I don't think it mattered either way. The way the game was being played at the time of the onsides kick, the Lions were still going to behind the eight-ball. 3 and out on bad play calls on the Lions first possession and then spotting a 14 point lead is what doomed them. I knew after the Lions first 2 possessions that they weren't going to win this game. The defense was not prepared for this type of offense they faced today, and that's on the defensive coach!!!! Hard to believe that you can lose scoring 42 points with a 494 yard, 5 TD performance by Goff. The onside kick at 12 minutes left was classic Dan Campbell, but might have tipped the balance today. Josh Allen's legs and arm also oozed perfection.
Very true... We lost the 49ers game on gambling, no doubt!!! Onsides kick recovery this year with the new alignment rules is under 5% successful!!! Bad call, and it cost them the game in the end as the Bills guy grabbed the ball and ran it to the 3-yard line. Very demoralizing and very bad call!!!

They definitely do have a super bowl winning team when healthy... But it's the coach's responsibility do everything possible to keep the players as healthy as possible towards the end of the season when it counts. There's a reason why he doesn't use injuries as an excuse for losing because he knows it is ultimately his responsibility to minimize the potential for injury especially during the regular season.. it is all on him it is his fault that they came out of the gate sprinting in this long distance race that is called an NFL season....

The Lions Offense was MIA 1st Qtr...and with battered D facing Josh Allen I wasn't surprised with Buffalo Scoring almost at will. Good to see Lions fight till end but that 1st Qtr was terrible
As a Bills fan since the late 60’s, I’d love to see them get to the Super Bowl and actually win one. Of course, the D needs to get its act together. Too porous and too soft in coverage. If they don’t make it, I hope it’s Detroit.
Lifelong many-decades Bills fan. Happy that Dan Campbell gave proper respect to the Bills and their effort -- and we have TONS of respect for him as a coach (I'd be happy to have him coach my team any day). Stand-up guy who has built a WINNER in Detroit for many years to come. My only slight criticism is thathe has NOTHING to hang his head about. He did NOT "fail to have his team ready to play," and he did NOT "fail to have his team match the Bills' intensity." BOTH teams played hard and great. It was a close game all the way. In thje end, somebidy wins and somebody loses ... yet it was merely a 6 point diference. NO head-hanging allowed !!!!!
Packer fan here. Dan Campbell makes me wanna run through a wall. IF I played for him, I'd give everything I had. Lions got a real one. They seem destined for a SB under this guy.
Love how people want to fire him over one play in a 12-2 season and coming off a 12-5 season. They are having a record breaking season. Shows the real fans
I feel like every good team needs a come down to earth game. When you rack up big winning streaks everyone tends to get complacent, even with narrow wins. I think this is a good reminder for the Lions that they cant half ass it against really good teams. They need to be on it 100%. And I think this lesson will propel them to the Super Bowl.
Sean McDermott 100% great coach. Dan Campbell is mid as fuck always has been. He’s lucky he has a great GM and ownership group. I’d fire him after this year if they can and go get a real coach who doesnt gamble week in and week out.
Yeah man i get where your coming from but #17 was just insane in that game and the Bills defense played way to lose towards the end. He took a risk it just didn’t pay off..
7%. That’s the percentage of successful onside kicks this season. Going off of ‘feels’ when it comes to situational football was unnecessary. Especially given the results of the failed attempt was a gimme touchdown the Lions could ill afford to give up.
As much as the fans are giving shit to the bills defense for giving up that many points, they played way to lose towards the end and let Detroit climb back in it. But this team is really good though..
As a Bills fan, i love Dan Campbell as a coach he has done such a good job. Nothing but love for my brothers and sisters across the lakes if its not us, i hope it's you raising the Lombardi.
Couple things. Bills fan here. Coach needs to do better. He needs to dial back his “always go for it” by about 20%. His decisions are just reckless and it will cost him in the playoffs. The injury bug has bitten the Bills badly the past couple years on our defense and it is a lot to overcome. Campbell hasn’t been there long enough to add extreme depth his defense. Asking 2nd and third sting players to stop Josh Allen is simply too much for a young coach. The Bills only really stopped them once in the first quarter and that may have decided the game. Amazingly the run game was ineffective but they adjusted quickly. Give the Lions back some of their defensive players and this would most likely have been a very different game. I am still hopeful for a Bills v Lions Super Bowl. Get healthy Detroit and for Gods sake dial back the reckless decision making a few notches.
I love that he justifies his onside kick by saying ‘I thought we were gonna get that ball.’ That’s so absurd and I love it. I’m sure they have an analytics team that brought them to that conclusion and Dan doesn’t want to expound upon his actual reasoning so he doesn’t give the enemies any advice.

