  • The Growing Pavilion is an ode to the beauty and power of biobased materials. Most biobased materials are still too often perceived as just an equally good-looking and environmentally-friendly alternative to conventional materials. We find this as a weakness: why aren't biobased materials also seen as better, smarter, more original, healthier and more beautiful alternatives to what we already know? We believe that new designs and applications of those materials are required, as well as their own, recognizable and acknowledged identity.

The wooden framing is quite extensive. Are the mycelium load bearing? Are the panels heated to kill the mycelium? Beautiful design!

Is it machinable? Could it be worked with traditional carpentry skills and tools? Would it hold bolts, nails, skrews? Is it glue able? The world is already filled with work shops and factories. I know it's maybe not the PURE ethic that you're going for, but I think if you go one step at a time, you'll have more success. So, I suggest that you just grow a lot of 2x4s 1x3s 4x8 foot sheets at 1/4 inch and let it slowly cheep into traditional construction supply chains that way.

They use micillium. Some projects are bio engineering their own new strains of mushroom. Look up 'mushroom leather.
