different people choose different brands becuase of preferences we can't say sonor is better than dw tama is better than yamaha etc. People buy a specific brand because they love the sound of it not because it's chosen of all people
@Old Man hendo that's right straight to the whole point because of preferences nothing is better than the other because all of them makes great drums and hardware
I always knew your next kit would be a Sonor. After seeing you play the kit at Drumeo, It just seemed like the perfect kit for your sound. Sonor is making the best drums on the planet imo, and they are honestly in a league of there own. Not to take away from any other company, but nothing sounds like a high end Sonor kit. Excellent choice Adam.
ikr! whenever i hear a sonor it just has a sound of it's own. gavin harrison , chris coleman ,benny greb they al have such an unique sound! I have an sq1 myself. The thing is a beast!
Beautiful kit! Sound is so punchy and Birch like. Love it. I have a Beech SQ2 with that same kick drum size and it sounds like a cannon even though its only 20". I'm going to have to look at the SQ1 series now too!
I’ve never seen a kick head on a floor Tom before. That’s actually pretty genius! Kind wish i played a genre where that we applicable lol very cool! Love that kit
Funny, I'm actually in the same position. I'm less of a rock player than a funk/fusion/jazz guy. I have a performance DW with a 22" BD; bought the Greb snare a year and a half ago. Love my DW, but Chris Coleman and Greb have both convinced me that my next kit will be an SQ1 or 2. Yours sounds a lot like theirs (love those floor toms) - so now it's time I got check my credit rating and start shopping...
I gave the E-Mad heads a go for my 16" tom, but found it to be to soft. Had a wild idea, and I'm now using it as a resonant head. Works wonderfully combined with an Evans Hydraulic Head (in read). Low as all hell, with little to no overtones.
Coming here after looking at the Tama Starclassic & Starclassic Performer. I think this is the drum sound I've been looking for. Dry, but full of body without being too resonant. Bass drum sounds NUTS too.
I'm looking to downsize and upgrade. I've got a six piece Premiere XPK from the end of '99 that's treated me well, but I'm just ready for a change. There are so many great companies out there, I think you can get a great kit no matter who you buy from as long as you choose wisely. I've never played a Sonor kit, but I'd love to try one sometime.
So I'm looking to upgrade my old PDP birch kit. I don't have the funds for something like this. Was looking at the AQ2 or DW Design 3 piece with the black nickel over brass snare. Having a very hard time deciding because I have no where to play either. One of my biggest concerns is hardware quality, this kit will need to last me quite a while.
Love this kit, not the 16" floor Tom sound. I know you mentioned u were going for a "kick" sound, but why? I would prefer to here that low, thundering tone! But, if that's your preference, cool! Congrats!
Hey man excellent drumming! Bringing back memories of when I unwrapped my sonor birch infinite... same deal, looks like yours doesnt have wrap too. after experimenting I prefer the thick clear rather than coated heads, cause the overtones are so musical... but yeah the coated have a really nice deep thump.
WOW starting at 4:08 I would Love to be able to ghost the snare like that while rolling the toms with the rh, any hints or practice tips on that technique? BTW I also love, love, love the sound of the SQ1's and am very close to buying a 3pc but I really cannot get myself to like any of the 4 colors offered.
motodrummer Just some basic groupings played around the kit my friend! I have several hours of lessons covering these concepts. Check out the Grouping and Phrasing Masterclasses at the link in the description. 👊🏼
Came for the review stayed for the solo! That kick sounded KILLER. Not a huge Meinl cymbal dude here. Thought they catered more towards heavy shit but I’ve been out other game for a long time. Played for a good 20 years but haven’t played for about 10 now. Eyeing some Sonor or possible some A&F.. if I can keep my money away from the modular synth for a while. Great paying man. I loved your solo.
You're late! I no longer use or own this kit, but you can hear my NEW drum set here: ua-cam.com/video/XIU8COT11NY/v-deo.html
Love the kit, man! Can't wait to hear more of it!
I think it's dope. My favorite floor tom sound of all time is Benny Grebs cannon of a floor tom on his Sonor Vintage kit. Something about Sonor floor toms when you tune them low, they turn into bass drums essentially...lol.
I think it works really well for what you're going after, another bass drum-ish sound. Great!
Uv1 eMAD, bro?

That snare is absolute butter! Thank you for breaking this "fat" snare sound trend. SNARES NEED TO POP. Congrats on the new kit.
to be fair benny greb himself plays a secondary snare with a BFSD and it sounds awesome, i think the snare just sounds amazing
@@ehsbe1056 as a secondary snare. but Im with reagan dykes. this fat snare sound trend is getting annoying. i
Last year I've been to their factory. I was blown away from the passion and how the employees functioned like a family...

