    Going back and improving an "old friend", whether it be a sewing pattern or as with me,a musician, a piece of music, is very satisfying. Enjoy your approach to sewing. You are an artist as well as an excellent seamstress!

    I always baste things, it keeps the fabric in place better than pins. I am mostly self taught, with the inevetable disasters along the way. When I retired my plan was to go to classes to learn to sew properly. Unfortunatly the nearest college offering sewing classes is about 50 miles away and the roads are not very good. Our local college is about 15 minutes walk away but they are no longer offering any dressmaking classes despite the popularity of The Sewing Bee TV program. I am very pleased I have found your chanel as I have learnt a lot, things I would never have thought of. Thank you from the UK.

    I applaud you! Doing a few extras can put the garment a level above. As seamstresses we should try to improve as a sign of expertise. Thank you for setting a high standard for your followers. I especially love the fabric you found and used to show us the techniques.I also put cuffs and bands on like you as the seam showing is not desirable.

    Hand basting snob, that made me giggle. It would make a good hashtag. Love your work, and watching you sew. I feel like when I watch how you make a garment I am learning so much, not being talked down to, but encouraged to elevate.

    What a beautiful dress you created. Like you, I love taking the time to create beautiful garments even from simple patterns. I love that you share all your sewing details. It has helped me so much when I go to sew my garments. I also believe if we are going to sew our own, we can take just a little extra time which I believe makes a big difference to the finished garment. Thank you for your amazing tutorials. I appreciate and love to watch them.

    You are a wonderful teacher! I appreciate all of your thoughtful planning and attention to detail (both outside AND inside). Sounds very tropical there with the background noises, lol. 🦜Love the dress! What a beautiful fabric. I’ve recently purchased a fabric with floral ‘ strips’ across it interspersed with plain white strips, now I know what to do with it! Very clever. Fantastic end result! Well done, thanks so much for demonstrating.

    Beautiful job!!! Sometimes when I can't match a seam (like your centre front) I do a bit of applique using elements from the fabric scraps, to create a new pattern over the seam. Hand-basting snob, no no no! It's for the obsessive perfection stuff that I come to your channel. I've just bought Clare Shaeffer's Couture book and am getting far more into that level of detail. Slow-sewing is the way.

    Oh thank you for this, it's made me realise that I need to take the time to measure flat pattern pieces and know my torso length etc to get a better fit. I think I may get a fitting book and note down my measurements other than the standard ones. The dress looks great and it's me I will now look at as you've shown there isn't loads of gathers as a gathered skirt is not the best look on me. Thanks Karina!

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  3 роки тому +1

      The torso length is a huge one for me. I’m pretty short waisted in relation to my height and depending what height the pattern is drafted for, I find myself needing to shorten or lengthen. Once you get the hang of measuring it can be done very fast before starting :)
      Thanks for watching 😊.

    Is there a reason that you didn’t shorten the back darts to the same size as the front? Very helpful video, thank you.

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  2 роки тому

      I don’t have a bust at the back. The reason I shortened at the front is so that the tip of the dart is not at my apex.

    I don’t know or have this pattern, I would love to try it out after seeing yours.
    Would it not be possible to cut the front on the foldline and have the back with a seam at the Centre back. That way you wouldn’t have to worry about pattern matching in the front. You wouldn’t notice the back seam as much as you would with the front. 😁

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  3 роки тому +1

      I actually had to cut the front with the seam. I had no other option because the skirt pieces were also on the fold .
