Unfortunately, despite Laurens dad going about it the wrong way, David did deserve the beating for getting involved and for going about it the wrong way with the situation of the bullying between Lauren and Bethany. In general terms, the right way about it would have been to ask both girls why they don't get along and why they are behaving like this, and trying to get them to see how they would feel if it was them being treated like this (being bullied), not by making rash decisions and threats, like David did, even though Lauren deserved it for doing what she did, there may have been a reason for it that Lauren could not help, such as emotional neglect or trauma, or lack of attention. Speaking to the bully, rather than bullying back, may stand a better chance in getting this answer. After David did what he did, it resulted in Laurens dad doing what he did and then a stem of wrong actions sprouted out of control.