Hello
Teacher rob!
This is one of sets I heard with one of really amazing sound ever! 🙏 Yes, it is Sonor, no doubts for over 140 years 🥁
I found my first kit. Im a percussionist in the Afro-Cuban, Caribbean Folkloric genre. But Ive wanted a drum kit to incorporate into my playing. Adam, you gave one of the best demos for kits I have watched. Love this kit.
I'm so jealous! My drum teacher when I was younger had a sonor and I've wanted one ever since! Best kit I've ever played on! Even compared to my DW!
awesome playing btw
:o
So get one one day.
I got a 22 10 12 14 16 configuration and this kit is AWESOME !
oh awesome sounding , very nice
One of the few americans to pronounce Sonor correct! Great sound and playing!
NICE!!! That kit sounds really hip and tight, great contrast with your washy, dark Meinl pies!! and 20'' is literally the most versatile size EVER!!
the best advertisement for a product I saw in life was that!
There is no snare like the Benny Snare. What a sound.
I can name a few snares that outperform Benny's: the Ludwig Supraphonic and the Tama SLP Fat Spruce.

Sonor > Dw any day any line. Of course that’s my opinion. Beautiful kit
@Old Man hendo what are you gonna do about it? Point at door 1 more? No one cares brotha.
@Old Man hendo Maybe I've just heard a bad bunch of demos but every time I hear DW's it sounds to me like its just hitting the top head
@Old Man hendo I was listening to the collectors series, but in general you might be right, I don't know

Great video very thorough, very impressive drumming as well ! I’m getting this same kit soon, this is the only colour I’d get. Birch baby!!
Dude you are such an incredible drummer. I love how musical your phrasing is. Definitely one of my top favorites
Great sounding kit and I especially love that snare!
Oh man the whole kit sounds beautiful but I love the sound of that snare
Great playing, clean, tight, and musical
That snare!!!! Not to mention the playing. Beautiful man
Beautiful sounding kit and it's gorgeous!
This video got me thinking about sq1, and so a year after I got my own sq1 this week. And it sounds even better in person :)
LORD GOD that kit sounds and looks amazing! Congrats. Love your vids
Congratulations on the new kit man sounds hot! You keep showing me that anyone can do this!
This is probably the best sounding birch kit I've ever heard
grabbed a sonor prolite in silver sparkle this year... loving the sonor drums. these sound great too!
Great drumming ! Sounds excellent
The intro, that’s the way i feel...I’m down to get an SQ1...thanks!
Simply amazing
That snare sounds absolutely awesome
Wow! Gorgeous sounding kit!
Gotta love that Greb Snare!
Adam, you are a monster, great my brother, thank you so much for this video, God Bless you man
I love the Sonor birch. I play it.❤
Congrats on the new kit my man. Absolutely beautiful 👊

Yeah what Sonor offers in the SQ2 line is a far cry from the bullshit SJC calls "custom".

I’m picking up the thin shell birch SQ2 but as always, Sonor drums are just absolutely brilliant!
Adam, your playing is great! you are evolving fast man! And the drums and cymbals sound really great!
Godly tone, especially that snare !

These Drum's Sound Amazing. I've always Loved Sonor Drum's. I've been a Pearl Drummer for Over 20 Yrs. But Who Knows I Might Buy a Sonor Next??????
Sounds good. I had a 60s tear drop set and also a jungle kit. Sonor puts out great kits that look good too.
Man, this is excellent! ...love Sonor drums forever. I'm totally into heavy beech.
Ufff! Great Kit! The sound is so big! I like the dimensions!
That snare... my god 🖤
I switched to a Sonor SQ2 (Heavy Birch) over 10 years ago. I definitely understand why you prefer Birch over Maple.
Kit sounds great, especially the kick and snare!
this setup sounds great man.
Sounds great and nice playing!
What an incredible and awesome kit Adam, sound is brilliant!👍🤛
LOVE IT. I just bought Sonor drums also
Awesome sound man, beautiful tuning! :)
Beautiful kit and it sounds amazing!
Nice kit man. I'm a former Sonor endorser and still love their stuff. Your kit sounds really nice
Nice video Adam! Thanks. Once you go Sonor it's hard to go back to anything else.
Dude! your playing deserves a SQ1 (or a SQ2) with no Doubt!
That Birch sound is my favourite ever!!!
GREAT TASTE

Woooo with the cymbals, those sized drums, finish and positioning… one of the neatest I’ve seen. 🥸

Beautiful kit! And at last a good hardware!
Great kit! Good luck. I'm thinking of getting an SQ1 kit myself.

Loved the emad on your previous kit...on this kit, I think you need to let that 16" sing!