Well I was wrong, my bills rose to the occasion in Detroit. It's like you guys read these comments. Because Ed oliver was a stud today. I've always liked the guy but lately it seems like he's been taking it easy. Everybody played they're buts off today. Nice going bills. Your awesome. I'm worried about our kicker missing a 24 yarder inside a covered stadium. That cannot happen in the playoffs. You should be on sidelines keeping loose. Whatever it takes We need to try and make superman job easier If he has that 2 score lead then we're in good shape.
If he did not do the onside kick the game could have at least got tied. He put them in a hole. But overall the Bills played with more desperation today. The bills played KC like that and beat them.
That's a ridiculous notion. The Lions D hadn't been stopping the Bills hardly at all. So, they kick it deep and then the Bills take four or five minutes to go down the field and score a TD and go up again by 17 and then the Lions are still down the same 17 but there are four or five fewer minutes to come back. Yeah, the Bills scored but it only took nine seconds and then the Lions went right down the field and scored again. So, the Lions were down by 10 with 12 minutes to go and they were down by 10 with 8 mins and 2 sec to go and both teams scored a TD in between. if the Lions had kicked it deep and the Bills just got a few first downs and punted the ball back to the Lions it would have been the same thing, Lions down by 10 with 8 or 9 minutes to go.
Even if he took the responsibility for the lost it still a lost! What the hell does that do? He gonna fuck them( lions) in the playoffs making call like that. What a moron
The Lions' first onside was a 50/50 crapshoot, because if they didn't do it, the Bills still would've gotten a touchdown AND ate up like 5 or 6 minutes up from the clock. If the Bills are gonna get a touchdown, better let them do it fast so you have time to mount a comeback (which had a better chance of happening as it did than if they kicked it to the Bills instead)
@@dave2059?It's a valid notion, as well as your reasoning against it. However, I believe the OP's point was that a team attempting a normal kick to pin the opposing team deep gives them more work to score, as opposed to attempting an onside kick with roughly a 5.6% chance of recovering it. Not to mention, the kicking team still has all three timeouts left with 12 minutes left of regulation.
The 1st few minutes of the game spoke volumes. Detroit 3 & out. Bills down the field for a score. I considered doing a bit more work around the house right then. We had a few uncharacteristic dropped passes; a bad pass & especially the missed long passes that would have been game changing made a huge difference. The defense made some great plays, but not consistently, & the same error kept happening over & over, with our defense parted to the side like the Red Sea, & Allen running up the middle. We achieved no sacks, as we had in the many games we've won & didn't have the blocked passes near the quarterback & receivers. We need a solution for the major matchups we are losing. It was a difficult one to take; right on.
Lmfao y’all lions fans are funny as fuck. Y’all ain’t beating nobody in the playoffs y’all staying home after the first home lmao clown. Fly eagles fly 🦅
Dan, nobody believes you that its on you and you didn't have the guys ready. We appreciate you not using the injuries as an excuse. It shows your character and we love it. But everybody who watches football knows its the injuries. And frankly we are fucking amazed you and Glenn have kept this train going with the amount of injuries the team has sustained. Tonight was a loss but I was super encouraged seeing how you guys battled tonight. How Goff and the offense stepped up in a shootout. As strange as it may sound, this loss makes me even more confident in this team. Dealing with this extreme adversity the amount of injuries has caused is going to make this team incredibly dangerous when those injuries quit happening and players get healthy. Super excited about the rest of this season and the years to come. As a life long Lions fan, I thank you, Brad, Sheila, and the entire team and organization for what you've done with this football team.
Injuries will never quit happening they always happen, it's NFL football... He knows not to use injuries as an excuse because it's an integral part of the game and it's the coach's responsibility to be able to manage injuries when they happen not if they happen.... There are plenty of things that coaches can do to stay ahead of inevitable injuries....
You are right about him learning from the adversity caused by the injuries but it won't be this season... An NFL season is a long distance race, this 'adversity' is because he sprinted out of the gate early in the race, and now it's time for the most important part of the race and he's all out of gas. The true adversity of all this is the fact that he has to learn it the hard way and make the adjustment next season

Just like with the second half of the Packers game, the other team's offense had gotten nearly anything they wanted for most of the game, had to try to keep it in the hands of the offense. Didn't work in the end.
It wasn’t that bad of a call. He wanted to prevent the bills from chewing up the clock. It obviously didn’t work out
I don't think it mattered either way. They should have played more nickel and had Branch up on the line of scrimmage to eye spy Allen!!! This game felt planned and orchestrated on the outcome!!!!
@@harrybrass007ok Nostradamus “after two possessions I knew they would lose this game” you didn’t know shit. Just admit your team is cheeks clown. Fly Eagles Fly 🦅

