"You've got to promise not to stop when I say when." Bob Dylan said he wished he had written that line. I can't think of higher praise. Dave Grohl is a talent for the ages. 💜☮
"Breathe out, so I can breathe you in, hold you in" *swoon/sigh*
My favorite line in any song ever.
I see a lot of reaction vids and you are quickly becoming my favorite.
I appreciate you taking the time to learn so much about these songs, the origin , bands / singers, etc. and finding the stories behind the recording process and listening and giving credit to all the band members whom hardly ever get acknowledged. Thanks!
I second that!
I third that!
Yeah I love how he takes the time to go through the Wikipedia pages. He's mentioned before he thinks it might be annoying or something but he does a great job of curating the information there and adding in enough of his own commentary that it's really engaging for me even if I already know all the details/history of something.
“Everlong” was inspired by Dave’s romance with Louise Post. The name of her band is “Veruca Salt”.
And if you listen in between the verses, you can hear a women's voices going "doo doo doo doo doo doo" That's her.
Another great band
I actually had no idea that was what inspired this song, and I freaking love Veruca Salt!
I was today’s year old when i found this out. comment section educating me!! 🎉🎉🎉
Just do "The Pretender" next and get it out of the way. 💯 Its a BEAST MODE song... but I believe that "This is a Call" or "Monkey Wrench" are still the coolest shit they ever made. 😎💯
You nailed it with the pretender and ruined it by saying the next 2 haha. MW isnt their worst but its just nothing special. Any alt rock/heavier poppunk band could have made that song. Learn to fly is a much better example of their cool shit.
@@mikephillips1043 all my life ill stick around and aurora are all must listens too
oh and stacked actors that’s one of their best songs
Foo Fighters is my favorite current band. So many hits. My fave is probably Best of You. There is an acoustic version of this song that is so different, you could do a second reaction. Also love The Pretender. I cried when Taylor died. He was one of my faves and a HUGE Queen fan.
Foo Fighters are part of a small collection of bands that lasted for so long that has continuously put out new music, not just compilations of old work.
Surj fronted Foo Fighters at some live event for MTV and they covered ‘Holiday In Cambodia’ and it was really impressive.
You should check out the song that started it all "I'll Stick Around". After Kurt's death, Dave was recording with a friend. His friend did an interview at a radio station and played that song. It was so good a record company offered him a record contract and a bidding war started. He didn't even have a band yet. He brought on Pat Smear from Nirvana and the Drummer and Bassist of a Band called Sunny Day Real Estate (William Goldsmith and Nate Mendel), but the first self titled LP is Dave's demo tape, it is all him he plays every instrument and sings. If you want to hear some of the others of that album, "Big Me", "This is a Call", "For all the Cows", "Alone + Easy Target".
Dave’s book he wrote is amazing. He’s a great story teller
Fantastic book!
You should watch the movie they made a few years ago. It is HIGH-larious
Watch the video when Nandi Bushell challenges Dave to a drum duel. It will blow you away.
The coolest drums from anysong post 1990 probably.
Awesome reaction of my favorite song!!!!😊😊😊😊
Shinedown - "Cut The Cord" 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Find the UA-cam video for the LA concert 8/26/2021 where Nandi Bushell was invited to play drums on Everlong. Gives you all new appreciation for the killer drums on this song.
Also, the video was directed by Michel Gondry.. french visual genius that worked with the White Stripes, Red Hot, Bjork, Daft Punk, Chemical Brothers. Even directed Dave Chappelle's Block Party. Did the movie Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless mind. Real visual genius.
You’re funny. Love your reactions.
Dave worked on the “songs for the deaf” album of the band “queens of the Stone Age” which is one of the best albums in my mind(almost in the league as dark side of the moon) queens of the Stone Age is an epic bands
If you want to see Dave live playing the drums(actually murdering the drms) live with queens from that album ua-cam.com/video/dOsmG-sufNc/v-deo.html
This song, Everlong, live at Wembley in 2008 is my favorite version. Well worth a listen - totally different vibe & just phenomenal.
“Best of you” will seal the deal with you. I promise 🔥
Check this song out live at wembley stadium. Epic live performance
Love them! So many great songs and yes, they sound amazing live and so many options to choose from.
To start your Foo Fighters journey you sure did pick the GOAT track. "Gotta promise not to stop when I say when" best line in lyrics evah, my hubby and I sing it to each other all the time
Aurora and generator are my favorite foo fighter songs. Both underrated songs
Next to Chris Cornell Dave is right up there in my mind/soul forever. Foo vids are always awesome
Foo Fighters are amazing. And Dave is probably the nicest guy in rock n roll.
Check out their songs The Pretender, Monkey Wrench or maybe check out them play live. Wembly Stadium is an amazing show. Also you should see when they did a tribute show after their drummer Taylor Hawkins died. Watch when they bring on Taylor’s son to play drums.
Bring tissues.
