Fun Fact: There were two players from the 1983 Bills that would be key contributors to the Bills' Super Bowl teams in the early-90's: LB Darryl Talley (who was a rookie in '83) and G Jim Ritcher. Jim Kelly would have been a third, had he signed with the Bills in '83. But he opted to play in the USFL and wouldn't officially join the Bills until '86 (after the USFL folded).
There was a bright spot for the 1983 Bills: Their 38-35 overtime win against the Dolphins in Miami broke a 16-game winless streak (0-15-1) in the Orange Bowl. The Bills' previous win in Miami was in 1966, the Dolphins' inaugural season.
He was a horrible CFL coach too. He coached Sacramento and refused to use the unlimited motion that’s allowed and failed to realize that Canadian football and American football are similar but not the same.
@@SuperTugz 🎯100%. Those are my all-time favorite sports uniforms. Perfect. I also loved it when they wore white jerseys with blue pants at home. I wish they would go back to those exact uniforms. The colors they have now are a little blah and the red seems a little purplish. Also much prefer the blue face masks.
1984 is the first year where I can vividly recall football, as I turned 8 in November that year, so I don't remember this stupid shit lol. I can only imagine how my dad was probably screaming at the TV with his brothers, drunk and pissed off - when he was his funniest!🤣🤣🤣
I was 14 years old when I was watching this game with my father and godfather. I was a huge Joe Cribbs fan and I remember asking both my father and godfather "WHY aren't they using Joe Cribbs more?". Even I could see it was a mistake and disaster, at the age of 14. Kay Stephenson was a SHITTY head coach. The Bills had two back to back 2-14 seasons. He regularly was the target of distain from the fans in Buffalo and fans were always asking "WHY is this guy still the head coach?"
I remember in 2013 My Beloved Seahawks played the Rams in St Louis on Monday Night missing two of our offensive linemen. Pete Carroll loves to run the ball, and the Rams had a ferocious pass rush (pre-Aaron Donald!). Yet we called a lot of passing plays that night. One resulted in an 80-yard touchdown pass. The remaining plays (run and pass) netted about 55 yards. We somehow won the game 14-9, but my vision of a VLT blurred a lot that night.
Fred got to play for two of the best coaches in Bills' history in Chuck Knox and Marv Levy; but two of the worst as well, Kay Stepehnson and Hank Bullough.
@tygrkhat40 nobody could quite do malappropisms quite like Hank. After a big loss he said of the other team that they really took the sail out of our winds.
@@midwestguy1983 Smerlas said that when Bullough and Levy were the coaches, he kept a dictionary in his locker. With Bullough, it was to make sure the words existed; with Levy, to see what they meant.
I'm not sure what Stephenson was thinking about. Taking away his top offensive player, Joe Cribbs, made no sense whatsoever. Having Joe Ferguson go deep more often than Raiders QBs did when the Bills were trailing by only 7 points was very weird.
Kay was a lousy coach, but I will always respect him for getting the Bills first win in the Orange Bowl since the 1960s. Other than that, yeah. . . He was bad
Some of the blame has to go to Joe Ferguson. He was a solid veteran quarterback. Why didn’t he audible into running plays? The worse that could’ve happened was that he would have gotten yelled at by the coach. He certainly wouldn’t of been benched because they had no depth at quarterback with those two other guys
at least a few pieces of bills four s b teams were in place like richter, talley. don't worry, marv and kelly, thurman, bruce, and reed were on the way.
I remember this game! I listened to it on KMPC radio. Kay Stephenson is the worst head coach in the history of the Buffalo Bills. Not even close. Horrid.
What's funny is that they could have had Marv Levy three years earlier. He was just unfairly fired in KC by Jack Steadman, the team president who didn't know anything about football.

I’m surprised you didn’t have your “video editor” show every Bills run in the second half.
My boy loves his “ if you did nothing but spiked the ball“ reference.
It would have been strange if they had just spiked the ball into the ground every play.
You posted this because of tonight's game between the Bills and Rams, didn't you? How fitting.
“I get it, Fuad.”
“Ho hooooooo!”
10:28. Our favorite sentence
The following season, the Bears lost a game to the Cowboys, with Ditka not giving Payton carries in the second half.

This unofficial Official Jaguar Gator 9 historian will remind everyone you made a video about the last Bills-Rams game prior to this one in 1980.
You know it’s bad when your INT/running play ratio is 5-1
Those are the best uniforms in Bills history.
Yes! With the blue facemasks and blue pants combo, they wore white at home often in the 80s too like the Cowboys and Dolphins often do

Mine is exactly the same just one year earlier in 83.

Looks like Buffalo should’ve kept “Ground Chuck” Knox as coach lol

There's a reason why Fred Smerlas sarcastically refers to Stephenson as "the brain cell".

The Bills did this again a couple years ago throwing 17 straight times to start the game....but it worked cause Josh Allen.
Bills got the super bowl this year

Marshall Lynch agreed
Yeah
Getting desperate with only trailing by 7 with an entire half is just dumb

Hank Bullough says "Hold my beer."
Rams won this game over Bills 41-17 as Bills QB Joe Ferguson threw 4 interceptions in the 2nd half.
Kay Stephenson is one of the worst head coaches of all time!
Let me say this the Buffalo bills is even going to get to the super bowl or they going to win the super bowl either or
Stephenson is one of the worst coaches in Bills history, and there have been some bad ones.
