Another episode, and a great one at that.... yes! Only thing is, it now mean a week before the next one.... Thank you for sharing with us, and it sure looks like one could spend an entire summer explore all the small greek islands, so beautiful!! And the same good mix of sailing, engineering stuff, and everyday life.... I'm addicted....
Hey Mark & Fiona!! So sorry we missed this!! Only just found it! We have never had footage of us singing together, so we are super pleased to be included in one of your videos! Meanwhile, I've started my own channel about the new country house we purchased, and the colossal renovation job we have ahead! Just click the icon to have a look. Much love to you both & hope you come our way again some day! Maureen & Philip.
Mark @15:35. Never drop chain on top of your anchor. You run the risk of fouling the anchor which is the worst thing as it won't be able to take hold with chain wrapped around it. What that Charter yacht did was perfect. Lay the chain along the bottom just as he did..
I probably misspoke what I mean, you are right…….advice we have been given is drop the chain on the bottom and make sure you feed out some spare chain so you do not start dragging the anchor away from where you wanted it in the first place. Totally agree not to put chain on the top of the anchor…..when we hit the bottom I move just a tad away drop some anchor chain and the. I can focus on backing …..slowly …while letting the chain out. I have found if I don’t do that I risk pulling on the chain early and either dragging the anchor or spinning it out of the locker quickly…..getting better at moving back at the same rate as I am dropping chain….thanks for the advice
Good day Mark. I'm weeks behind in watching videos but I wanted to make a suggestion. I noticed when you used a mooring ball that you only used one line when attaching to the pendant. After you've picked up the pendant, route a second line through the eye of the pendant and tie it off to the opposite bow cleat. That will help keep the boat centered on the mooring ball. Just a suggestion. I've seen other boaters use this method. Enjoy the day and keep on laughing as you learn. Semper Fi.
Thank you for sharing your journeys. Good quality videos and thanks for providing us with the history of the unique small towns. Enjoy yourselves and safe sailing. Cheers from Durban, South Africa
What wonderment. Another outstanding video that, again, is even better than the previous one Mark. I appreciate all the work you and Fiona put into these. I may have to have my boat shipped to the Med to follow your lead. Thanks so much.
Great video Mark and Fiona. Good to see your videography improving with each episode along with your boat handling😜!. Loved Vathy which reminded me of Chania on Crete. Also what a beautiful spot Methana. I can see where it got it's name (Methane!!). Pity your battery went flat as I was keen to rate your berthing skills in Athens. Quick question - With so much anchor chain out when Med mooring, do they ever get tangled with others and/or caught by keels if not hard on the bottom?
Hey Hugo….we would love to have gotten to Crete but just not enough Schengen time available. Yippee they do but everyone helps and generally keeps patient as the issues are worked through. I am trying to capture on video. Chains drop pretty quick and people know to stay away from getting too close to the bows of other parked boats. Take care bud.
Just wonderful watching your “big fat Greek adventure “! Stunning scenery, fascinating ports on these small islands and always fun to hear your commentary…till next time❤️⚓️

It’s coming just trying to catch up with where we are. Once upon a time to date we will start doing videos around a whole, bunch of issues…cost, likes, dislikes, challenges, life living aboard, Fiona’s perspective, future plans etc
Down the road you might want to think about installing a head hunter sewage treatment system and they do make them small enough for boats your size and smaller and it's a big help cause that means it will treat the sewage and you can even dump into harbor cause you dumping only near Potato bowl water in other words you're not gonna be adding any pollution into the Marina
Just a tip to you from an ex seafarer on large commercial ship's. Best to keep a good distance from commercial ship's if possible. If you are too close then the commercial ship's radar may not be able to detect your motor vessel because of 1) sea clutter hiding your vessel as a target. 2) If you too close then height difference between radar on commercial ship and height of your ship may be much for commercial ship to detect you on their radar.
Yet another great video. Loved it. Feel I know a little more about Greece. Personally a little more than a mild envious of the experiences you both are having.
Love the drone footage and great narration at the beginning of the video. The only thing I would comment on is the background noise of cupboards being opened and closed all the way through it. Its a little bit distracting.
Out of interest what licences/qualifications do/did you need to get to be able to operate a vessel like yours? Also, that taverna.....reminds me of my grandmother's cooking
Beautiful food that’s for sure. Strongly in NZ there is no requirement for a licence to operate this boat. In Europe they want some form of qualification and seem happy with the NZ Boatmasters. If you are on a foreign flagged vessel…ours being NZ…they are expected to respect NZ requirements. Montenegro apparently want an ICC Licence which I do not have so that could be interesting….we shall see.
Wunderbare Videos. Was mir aufgefallen ist, dass eure Leinen hinten zum am Dock anlegen, viel zu Lang sind - hier wären kürze Leinen besser zu handeln - Gruss Bruno macht weiter so!
Ok will think about that…problem is it makes the passarelle angle much steeper. We don’t want to add anything permanent in regards this as obviously when we leave the Med we won’t need it,
Ok so they either have a float which you or the support staff pick up then pull up the lines or they have a thinner line to the dock which you pick up and walk forward raising it until you have the other end. Seemed incredibly com-located at first now it seems logical and simple…sorry I did not cover that in the video.
Love the channel) i just sailed my 12 meter Princess 388 (1991), from Imperia Italy, to Kaş Turkiye. Quite the journey) and saw a lot of places where you also was). Love the boating life, i am also a beginner.
Make sure you rudders are straight going into port then get on the controls forward and reverse and skid steer like the digger’s Mark it’s easy it will be like flying that jumbo jet lol 😂 👍✋😀
Forgot to say change into and of gear at low revs then increase throttle speed once in gear for thrust and all this can be under 5 knots Mark you will love it save that steering valve too go for it meolm8 👍✋😀
Just stunning scenery. You lucky dogs! I have a concern about your steering. Why does the system have a steering lock? What is it designed to do? What happens when you are flying down 4 - 6 metre waves (which you will at some stage coming back to NZ) and your steering "Locks"? You won't have the luxury of "turning slowly". Please look into it. Perhaps removing the sensor to stop the locking might be a good safety move? I don't know but please let us all know what the design feature is meant to achieve.
Ok so sensor removed with a new one on the way. It is there to sense hydraulic fluid passing across it between steer port and steer starboard when it should not be…so at the moment it will not sense that..effectively if there was a leaky valve and you commanded port but some hydraulic fluid was leaking Starboard the brake would not come on….fix is to engage the autopilot which immediately disconnects the steering station as it is a seperate pump. Once sensor arrives we will swap over. We are very aware of it.
Greywater describes wastewater that has been collected from a ship's galley, showers, laundries and sinks. Blackwater describes wastewater containing fecal matter and urine. did i misunderstand you at 13 mins ?