Yup Dave can definitely come to the cookout…he’s cooking some brisket 😂😂😂
There's a Nirvana song that presages Foo Fighters. "Marigold."
You should check out a Scottish alternative rock band called Biffy Clyro. The songs A Hunger In Your Haunt & Unknown Male 01 are great introductory songs.
Other than this song, my favs would be "Best of you" and "Pretender" which I think would be great next reactions!
The video is about a couple so close, they inhabit each other’s dreams. He rescues “her” from her nightmares. The big hand thing is because of a medical condition the director had where his hands would swell when he had a fever.
Foo Fighters were notorious in their early years for goofy music videos, but the songs (especially this one) are usually much deeper than the silliness of the visuals. Also, as for drummers leaving/getting fired, I think it basically boiled down to Dave (being one of the best drummers ever) wanting it done a certain way and getting frustrated when it wasn't. Luckily, he found Taylor (RIP). Pat left because he was tired of touring, but came back later. He also played guitar in live shows with Nirvana.
Roswell Records is the Foo Fighters own label. They licensed it to Capitol Records.
This is one of the best songs ever!
Silversun pickups has a song called well thought out twinkles which has always given me the same vibe, drum wise as Everlong. It’s prob my fav Silversun pickups song.
Saw them in concert 23 years ago. Met Dave and the late Taylor Hawkins.
I love your research parts!
On a side note, Veruca Salt is worth checking out.
Live at Wembley in 2008 is amazing
Awesome reaction!! I love this band, Dave is such a talented man.
And from what I hear, he is down to earth.
I'm rooted in 50s rock r&b, and 70s singer songwriters, and videos aren't my thing. The main thing I like us Dave Grohl's voice. There's like this "mellow like Jackson Browne" but even while rock shouting is somehow soothing. Like his interviews, etc.
Dave Grohl is probably one of the nicest, happy-go-lucky guys in the business. As a result, he makes friends everywhere he goes and has done a TON of collabs.
- played drums on a Queen of the Stone Age album (check out No One Knows by them)
- played drums for an album called "Probot" in which he wrote songs and played drums for several of his metal and hardcore punk idols. (Including Lemmy from Motorhead)
- formed a supergroup called Them Crooked Vultures with John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin and Josh Hommes from Queens of the Stone Age. Fun album.
Saw them at Reading festival. Amazing.
Everlong is a great song. There's an acoustic version that has a different vibe and that I actually prefer over the album version.
Foo Fighters latest album reflects the grief Dave had from the death of Taylor Hawkins and also Dave’s mother. H.E.R. joined them on stage on SNL to perform one of the songs from the album.
Great song
The acoustic version is ah-mazing!!
Hey dude, if you get a chance you should check out some of their live stuff. As great as their studio stuff is, it's a poor representation of how great this band is.
here are a couple of great songs to continue with:
- the pretender
- best of you
- come alive
- my hero
- monkey wrench
Dave Grohl said he learned a lot about songwriting from Nirvana's Kurt Cobain... he wanted to keep the same aesthetic w/ the Foo Fighters (basic guitar, bass, drums, vocals) even though the 2 bands didn't sound alike. Grohl wrote songs on his own while Nirvana was active and demoed them before the tragic suicide of Kurt Cobain in 1994... There was no way Nirvana would continue without Kurt.
Dave Grohl got offers to play drums for Tom Petty, but decided to focus on a new band w/ his new batch of songs... He played all the instruments on the first Foo Fighters album... He impulsively put the name 'Foo Fighters' on the tape (It was a slang for a U.F.O.)... Grohl was fascinated w/ U.F.O. and alien sightings and formed his own imprint Roswell Records that signed Foo Fighters w/ Capitol Records at the time.
Grohl needed a band to play the songs live, so he enlisted Pat Smear (guitar) who was Nirvana's touring guitarist... He saw a band named Sunny Day Real Estate play live and hired the 2 members - Nate Mendel (bass) and William Goldsmith (drums)... as Sunny Day Real Estate was breaking up after their tour... In 1995, Foo Fighters began touring small clubs in N. America as the debut album dropped and was able to get radio airplay for the single 'This is a call'... MTV soon put Foo Fighters on airplay w/ the singles "I'll stick around"... 'Big me'... and the record sold platinum... Foo Fighters also refused to play any Nirvana songs live in concert, but the band was a hit in the UK and Europe and were bigger there than in America.
Going into 2nd album 'The color and the shape'... Dave Grohl got divorced and became romantically involved w/ Louise Post (singer/ guitarist of Veruca Salt) who inspired the single 'Everlong'... Grohl was unhappy w/ drummer William Goldsmith's studio performances and decided to re-record all the drums... When Goldsmith found out, he quit the band. Nate Mendel would later want to leave as well to rejoin a reunited Sunny Day Real Estate, but decided to stay w/ the Foo Fighters... Released in 1997, 'The color and the shape' became another platinum success... Taylor Hawkins (drums) joined the band and appeared in the music videos (He had been a touring drummer for singer Alanis Morissette until 1997) ... Pat Smear (guitar) grew weary of touring and left the band in 1997.