it was a damn good game that showed our couches and players where improvements were needed, a valuable experience to take into the playoffs. Hope to meet the bills in this superbowl and prove what we learned last night
Inside with 12 mins left is wild.
He had no choice everyone on defense is getting injured and they couldn't stop buffalo
It’s alright, Campbell. The Lions played outstanding today! Take some rest, and be prepared for next week.
Outstanding? Their defense is straight garbage 🗑
Hard to believe that you can lose scoring 42 points with a 494 yard, 5 TD performance by Goff. The onside kick at 12 minutes left was classic Dan Campbell, but might have tipped the balance today. Josh Allen's legs and arm also oozed perfection.
Dozed perfection? Go suck him off some more
Shouldn't have done that onside kick with 12 left in the fourth dude.. keeping doing that stuff.. it'll cost you on the playoffs like last year.
Stuff like that is what has even got the Lions to the playoffs at all last year and likely this year.
@@matthewdunham5235not true at all
Very true...

The word is out on our defense. AG needs to mix in more zones or teams will find mismatches on those backup LBs. All of the damage came from RBs and TEs in the pass game.
AG can not adjust, I really lost respect for him this game. None of us are professional football coaches but we can all see the simple fact that Aaron Glenn sticking to man is what sold this game! Even the commentators knew
This guy is literally using scotch tape and gum to keep our defense together and you have the gall to say he didn't use the defense correctly lmao. You can't do anything with practice squad players and players who are not on teams currently. Such an asinine opinion.
The health D isn't even mid they need a new DC ASAP while they still have this offense.. Even with Hutchinson the D wasny very good.
@@DeathlySmileshe is 'holding the defense together with scotch tape and gum' .... Injuries happen to every team, it's inevitable. Roster depth is a huge part of NFL football. It's not coincidental when there are over 10 players on IR, it's your coaches responsibility to stay ahead of it, you need to have contingencies in place late in the season and in the postseason for injuries. It's the coach's responsibility to have more than just Scotch tape and gum to patch up whatever side of the ball is affected... Having players on IR is not unlucky whatsoever.... No excuses,no hiding facts, nothing but respect for the Lions head coach!!
Does it cost too much to mic up the questions?
Yeah, I don't understand this at all. There are billions of dollars in the NFL, a fixed number of stadiums/main conference areas (just 32 of them) and there is fantastic mic technology. There shouldn't ever be problem not hearing the questions. They should have fixed this issue years ago.
Dan Campbell is a class act.
Neither team has a defense.
Josh Allen is gonna have to score 50 points in all the rest of his games in order to keep winning. 😂😂😂
The year the Lions finally have a Superbowl caliber team and their defense has the
most injuries I have ever seen on D.

Good to see Lions fight till end but that 1st Qtr was terrible
You mean the first 3 quarters right? Y’all didn’t score real points til the 4th lol
As a Bills fan since the late 60’s, I’d love to see them get to the Super Bowl and actually win one. Of course, the D needs to get its act together. Too porous and too soft in coverage. If they don’t make it, I hope it’s Detroit.
As a Lions fan, we thank you and say likewise.

Dan Campbell and Sean McDermott are both top-quality coaches, two of the best in the game. They both know how to get the best out of their players.
Sean McDermott 100% great coach. Dan Campbell is mid as fuck always has been. He’s lucky he has a great GM and ownership group. I’d fire him after this year if they can and go get a real coach who doesnt gamble week in and week out.
@michaelmella1272 lmao ok Mr Buffalo.
Buffalo played a bad game and still toyed with Detroit . The game wasn't as close as the score.
Needs to learn how to manage a game. It’s ridiculous to go for a onsides in that situation and his final 3 minutes of clock management were laughable.
Sounds like u need to be the new coach.

On side kick?😳
They couldn’t stop the bills on defense
We all know the reason. He told the world loud and clear he does not believe in his own defense.
@@chadengels2625and Rightfully SO! 🤷🏾♂️ They’re playing with their 3rd string defensive players. Goff has to SCORE on every series or we’re done because we can’t stop the other team from scoring on US

@chadengels2625 no shit. His defense at this point is 3rd stringers. Who would actually believe in them? They weren't stopping a damn thing. He had to do something. Took a chance and it failed.

They're winners, and they were gunning for the win. I don't dislike it, but obviously it turned out terribly as the Bills scored on the next play.
If your defense couldn’t make a stop anyway… and you had a chance to get the ball back without playing defense… you wouldn’t take that chance?
Nothing but love and respect from the Mafia. Great game and great fans, Detroit
If he did not do the onside kick the game could have at least got tied. He put them in a hole. But overall the Bills played with more desperation today. The bills played KC like that and beat them.
and he took responsibility for the loss.
I'm glad they lost during the regular season.... I'm a lions fan 1000 percent. Better than them them losing in the playoffs....

He said absolutely nothing‼️ The Lions are the 49ers, all that talent in the hands of a likable coach who can't win those big games. They needed six touchdowns from Goff today with under 50 yards rushing, why they didn't talk about that❓️
