Hi everyone, here is some additional backstory detail about the shop to hopefully answer some of your questions in the comments for those of you who want dive deeper: Traffic overall came predominantly from the 'Etsy App & other Etsy Pages' category (around 70% of total traffic), if you use great thumbnail images and have high conversion rates on your listings then you will be pushed organically on Etsy and this is where most of your sales 'should' come from to be successful long term. If you look at my 'First 30 days' video you will see there was barely any traffic in the first few weeks, this is normal when your not running ads and starting to grow a shop from the ground up organically. In addition to this I didn't run any social media campaigns or make my shop name known, so I didn't use any of my (albeit small) external influence. Etsy search and Etsy Marketing and SEO were two other categories of relative medium traffic volumes but combined they didn't even equate to 25% of the traffic volumes from the 'Etsy App & other Etsy Pages'. I've done 3 videos (30 days, 60 days, and now 90 days) tracking the progress of this shop, you can see the natural progression of how a shop grows month by month when you continuously add new listings and grow in reviews and sales, you naturally get pushed more. I haven't used any external marketing at all (Mainly because I'm saving this for a future video to track it properly for you guys and show the impacts). I wouldn't say the revenue figures are anything crazy, and if I did employ an external marketing and ads strategy they would certainly be much higher, but this is not something that everyone can realistically do. Hope that helps.. there really isn't a magic answer, just sell products that people actually want, market them correctly so they get clicks, set up listings and shop correctly so you have a high conversion rate, and nurture customer reviews to help shop growth.. then keep scaling. I have worked ridiculously hard over the last 3 years on Etsy, so with that experience it is a lot easier for me now to know what works and to know how the small things make a HUGE difference to how a product is marketed and also the conversion rate of a product. Thanks for watching and also reading this detailed message :)
I've had my designs for mugs and T Shirts on Etsy now for over a year and sold absolutely NOTHING. I'm not using clipart. I've designed everything from scratch on Affinity, and have dropped my prices to £14.99 for a mug. I'll make about £1 per mug. People I know tell me they won't pay more than a fiver for a mug no matter what's on it. This was supposed to be a side hustle to help support me as I've just retired. I can't afford to pay Etsy more for advertising. I love doing all the artwork, but if my new Vampalisa T Shirt, that took over a week to design doesn't sell, I'm probably going to give up. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks for another great video. Im also in the uk. One of the things that im struggling with atm is shipping profiles, especially if im in the uk selling to the usa. UA-camrs always brush over shipping profiles and the one UA-camr that appears to have done some videos on it still doesn't actually explain it. Everyone is just blase and brushes over the subject. I think if you did a video it would be very useful and popular given the style of your videos are easy to understand and helpful compared to others
Thanks for watching and also the nice comments about my content. Sure I can explain, as I link directly to Printify they give you a standard shipping profile (dependent on the supplier your using) that is loaded into Etsy when you link the product/s to your store. However, this usually presents shipping Worldwide, sometimes at very costly postage charges. The problem with this is that your products are then shown to shoppers in countries all over the world, who may click on your product, but then see a $40 shipping costs, meaning they won't buy. This hurts the conversion rate of the products (this is really important). So, for me I only ship to countries that are local to my supplier, for the mug supplier I wanted to use, it was only UK domestic. This means fulfilment costs were low, and I can charge free shipping on all orders, massively helping my conversion rates. Does that make sense? I'd be happy to do a full vid on it if there is demand.
Hi Alfie, did you have any issues/complaints that the design is slightly different on the mock-up from Etsy comparing to the mock-up from Printify. I mean did you have to match the exact location or it it fine to be slightly off?
Yep that's a great question! The mock up can be slightly off compared to the Printify mock up, but make sure it is as close as you can possible get it because then otherwise you are selling a false representation of a product to your customers. On the printify mock up I use the guidelines and line up dots to make sure everything is in the same place each time. I then did a cross comparison for my first few listings to make sure everything was as close as it can be, there will always be slight differences, but I've not had a single complaint yet.
Thanks so much :) I just broke down my traffic and strategy on another comment so this will also be a good answer to your question which I will paste below: Traffic came predominantly from the 'Etsy App & other Etsy Pages' category, if you use great thumbnail images and have high conversion rates on your listings then you will be pushed organically on Etsy and this is where most of your sales 'Should' come from to be successful long term. This would be great if etsy didn't suspended my account for no reason 😢😢 they really break my dreams and i didn't get the chance to even defend my self ,my shop is new and they hit me with suspension when i upload my first listing ( the design wax completely hand made and it did not infringe any trademark or copyright)
You didn't factor in all the Etsy fees,. Offsite Ads fee for new shops: 15%, 6.5% transaction fee, 16p listing fee, and 4% + 20p processing fee per transaction. If Im correct you made $1.50 on an 11OZ Mug.
Hi JP, your right about the fees being charged, however I do not count a 15% offsite ads fee in my calculations as for this shop I did not run any kind of ad campaign, including external ads. In reality even when ads are used a tiny fraction of sales are through external sources where a 15% fee would be taken, and you can also easily opt out of offsite ads anyhow. I'm in the UK and the VAT taxes on Etsy fees can also be claimed back, so these are also not considered in my workings (but this will differ per country/business set up). Thanks for watching!
hey alfie, i have watched your last 3 videos or so, and i really like them, as i started my first etsy shop 2 months ago, and frankly, i need every help i can get lol, but a question about etsy youtubers that keeps bothering me is, (and i dont mea necessary that this is meant towards you, but maybe you can shed some light into this), if all these youtubers are making all these big numbers, with there etsy stores, why would they bother to make a youtube channel ? this is not meant to be in any way offensive just curiosity
Thanks so much for the support! I've got no problem giving you an open and honest answer: Initially I started the channel because my mum and friends saw what I did on Etsy and said I should really make a UA-cam channel about it because making money online is HARD and it would give people good value. I am very busy, so my time really is quite limited for the UA-cam... I've shown my UA-cam revenue in the '2024 goals' video on my channel before and it is just a few dollars a day, so it's not really for the money directly from UA-cam. That said I know there is potential for UA-cam to bring in great revenue streams into the future, which one day when I start a family will be very important (multiple streams of income), so yes I have no problem saying there is a monetary incentive also. The main thing for me at the moment however is that it connects me with you (audience). I've been able to work with 36 Etsy shops now in coaching or one off sessions, and this brings a lot of fulfilment. What I do makes my mum and family proud, and it's also something I enjoy personally.. It's hard to explain, but UA-cam is like a long term goal you're always working to get better at. I hope that makes a bit of sense :)
