Hope you still answer comments on older videos :) I would like to be able to do this step without having to "cheat" (use my hand), it is something that is also a big handicap for surfing, where one uses a similar technique to get that foot up and inline with the hands. My inability to perform this movement must be due to a tightness or weakness of some sort, do you know where? if it is in the hips, butt, quads, hamstrings? What could it be!!? ... and what exercises stretches could be done to fix this!! Thank you !
It's both weakness in the abdominal muscles and flexibility in the hips. Keep practicing low lunge, high lunge, pigeon pose, boat pose, plank and any exercises that open the hips and strengthen the abdominals.

This was extremely helpful.. I can never step forward, but I will practice this definitely.
