JD has been my bass-singing hero since childhood. I live in Namibia, in Africa. After watching this video I am amazed at his personality. Not only is he an exceptional bass singer, he is a true ambassador of the Lord Jesus Christ. JD lived his life purpose fully. His sense of humor is extremely great. I will remember him for a very long time. A true legend, may his legacy remain forever.

@TheDevilishSmile: I thought @monrejeftha was referring to @budrauxkaze7791 as being the one who was not so well known, not JD.

I, too have always loved J D. I really loved all those Quartets. I’m almost 78 and remember the times in my young years when as a family we were privileged to go hear those Quartets in concerts.

@@LindaKelly-e5u Linda, I am 78 ,will be 79 in Feb. I am the oldest of 5. All 5 were born b4 I started school cause my birthdate came too late, I had to start the following year!
Mom was saved b4 she met my dad when he joined the Marines they sent him from Texas to San Diego, CA. for basic training. When he had 1 day passes, the Marines supplied a bus to go to Long Beach, CA to enjoy a day at a pier-park where he met my mom!! During the war, when he finished his basic he did not travel back home as it was too far back to Texas. So, he got aquainted with mom's young brother and the rest of her family!! Then for his advanced training, they sent him to the Camp Pendleton Marine base. They continued to send buses to that famous pier park. Dad and mom continued to meet and he became close friends with her brother. Then when the training there was done, he was sent to Midway Island in the S.W. Pascific. He still did not go home for his leave!! While on Midway for about a year b4 the war ended he proposed by mail. They were married in the LA area. He staid and they attended church on his leave and they lived with her brother b4 going to his next duty station to end his time in the Marines. With his pay he bought a car. He got saved while on leave going with her brother to a revival in LA. B4 the end of his leave, mom & dad packed up and drove to his last duty station in N. Carolina. Mom got a job in Kinston, N.C. & they had an upstairs apartment for them to live off base at. She took care of the club house. When dad was off duty he helped with the grounds and caddied.
I was concived while there so I was born on the Marine base. As soon as doctors released mom & I, since dad was already discharged; we headed straight back to California to introduce me to all our relatives!! Dad and mom began to attend church and they started leading singing worship. For the next 7 years most of us kids would be carried up or walked up on the platform to sing with mom & dad!! After the 1st 2 or 3 years in California we moved back to where dad was raised in Beaumont Texas.
We became known as the Gospel singing Dancer Family. Friend me, I can share songs from our 12 song album I made slide shows with! One of my younger sister's plays piano, and wrote 2 of the 12 songs!!

It became known worldwide, thanks to Elvis Presley. Presley was never jealous, he enjoyed hiring the best for his shows, without fear of being overshadowed. Elvis was a man who was very good at everything. An example.

I met JD, when he was with the Masters V, at the infamous, rain-delayed concert at Opryland. These were regular shows (Gospel Country) that were televised on TNN and featured different hosts.
This particular concert was hours-delayed by a torrential downpour and was hosted by Rex Allen, Jr.
Allen was livid that the taping was taking so long. He openly complained that he wasn’t being paid for this delay. He was profane and unprofessional. So much so, that James Blackwood came on stage, during the lengthy delay, and apologized for the hosts attitude and language. Later, James and Jake Hess came out and sang some songs with Jake playing acoustic guitar.
Anyway, the rain finally stopped and a restart time was announced and JD came out of the bus and was signing autographs. I said hello and shook his hand and told him a mutual acquaintance of ours said hello. JD was quick witted and unfazed by the lengthy delay.
You can see some of that concert here on YT. Sean Nielsen is singing tenor. (Not the one hosted by Porter Wagoner wherein Steve Warren is singing tenor).

Yes, and to think JD could have been one besides his mom that could have been a part of the ones that kept Elvis interested in serving The Lord, we never heard in public that Elvis would help those in need!!

He loved his Benson and hedges cigarettes. We got to see his room on the tour bus. Full of cartons. My cousin played the piano.

I met JD at the Blackwood, Stamps school of music in Waxahatchie, TX., thisl was probably the summer of 1972. He seemed to be a quiet gentleman, it was early in the morning sun coming up he had the signature sunglasses like Elvis wore, only 3 people had those glasses, the 3rd one was Col. Parker.

That was the music company he bought and took over. It was called The Stamps Baxter Music Company. We are from Beaumont and usually the whole family, 7of us would go to every concert in Houston at the convention center called 'The Battle of Songs' promoted by Steve Warren's dad!
My brother rode on a flight that JD happened to be on. My brother's daughter started crying so he got up to walk her up & down the aisle. J.D. asked to hold her to try calming her. He did! My neice has always been so proud!!

I never met him only seen him at the record tables starting way back in the 60s. My brother met him and once on a flight about 40 years ago. His 1st daughter was fussing so he got up walking the aisles. JD and the Blackwood were on the same flight. JD asked my brother to let him hold his daughter, April. Years later April got to meet him and share some time with him. I think that was after Elvis passed away!!
