- What is metadata, why does it matter, and what can we do with it? Time to develop a new superpower! Please, just use it for good.

This video was shot and recorded on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Musqueam people.

At the AGO's library, the librarians also associate other metadata info to books like - mentions to works and artists in our collection, exhibition history, collections of other museums/galleries, conferences/exhibitions/biennales, donors, and art-history specific keywords and subject matter. Soooo amazing it makes my research so much richer and smoother.
Right?!
Except what you're talking about here is data and not metadata.
The main metadata you'd find in a library book is from the library's stamp to say who owns that copy of the book. You'd also find a date stamp of when the book was due to be returned. That is metadata - as would the Dewey classification number for it.
Theres a difference between metadata and microdata?
Love it, Ben! Metadata is one of those strange buzzwords right now, isn't it? Looking forward to seeing your tattoo session!
Amazing info and easy to understand! Thank you so much!
MetaData- The breaking down of a book to its smallest parts.
Yes. That's the way I understood it when it was introduced in conjunction with RDA cataloging rules and FRBR.
thanks for simplifying its meaning.
You bet!
Thank youuuuu, for explaining beyond “data about data”
Great explanation
You have a very humanistic view of meta-data.
To me, it's much like markup language that works in the general Internet.
In that context, metadata is information that marks up, or adds significant value to, some data that preexists.
Spoken like a true cataloger :-) As a Systems Librarian most of my day is either creating metadata or fixing the connections in the system that uses that metadata. Yes there is LOTS of metadata about people in their accounts. Library patrons for example.
*Winks back * You're the best. Also, now I am compelled to add a better citation for the Shakespeare books to the description for our video. I am so excited for your metadata series. -Colleen
Really good explanation
Yay for a Colleen shout out!
This meta-data thing is pretty spooky. Kind of like Einstein's belief that quantum mechanics is spooky compared to relativity.
Really helpful video, thanks man!
Glad to hear! Thanks for being here 🙂
Really helpful man, thanks video!
The video says you're welcome!
@@StacksFacts hahaha *thanks FOR THE video
nice!
peter u aligned your book with the time marker but will you be peter or what will peter look like descriptive and structure
While hastagthis was quite disappointing, learning about the Musqueam people was fun.
I got my meta cleaners primed and ready for social media. Never know when the platform wants to "extract" information from photos and videos.
That intro music so subtlety reminded me of Pinky and the Brain.
(LOOKING AT YOU LINDSEY)
It's because I like hearing your voice and seeing your face :O)
That was subtle ;)
OKAY FIIIIIIINE :P
i smell simp in here
Luke i'm not your father! stop calling me dada!!!!!!
Hmm. . . I would have to conclude based on that data that you were a regular participant in political forums and have, in fact, traveled to one or more industrial cities in America.
The metadata confirms it! :P
I... uh. I see. :P
@@StacksFacts How Meta! :P
You need a pop filter. cheap and easy. ;-)
Partnersssssssss🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why don't you text Steve back?
So, what happened with Steve?
Well ya know, love is a fickle thing so now Steve and i date at a distance, and only one of us knows it.
@@StacksFacts Been there.
Probably still there now to be honest.
Also I'd just like to thank you for your videos. I'm a studying library student and used your videos to help make my decision on what to study. I've also told some of my teachers about you, just incase you were unsure how weird of a place the internet is, some librarian teachers in Melbourne, Australia have now watched you talk about tattoos and metadata and know about your very real relationship with Steve.
Is this where Facebook got the name “meta” from?
Man actually added the Grinder logo

FINALLY
@@StacksFacts Lol, only took 4 years
Yeah... What is the cost of a free email account?
Time you would spend in order to make one... 😄
@Jackie Schmidt Basically your privacy
Peter those ears are massive. No sound evades you.
What's up with Steve? lol
So if I worked for Robins AFB for 17 years and now I'm on a permanent screw her by name for life? Wow that's like not automatically smart but thanks man who I don't know for helping me and God brainstorm
I love that you Judy came out with being gay.... Live your life... Love it. ❤️❤️❤️❤️Steve was weird
Dropped a major hairpin there :) Class: Librarians; Subclass Queer (Can't think of the MARC for that at the moment)
Well that was confusing and I still dont what metadata is.
Metadata can be expanded and sub divided into other metadata if done properly. Anyway I understand after I watched the video over and over. I'm slow and just trying to learn.
And that's the best any of us can do!
@@StacksFacts do what?
Try to learn!
@@StacksFacts oh yeah that's true!
its dayta not dahtuh
Yo, wtf is metadata?😢
I need is green card
Not sure why but this guy really annoys me, also its DAYTA not DATA, pronounce it right
Cool, cool cool cool.
Fun fact, more than one country in the world and everyone here says "DAR-TA" as well not Day-ta.
@@bethhunter1756 just cuz more than 1 country says dahtu doesnt make it correct, 70% of people speaking english say daytuh and oxofrd dictionary says its daytuh so...