Foo Fighters recorded their 3rd album 'There is nothing left to lose' in 1999 as a 3-piece band... Chris Shiflett (guitar) joined the band and did the tour... the band scored a major hit 'Learn to fly'.
However, when the band recorded their 4th album in 2001, it didn't sound good... a frustrated Dave Grohl put the Foo Fighters on hiatus and toured playing drums for Queens of the Stone Age... In 2002, Grohl was re-energized and attempted to re-record the same album 'One by one' w/ the Foo Fighters (w/ Mendel, Hawkins and Shiflett) and it sounded much better... It became another platinum success in 2002... Inspired by the 1975 double album 'Physical graffiti' by Led Zeppelin, Foo Fighters recorded a double album in 2005 - 'In your honor'... which had both heavy rock and acoustic songs like Led Zeppelin. In 2006, a live acoustic set was released as 'Skin and bones'.
In 2007, Foo Fighters' next album 'Echoes, silence, patience & grace' was another huge success w/ both heavy rock and acoustic songs, scoring the hit 'The Pretender'...Pat Smear (guitar) rejoined Foo Fighters and did the tour w/ Rami Jaffee (keyboards) ... In 2008, Foo Fighters sold out 2 nights at London's Wembley Stadium and invited Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page (guitar) and John Paul Jones (bass) onstage - it was released as the live DVD 'Live at Wembley stadium' ... Foo Fighters recorded their 2011 album 'Wasting light' w/ producer Butch Vig (who produced Nirvana's 'Nevermind' album in 1991) and it charted at #1 in the US (Former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic also played as a guest on it)and they released a career retrospective DVD 'Back and forth' the same year ... It was followed by the album 'Sonic Highways' in 2014... Their next album 'Concrete and gold' made #1 in the US and UK in 2017.
In 2021, Foo Fighters wanted a record that emulated the sound of late 70's 'power pop' bands and artists like The Knack, The Cars, Blondie, David Bowie, etc... the album 'Medicine at midnight' was the result and made #3 in the US, #1 in the UK... as they celebrated Foo Fighters' 25th anniversary on tour... Tragically, the tour ended in 2022 when Taylor Hawkins (drums) was found dead in a hotel in Colombia before a concert @ age 50 from cardiac arrest... Hawkins had a history of drug abuse, but the news came as a shock. Foo Fighters canceled their entire tour.
Taylor Hawkins was honored by the Foo Fighters w/ 2022 concerts that celebrated his music and influences - he was honored by iconic drummers like Stewart Copeland (The Police), Roger Taylor (Queen) and Lars Ulrich (Metallica) amongst others...
In 2023, Dave Grohl announced a new Foo Fighters album 'But here we are'... and announced the addition of veteran drummer Josh Freese to Foo Fighters for the tour.
Foo Fighters are like AC/DC in that they have so many great songs, I'd say 10-15 are bangers!
Nirvana’s early work was heavily punk inspired and even new foo fighters tracks carry that punk influence.

You should read "the storyteller" by Dave Grohl
@ 10:58 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yes! Pat Smear!
Please react to The Pretender and Best of You soon.
The '90's and Gen X are the result of molly, shrooms, reefer, alcoholism, heroine, lack of parental involvement & nihilism. Many of the best musicians of the time died due to heroine over doses sadly.
Dave Grohl started out as a punk rocker before he moved into grunge
RIP Taylor Hawkins. Another artist gone to soon.
Watching the video distracts from appreciating the song. I prefer reactions to lyric videos.
I kind of agree, unless it's a live performance video.
FUNky FACT: The band name was supposed to be "Food Fighters" but after a food fight broke out in their hotel over the naming of the band, and then paying for all the damages incurred, they could only afford to pay for 11 characters, not 12, so they DROPPED the "d" in their official name registration. 😝
Except Dave has explained he quickly picked the name when he recorded the tapes as a solo artist after the name given to UFOs during WWII. He didn’t expect the band to last as long as it has or he would have put more thought into it.
Never heard of that. It's not what Dave said.
Love the song hate this video. Find 2008 version at Wembley Stadium.
video is a distraction.
your intro is very, very, very long, it ruins the video, you can't have a 5 minute intro if it's a reaction to a song
SID VICIOUS??? YOU HAVE NO CLUE, DOYOU ACTUALLY MAKE THIS SHIT UP AS YOU GO ALONG TO MAKE PEOPLE THINK YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT, ABOUT HIS LOVE FOR ONE OF THE MEMBERS OF THE BAND VERUCA SALT. I WAS ENGINEER ON THERE 1ST 2 ALBUMS.
I think he's just talking about the visuals with Dave's hair in the acted out video, thought Dave Grohl is a huge punk fan, and his guitarist Pat Smear, also in the video, was in the early Los Angeles punk band The Germs .
